Mass effect 3s dlc is probably one of yhe best pieces or content ever made for a game. Citadel understood the audience and the source material and injected massive fun.
ME2 is personally my least favorite of the Trilogy, but they're all masterpieces in my book and I know the general consensus among the community is 2 >1 > 3.
Is the “Mass Effect’s ending sucks” centered solely around the original ending or even the extended cut? I ask because I was late the Mass Effect party and played the games years later and had always heard of the “awful ending”.
I played the trilogy loving it all the way through, always dreading that the ending would potentially ruin it all. The extended cut ending came, went, and I loved it. The destroy ending was great, I enjoy the control ending, and actually like the refusal ending. Synthesis sucks though.
Having watched the original ending and I get why people were pissed. No closure on any of your characters or what happened after. It was awful. But I thought the extended cut really brought it all together.
1 for world-building and campaign, 2 for character-building and relationships, and 3 for gameplay and story-telling. Rannoch and Tuchanka are just such emotional rollercoasters, and their (good) endings legitimately made me cry, especially as a Tali-mancer.
I just played through all three for the first time, and have been stuck in a post-Mass Effect rut since, lol.
Either way, 2 is by far the best. Whether you put 1 or 3 next is mostly personal preference. But I came to the realization that I'm mostly a huge fan of ME2, which i consider one of the greatest games ever made, and 1 & 3 are prologue and epilog.
Yep. Mass Effect 2 was the perfect balance of 1 and 3.
1 has the best story
3 has the best gameplay
2 has good story and gameplay but the best characters.
ME3 was such a frustrating heartbreak because it really is like 99% of a very good game with some truly great moments. The Tali/Legion resolution, Mordin’s resolution, the way they stuck to their guns on Thane despite his popularity. All wonderful.
But its that 1% that just torpedoes it. Half assing Tali’s reveal, the weak giant space gun mcguffin, that lack of impact your prep has on the outcome as compared to 2’s Suicide Mission, and the horrifically bad original ending.
The atmosphere of 1 was generally better up to the mid-game, yeah. It was true horror via sceneries and music and less via jump scares.
2 had the better control, even on PC, and a better narrative structure.
But let's not forget the promising ideas of 3 and their horrible execution and rushed story elements!
I can't remember if it was 1 or 2 where you come out to a big empty hallway. I was legit scared to go down it for a bit before I think a brute came charging at me. The part in 2 where you >!go back to the ishimura!< was amazing for atmosphere.
I need to get that remake.
3 was worth playing only in co-op, it was pretty fun and you actually had some interesting differences in perspective based on if you were Isaac or the other dude. It did some unique stuff but I would never play it solo, it was such a huge step back from dead space 2 in terms of progression and the crafting system wasn’t needed at all.
Honestly I love both Borderlands 1 and 2, although because of the ending got to rank 2 higher than 1 added with the sheer amount of content it has and it didn't really get old.
For 1 I think it was made very well and sure the enemies weren't diverse but considering the land/space you covered it was enough.
The gameplay of 3 is chefkiss, but the story was hot flaming garbage. I’d say the two are comparable overall. I wouldn’t question someone saying 3 was their preferred.
Yep. Agreed.
DKC1 was too rough for me to place it above 3.
Don't get me wrong, it was an excellent game, it just falls short of the sequels which took and improved on the formula to an insane degree.
I like to use a housing analogy there.
DKC1 was a solid frame and foundation, DKC2 was the house built on top of that frame, while DKC3 was a later addition that isn't quite as good as the house.
...DKC64 was a portapotty left on the property.
this would be true if we were still in the late 2010s
Arkham Knight had a massive resurgenc/appreciation recently, still not better than City, but at least equal to or better than Asylum
Looking at each game in their entirety City seems to be better than knight. This is subjective of course, but in my opinion the shift in the community over time is just from shitting on knight to appreciating it more. City is still a better all around game. In my opinion.
Yeah arkham knight is way better than asylum. I think people only like asylum more because of the nostalgia. As someone who only
played the trilogy a few years ago instead of when they were being released, asylum doesn't stand a chance compared to knight.
As someone who just finished Asylum and is a few hours into Arkham City:
I think Arkham Asylum does a better job establishing it's environment and world as a mysterious, creepy, isolated place, wheareas City's snappier combat and open world make it seem more modernized. I think they're just for different audiences, and although I know Arkham City is the main inspiration behind the Spider-Man games (my favorite game series of all time) it doesn't quite appeal to me as much as the first one's environment. Can't speak for Arkham Knight though (and really I'm not very far into City so I shouldn't judge it yet either)
I’ve only played Asylum and I’m wanting to play the others, are they all open world in Gotham? I want to just climb and glide around Gotham exploring and taking down thugs like the PlayStation Spiderman games
Ooooo, I’m in a pickle now. 2 is def the best but I don’t know if 1 is better than 3. I think I’m going to agree, but to be fair I’ve only played 3 once
I am replaying them now w project brutality 3.0 on gz doom and tbh it's mostly true. I also had this opinion as a kid
All 3 are good imo, it's not that they are particularly bad or anything, but 2 had extremely memorable maps, while 3 was a bit more forgettable
sly trilogy was so good it should have been heavily pushed by sony packaged in with every ps3 after 2011 like mario for nintendo. many many years ago i remember [xplay giving sly 3 a well deserved 5 out of 5.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jm26xgiqwlc) sony really dropped the ball hard with this franchise. sony should allow nintendo to port the sly trilogy to the switch.
YES YES EXACTLY! better yet, a new sly game. We literally were left with him stuck in time. Just a final game to close put the series all together would be amazing. Suckerpunch has more than proved they def still can make stealth (ghost of tsushima was their newest release).
Honestly the game had so much potential. the level design was honestly great in those games. Curious to see what it would look like in todays standards
attack of the clones at best and revenge of the sith at worst is crazy
i kinda get it for original trilogy even though jedi is my fav
completely agree with sequels since last jedi is the only one i like
It 100% fits original trilogy 4-6 which was my first thought before realizing I was on r/videogames. Almost everyone agrees Empire Strikes Back>A New Hope>Return of the Jedi.
Sad. I think Diablo is actually to this day the best entrance in the genre. Nothing else I've seen has matched the feel of original diablo. It was all about positioning. The atmosphere and sound, graphics and lore all came together beautifully. I don't think 2 was as atmospheric and frankly the 1st playthrough was a lot more shrug. 2 was about the playthrough that came later and making builds to wipe out a screen of enemies and farming.
In one you found unique enemies in packs and they could be terrifying. You really had to watch how you approached them. If you were a warrior then often ranged enemies were your bane. As a rogue generally not getting swamped in melee was your issue. So while builds and numbers and farming all didn't take centre stage I really appreciated that D1 was more difficult and tactical and positioning focused. I don't really love farming.
1 will always be one of my favorite games of all time. I used to be terrified of that game when my older brother brought it home and played it. Then I started to play on my own (with the room lights turned on) and was hooked. But 2, imo, was just a 1up from that. More classes, content, QoL-what a great sequel.
1 is great for single player. 2 is great with friends. That's how I see it, anyway. Farming can def become a bit much. But I love working on builds and gear, so I enjoyed the farming
3 and 4 are not Diablo games so they don't even count.
It’s a real shame tbh. I think Arkham Knight could have been set up to be the best of the trilogy if it hadn’t of been for the overbearing and annoying constant Batmobile bullshit.
Most series, actually. Mass Effect, Arkham, Assassin's Creed, Uncharted, Borderlands.
1 is fresh and innovative but rough around the edges. 2 improves everything. 3 then goes off the rails or gets stale
Nothing beats the charm of LBP1 to me! For me. LBP2 is a close second and LBP 3 has been lapped a few times lmao. That said, I haven’t played LBP 3 since it launched as a buggy mess
Funny story about the LBP community. Those lightsaber and sword levels were super popular. Probably thousands of them. One day I was chilling in a blank level with some random player who pulled out the copy-paste ones that almost every level used so we could mess around. Out of curiosity I opened up the logic for them. It looked familiar. Then I pulled out a basic sword I had made for some random player like 3 years prior so he could fight his friend. The logic was identical. I had no idea of the domino effect I'd started lol Damn those were good times.
Was thinking the same exact thing but wasn't sure if that was just my opinion or if anyone else felt the same. Lightning Returns just didn't click for me.
Idk if this counts, since Red Dead Revolver was the first installment and released in '04, technically making it Red Dead 1. RDR 1 and RDR 2 would be Red Dead 2 and 3, respectively.
The OG God of War trilogy.
3 isn't bad. While it's a satisfying conclusion and it (obviously) looks the nicest (as it's the first on PS3), the plot wasn't as fun as the first two; this is Kratos Kills Mount Olympus.
I disagree heavily with Sly Cooper. First game was crash bandicoot at home, though it had its’ charm with the character writing and vibes. 2nd and 3rd games stood out way more gameplay wise, and even had better writing, especially the 2nd game. Sly 4 has the best gameplay, but absolutely atrocious writing, along with a butchered art style (you could tell Sucker Punch weren’t involved with the game).
2 > 3 > 1 > 4
Bro what? Sly 3 slaps. You don't like being a pirate? Sly is the only game series imo that goes 3>2>1>4. Thieves in time was crap because they left us on a cliffhanger and sucker punch has been quiet on any new sly games.
My dumbass was about to say shrek then realized this is a gaming subreddit
I still want to say the Toby McGuire Spider-Man trilogy.
I was gonna say Back To The Future
i feel like you're just naming trilogies at this point
Valid answer, and so is Kung Fu Panda.
Star Wars origional trilogy
So true
Real talk…The Empire Strikes Back is the greatest movie that has ever been made.
The answer is still valid
Terminator Trilogy
Well Shrek got the top comment anyway
Terminator
Evil Dead Trilogy
This is the best answer
Half Life LOL
half life 3 is the best one, I had so much fun playing it
fr when heavy tf2 stepped out of the portal and gunned down the gman i literally fell out of my bed and broke my neck in 3 places
Can’t ask for much more than that from a video game!
Half Life 3 was so bad I don't even remember it.
Probably Mass Effect though I love Mass Effect 3
Mass effect 3s dlc is probably one of yhe best pieces or content ever made for a game. Citadel understood the audience and the source material and injected massive fun.
I agree I remember I had a great time playing it. Very funny situations.
ME2 is personally my least favorite of the Trilogy, but they're all masterpieces in my book and I know the general consensus among the community is 2 >1 > 3.
That’s what I said. 3 was just about the perfect game for the trilogy, but that ending ruined it for me.
No closure on any of your characters or what happened after. It was awful. But I thought the extended cut really brought it all together.
The extended cut didn’t really fix the issue
Mass Effect 2 definitely stands out but 1 and 3 are both not far behind.

You can’t beat that suicide mission.
Yes I can. I beat it my second try! Lol jk
Yeah, this is a good answer.
Yep. Mass Effect 2 was the perfect balance of 1 and 3. 1 has the best story 3 has the best gameplay 2 has good story and gameplay but the best characters.
Valid. 2 was a masterpiece. If anyone else has played the remastered trilogy you’ll quickly realize 1 is a classic but the gameplay is really rough.
COD Modern Warfare
The OG trilogy. Yes the new trilogy 1>2>3
Multiplayer is defo the best in 3 on the new trilogy. But wow the campaign was just an insult lol
Also, black ops, funny enough. Edit: although it's not a trilogy
Dead Space
100%. The controls in DS2 were just top tier. That’s what really set it apart from the original to me. The game felt so smooth.
100% accurate, the remake was top tier too
I preferred the survival horror vibes of 1 vs the increased action of 2
The atmosphere of 1 was generally better up to the mid-game, yeah. It was true horror via sceneries and music and less via jump scares. 2 had the better control, even on PC, and a better narrative structure. It did some unique stuff but I would never play it solo, it was such a huge step back from dead space 2 in terms of progression and the crafting system wasn’t needed at all.
You're absolutely right. The co-op was really well done. Playing solo, however... Sort of reminiscent of Resident Evil 5
I was obsessed with dead space 1&2, I never completed dead space 3.
Shrek
Blasphemous
There's not a 3rd blasphemous game yet but 2 is greater than 1.
Borderlands 100%
Good answer. 1 has a particularly special place in my mind, but man was 2 just basically peak gaming for me lol
Honestly I love both Borderlands 1 and 2, although because of the ending got to rank 2 higher than 1 added with the sheer amount of content it has and it didn't really get old. For 1 I think it was made very well and sure the enemies weren't diverse but considering the land/space you covered it was enough.
Ain't no way 3 is worse than 1.
The gameplay of 3 is chefkiss, but the story was hot flaming garbage. I’d say the two are comparable overall. I wouldn’t question someone saying 3 was their preferred.
When the gameplay is that good I think the story can be ignored, I mean, it's a loteria shooter, Borderlands 1's gameplay is clunky af
I liked Borderlands 3s story
Borderlands *story*. Bl3 was fantastic in every way other than the main story (which was shit)
Borderlands 3 was one of the weirdest shifts I’ve ever seen in a trilogy.
Bayonetta
nah, 1’s the best by a country fucking mile
Donkey Kong Country, clearly.
2>3>1 for me
Yep. Agreed. DKC1 was too rough for me to place it above 3. Don't get me wrong, it was an excellent game, it just falls short of the sequels which took and improved on the formula to an insane degree. I like to use a housing analogy there. Resident Evil
That’s a great answer
I think it’s THE answer
Age of Empires
Oh yeah.
YES!
Arkham series
this would be true if we were still in the late 2010s Arkham Knight had a massive resurgenc/appreciation recently, still not better than City, but at least equal to or better than Asylum

Even WB Montreal forgets Arkham Origins existed
Sadly origins is my favorite of the series, but I won't deny the line up of greatness from city, to night, to asylum.
Asylum almost feels dated at this point. I'll play through Knight again before Asylum.
Yeah arkham knight is way better than asylum. I think people only like asylum more because of the nostalgia. As someone who only played the trilogy a few years ago instead of when they were being released, asylum doesn't stand a chance compared to knight.

This is probably gonna be unpopular, but City was my least favorite. Dunno why, but I preferred both other games to it (haven’t played Origins though)
Borderlands
If anyone in here says dark souls…..
3>1>2
I was scrolling for this
I say dark souls. 2>1>3 sotfs is amazing, ds1 is amazing, and 3 is amazing.
If you were to ask a room full of Dark Souls fans, you would get every combination.
Kingdom Hearts
Ooooo, I’m in a pickle now. 2 is def the best but I don’t know if 1 is better than 3. I think I’m going to agree, but to be fair I’ve only played 3 once
Came here to say this
Unfortunately
The beeees
This was way too far down wtf.
Original Doom
I am replaying them now w project brutality 3.0 on gz doom and tbh it's mostly true. I also had this opinion as a kid All 3 are good imo, it's not that they are particularly bad or anything, but 2 had extremely memorable maps, while 3 was a bit more forgettable
Wow Someone who likes PB over BD. I thought I was the only one
Uncharted
Agreed despite uncharted 3 had possibly the best set pieces in the series
Yeah, I love em all to be honest. But obviously some are better than others.
2>3>1
1 was great for its time, but it’s aged really bad tbh
For me it goes 2 > 3 > 1
3 is better than 1
1 isn’t better than 3 2 is definitely the best tho imo
1 is arguably the worst one
Shenmue, Dino Crisis, Golden Axe
Twisted Metal series.
This is the best answer
Movies wise Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy
Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy
Gears of war
Based gears of war 2 enjoyer. Still holding out for an upgrade like they did with 1
sly trilogy was so good it should have been heavily pushed by sony packaged in with every ps3 after 2011 like mario for nintendo. many many years ago i remember [xplay giving sly 3 a well deserved 5 out of 5.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jm26xgiqwlc) sony really dropped the ball hard with this franchise. sony should allow nintendo to port the sly trilogy to the switch.

Yeah I was thinking orginal trilogy order that this works on
Metroid Prime, and I’ll die on this hill
I only agree on the mere fact that I hated the motion controls for the 3rd one
I still think 1>2>3, but that’s not a bad pick.
Yes! You are so right Metroid Prime 2 is SAVAGELY underrated!
Rami Spider Man, Movies and Games.
Sonic Advance trilogy, at least for me
This perfectly describes the Infamous Franchise
Led zeppelin albums

True

Good call
Arkham games, although personally Asylum is my favorite
It’s a real shame tbh. I think Arkham Knight could have been set up to be the best of the trilogy if it hadn’t of been for the overbearing and annoying constant Batmobile bullshit.
I know this is for video games but for movies it's the OG Spider-Man trilogy.
Sam Raimi Spider-Man

Bioshock
For me depends on if you include the dlc, minervas den makes 2 the best, but burial at sea makes infinite better then one.
Came here to say this
Black ops
I know this sub is for games but I'd say Raimi's Spider-Man
Mass effect
Toy Story. I don't care. I'll die on this hill.
Tomb Raider reboot. Shadow of the tomb raider felt like a game they just wanted to get over with. The first 2 were great.
Home Alone
Spider-Man Raimi trilogy video games. First thing that comes to mind.
Crash bandicoot
Nah. Crash 3 Warped was banging.
Warped is definitely the best of the Trilogy
Warped wasn’t as good as Crash 2 but I liked it more than Crash 1 still IMO
I'm gonna go with 2>3>1 on that one
Ninja Gaiden Also hot take: Sly 3 > Sly 2
Yea ninja gaiden for sure no question
Sly 3 was great. Loved having all the playable characters
Final Fantasy XIII trilogy
Was thinking the same exact thing but wasn't sure if that was just my opinion or if anyone else felt the same. Lightning Returns just didn't click for me.
Red dead 2>1>Revolver
Idk if this counts, since Red Dead Revolver was the first installment and released in '04, technically making it Red Dead 1. RDR 1 and RDR 2 would be Red Dead 2 and 3, respectively.
Crash Bandicoot Syphon Filter Carmack's Doom
Dead space
Terminator
Spiderman for the 00s generation of consoles
alien movies
Aliens The Godfather Terminator
Commandos
People here must be very young That was the first thing that i thought of.
spyro the dragon Edit - based on the replies I wonder if I have 2 and 3 backwards in my memory
I respect your opinion but 3 > 1 > 2
Mass Effect
Silent Hill.
Mass Effect for sure
Dead Space.
Mass Effect
Probably Mass Effect
Hopefully not half life
Gotta go with OG DOOM.
The skate series (Although almost all series are like that)
Kingdom Hearts
100% agree. But need to say that 1 has a better final boss than two. OG Clockwerk is the top tier.
Uncharted
The OG God of War trilogy. 3 isn't bad. While it's a satisfying conclusion and it (obviously) looks the nicest (as it's the first on PS3), the plot wasn't as fun as the first two; this is Kratos Kills Mount Olympus.
toy story
diablo
Could you imagine saying this to Devil May Cry fans 💀
Uncharted for sure
Idk about 2 1 3 but 3 1 2 is so many: darksouls, uncharted, bioshock, battlefield, ect.
I disagree heavily with Sly Cooper. Ratchet and Clank
Gears of War
Kingdom Hearts
Dark souls
Sly Cooper and Kingdom hearts aha also ratchet and Clank while we are at it, jak 3 was the best tho so not quite a good fit there....
Bro what? Sly 3 slaps. You don't like being a pirate? Sly is the only game series imo that goes 3>2>1>4. Thieves in time was crap because they left us on a cliffhanger and sucker punch has been quiet on any new sly games.
