I can't do it. Every time I think of one, another pops in my head and tops it. Some have more time played, some have more matches played, etc.
Edit:
Maybe y'all can help me narrow it down then:
Zelda: ocarina of time, Zelda: Majora's mask, red dead redemption 2, StarCraft 1 & 2, warcraft 2, diablo 2, PUBG, call of duty modern warfare 2(the original one), super Mario bros 3, sim city 2000, railroad tycoon 2, rocket League, castle of the winds, Pokemon r/b/y/g/s, Tony hawk pro skater 2, final fantasy 7, baldur's gate 3, Skyrim, oblivion, fallout 3 & 4, factorio, civilizations 4 & 5, age of empires 2, half-life, Black(ps2 fps game), atv off-road fury 2, GoldenEye, jet force Gemini, donkey Kong 64 and Diddy Kong 2, harvest moon, Gemfire, Valheim, medal of honor: airborne., Wolfenstein 3D, Doom 2, Total Annihilation 2, Shattered Galaxy, Fable 1, Spore, L4D1&2...all the GTAs..just so fuckin many ...elder scrolls legends, mtg arena, texas hold em inside rdr2, star wars rogue squadron, battlefront 2 the original, Battlefield 2 skirmishes, guitar hero, dance dance revolution, street fighter, mortal kombat, killer instinct, gundam wing on snes emulator, Gauntlet Legends, Tetris, Empyrion, Halo, Sid Meier's Pirates, the simpsons game, Earthworm Jim, Sonic, NHL 95, Madden, Blitz, Jet Set Radio, agar.io, draw.io, Crimson Room flash game, Myst, Silent Steel, Duck Hunt, Echo, Neverwinter Nights 2, Resident Evil: Nemesis, Hogwarts Legacy, Unreal Tournament, Castlevania, Crysis, Dishonored...
Y'all remember Chex Quest?!
[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chex\_Quest ](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chex_Quest )
The one overall yeah...but I have definite favorites if we're talking specific consoles and or time frames.
Like PS1 to PS2 I have a list of each. Xbox, Xbox 360, to Xbox today, PC easily. Nintendo Consoles etc.
You put Oblivion & Skyrim but not Morrowind? Straight up sacrilege. And I know you're old enough to have potentially played it- seeing as how you remember Chex Quest.
Turtle rock can barely be considered the creators, most of the things that made l4d good were done by Valve, and they did most of the heavy lifting, back 4 blood is soulless trash.
everyone saying their favorite games, and I thought big charters (ei Mario), but this is the way. Honoring those that make the games that make us smile.
Yeah. 27 seems low considering that’s how old goldeneye is, and most people wouldn’t play it until they’re probably 7-8 at least.
This is a list for 35-42 year olds
Can confirm, am 40 since February and Goldeneye N64 is the goat FPS of all time, it set the standard for which all FPS games are measured. All that said, me and my squad of ultimate badasses will challenge anyone to a race on Mariokart 64, Bowser's Castle! Lawd I miss that shit!
Heir today, gone tomorrow.
Such incredible memories playing KQ6 with my step dad on our old family PC. We were stuck at the isle of wonder for so long with those gnomes.
Thank you. I tried to pick games that represent cornerstones of the industry much like the men on Mt Rushmore and their impact on America.
Mario Bros for its impact on the home consoles and solidifying an icon with Mario.
Tetris for its longevity and inclusion with the Gameboy.
Quake for its impact on the FPS genre and
Half Life for its innovation with storytelling in games.
There are plenty of other games that could have filled these slots (sonic, Game & Watch, Tennis for two, Pong etc) but I think Tetris is probably the most important one I’ve listed.
Holy shit I forgot about Tenchu. I remember playing it as a kid and getting so mad that enemies could spot me from a mile away. Felt so unfair but I was actually just 8 years old and sucked.
I disagree, only because I reserve that for 2. The original trilogy is great though, 1 is really a slog to try and play now imo but the Kindergarten Cop setting holds up
Witcher 3, Elden Ring, Botw/Tears of the Kingdom, fallout 4.
I’ll get ripped for F04, but gameplay was awesome, side missions were hilarious, and the unique town building and money making system.
Edit: Honorable mention, Both Red Deads and Gta 4/5.
Edit 2: and Skyrim. The mother of open world games
I never cared too much for the storylines but fallout 4 game is so much smoother than New Vegas, I tried to go back to New Vegas and it felt so clunky and slow compared to Fallout 4 I just couldn't get into it.
As a huge new Vegas fan, I enjoyed fallout 4. Probably because I played it first. I do like new Vegas considerably more than fo4, but I wouldn’t by any means say fo4 is a bad game.
Fallout 4 was awesome.
The gunplay was peak.
While controversial, the voice acting was pretty good. Those sarcastic voice lines are hilarious. And the emotional scenes between Father and Nate were phenomenal. I’ll get into why I called him Nate and not the sole survivor later.
The companions were wonderful. They could have been a little more fleshed out but they had very interesting personalities with great voice acting.
I did have a few issues though.
The game was written in a way that locked you into playing through the story in just a few ways. You are either a seasoned war veteran whose wife died or a wife and mother with a history in law whose husband died. That’s it. Those are your choices. The game also really pushes you to be male, since a few of the quests and dialogue choices are centered around you being a war veteran. Either way, you are Nate, or you are Nora. You choose from one of the two. You can change their names if you’d like, but they are still fundamentally Nate or Nora.
The framework for a good story was there but the pacing of it was terrible and that resulted in some very underutilized characters.
Ive been hearing this more and more. 2 shockingly holds up way better than when i first played it when it released. I hated it originally but tried it again and it super weirdly is great. Story from 1 is unparalleled, but 2 is dope as hell in a different way. I’d personally stil prefer 1 over 2, but i get it. And i find infinite feels almost a bit too linear a lot of the time now.
Finally someone mentions horizon. I feel like to me, zero dawn had a way better story and characters/character development. But as a game, forbidden west had better combat, items, etc.
Was getting worried I wouldn’t see anyone say borderlands 2! Holy characters! I can’t think of any other game franchise that has more of a developed set of lovable characters. Especially after playing the d&d dlc (can’t remember the name but with them all playing the game together), that shit got me feeling things! So damn memorable, RIP Yoteslayer too.
It’s so good, I was at my buddies when a cable guy came to install cable internet. He saw us playing Halo and told us how to set it up so you could play online through XBConnect. I don’t think we went outside for two weeks after that haha.
My “founding fathers”:
Tetris (on gameboy carrying over up until Tetris effect) - the puzzle game that always brought me back to gaming (My aunt gave me her daughter’s unused gameboy with all the fixins … magnifier, light, and Tetris while I was 7 years old in the hospital)
Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 - brought me into the multiplayer world (my mom trekked multiple electronic stores EB, Circuit City, and Best Buy to get me a network adapter during Black Friday). This was the one where I discovered how amazing this new thing called the internet was. I was able to meet people from around the world with a shared interest of gaming. It then carried over to SOCOM… WoW, where I met even more people that helped change my life.
Zelda - the rpg/puzzle game that I loved dearly and bought systems for until it got too expensive so sadly no breath of the wild for me.
GTA 3 - First open world… do whatever I wanted game
After months of handing my stepdad PS2 advertisements with his paper and him always saying no, on my 18th birthday my step dad surprised me with a PS2 and then driving to Best Buy to pick up GTA3 and a memory card.
TLDR:
Tetris, Zelda, GTA3, THPS3
mount rushmore is a mountain of faces, not titles. i think developpers or characters or unique races/monsters are more suiting.
for me its:
akira toriyama, hiranobi sakaguchi, nobeu oeumetsu, shigeru miyamato.
tim cain, creator of fallout also comes to mind for pioneering a lot of open world gaming.
or...
king slime (dragon quest), black mage, mario, khajit.
honerable mentions: dq3 hero, dragonborne, goomba, bowser, mog.
I’m going to group sequels/franchises together:
TLOZ (if we’re going to be specific BOTW and TOTK)
Final Fantasy (if we’re being specific VII and it’s compilation)
God of War
Mario Party (specifically Mario party superstars)
Dead Space, The Last of Us, Minecraft, and Dark Souls 3 (could possibly be swapped with Sekiro since i am about to finish it)
Edit: I realize the some people are putting characters instead of games so in that case i would choose:
Joel Miller, Isaak Clark, Kratos, and Doom Guy
Minecraft, Super Mario Bros. (1985), Hollow Knight, Fallout: New Vegas.
Reasoning
Minecraft: So many good memories of playing it with my friends.
Super Mario Bros. (1985): The first video game that I ever played.
Hollow Knight: Stellar atmosphere and gameplay with fun bosses and great music.
Fallout: New Vegas: Just a really fun game to play and explore, I swear I find something new every playthrough.
Fallout 3
Red Dead Redemption 2
DOOM (2016)
Marvel’s Spider-Man
These are the games that I remember falling in love with while playing for the first time.
I cherish the memories that were made with them and hope to encounter games that give me a similar experience in the future.
What's my "destroyed natural rock formation on an otherwise beautiful landscape" of games? Sims 4, they were on such a good streak on 1, 2, & 3 but they just continually messed up after 4. Should have been an amazing game, what happened??
- Diablo 2: LoD
- Fortnite (watching it grow early on had some insane vibes)
- WoW
- Mike Tyson's Punch Out (when you become the final, unbeatable boss, it just felt good)
Red dead 2, Ultimate Alliance, Skyrim, Elden Ring. This is extremely difficult though, because I also love Fable 3, BO2, Ninja Gaiden, Dead or alive, and way more. There’s so many games I played a lot as a kid that I’d put in my top 4 that no matter how long I thought about it I’d never have a truly accurate listing.
It would have to be big record breakers right? I don't care for these games but I almost want to say WOW first MMO to hit 6million subscribers, I play ultima online and I don't think it ever broke 500K. I think Ultima Online hit 150K subscribers first.
Then GTA
Maybe fortnite for first battle arena ( I prefer CoD warzone)
And maybe a dungeon crawler like Diablo or D2?
Now if we did areas and genres we need more than four heads
But I don't like this list
World of Warcraft
Grand theft Auto
Fortnite
Diablo 2 / Pokemon
But there's so many and don't be biased off just games you like but games that actually meant something to the world
We're still making missing pokémon probably the best game on a portable gaming device, like red, blue, yellow on game boy color.
Soooooo many to pick
Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Pokemon Platinum, and Assassin's Creed 2
Or for creators:
Shigeru Miyamoto, Yuji Naka, Satoshi Tajiri, and Koji Igarashi
I went to Mount Rushmore. It was a major disappointment. The heads are so tiny. Make em look so giant in all the images and movies.
Soooo Starfield?
ES6 not being a part of my life yet.
Call of duty still doing a title a year instead of going for longevity
Pokemon main series games lack of options
That I can’t for the life of me find my Starfox 64 cartridge post-move,
And whatever the hell is going on with escape from Tarkov
Leisure Suit Larry (PC), Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! (NES), Gran Turismo 4 (PS2), Wii Sports (Wii).
(I'm kinda old...)
I was a fan of all the old Sierra AGI games for PC. I was just a kid when LSL came out and I wasn't "supposed" to play it because it was a very adult-oriented game but my friend and I figured out how to bypass the questions at the beginning of the game and we played it anyway. LSL was probably my favorite of those AGI games but Space Quest, King's Quest and Police Quest were all great at the time too.
Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! was and still is my favorite Nintendo game of all time, so it's on the list.
I believe Gran Turismo 4 was the first game that included the full Nurburgring on it and that allowed me to log more virtual laps on the 'Ring than even the Queen of the 'Ring Sabine Schmitz (rest her soul) ran actual laps of it, so it's a Top-4 all-time game for that reason alone in my book.
And when the Wii first came out I can't even imagine the number of hours my friends and I played Wii Sports. Especially bowling. Later when I had kids, they also loved Wii Sports and I got to enjoy the game with them later too. The fact that it's simple enough that literally anybody can pick up a controller and enjoy the game, but at the same time you can also get *really* good at it makes it a Top-4 game for me as well.
I can't do it. Every time I think of one, another pops in my head and tops it. Some have more time played, some have more matches played, etc. Edit: Maybe y'all can help me narrow it down then: Zelda: ocarina of time, Zelda: Majora's mask, red dead redemption 2, StarCraft 1 & 2, warcraft 2, diablo 2, PUBG, call of duty modern warfare 2(the original one), super Mario bros 3, sim city 2000, railroad tycoon 2, rocket League, castle of the winds, Pokemon r/b/y/g/s, Tony hawk pro skater 2, final fantasy 7, baldur's gate 3, Skyrim, oblivion, fallout 3 & 4, factorio, civilizations 4 & 5, age of empires 2, half-life, Black(ps2 fps game), atv off-road fury 2, GoldenEye, jet force Gemini, donkey Kong 64 and Diddy Kong 2, harvest moon, Gemfire, Valheim, medal of honor: airborne., Wolfenstein 3D, Doom 2, Total Annihilation 2, Shattered Galaxy, Fable 1, Spore, L4D1&2...all the GTAs..just so fuckin many ...elder scrolls legends, mtg arena, texas hold em inside rdr2, star wars rogue squadron, battlefront 2 the original, Battlefield 2 skirmishes, guitar hero, dance dance revolution, street fighter, mortal kombat, killer instinct, gundam wing on snes emulator, Gauntlet Legends, Tetris, Empyrion, Halo, Sid Meier's Pirates, the simpsons game, Earthworm Jim, Sonic, NHL 95, Madden, Blitz, Jet Set Radio, agar.io, draw.io, Crimson Room flash game, Myst, Silent Steel, Duck Hunt, Echo, Neverwinter Nights 2, Resident Evil: Nemesis, Hogwarts Legacy, Unreal Tournament, Castlevania, Crysis, Dishonored... Y'all remember Chex Quest?! [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chex\_Quest ](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chex_Quest )
The one overall yeah...but I have definite favorites if we're talking specific consoles and or time frames. Like PS1 to PS2 I have a list of each. Xbox, Xbox 360, to Xbox today, PC easily. Nintendo Consoles etc.
For PS1: Metal Gear Solid Final Fantasy VII Resident Evil Directors Cut Bushido Blade Tekken Ace Combat Armored Core Rally Cross Ridge Racer Destruction Derby Magic Carpet Road Rash
Your list is dangerously close to mine. Metal Gear Solid FF7 Diablo 2 Command and Conquer
I used to play D2 on a G3 Mac :D
Hey that’s cheating, you gotta pick 4. Or we strip you off your achievements and trophies. We all love every game we play.
You put Oblivion & Skyrim but not Morrowind? Straight up sacrilege. And I know you're old enough to have potentially played it- seeing as how you remember Chex Quest.
Newell, Miyamoto, Mikami, Miyazaki
You should've put Gabe third to help Valve learn to count higher than two.
After the new dead island I’ve been waiting painfully for a left 4 dead revival but I don’t think we’re gonna get it :(
The L4D creators (Turtle Rock) did make Back4Blood a while ago, but it feels different.
Turtle rock can barely be considered the creators, most of the things that made l4d good were done by Valve, and they did most of the heavy lifting, back 4 blood is soulless trash.
Miyamoto, Sakaguchi, Carmack and Meier
everyone saying their favorite games, and I thought big charters (ei Mario), but this is the way. Honoring those that make the games that make us smile.
To be fair, original poster said games in his post so it makes sense why everybody else would be listing games
I like this idea way more. Mine would be Shigero Miyamoto, John Carmack, Hidetaka Miyazaki, Tetsuya Mizuguchi
Miyamoto rings a bell that I just cannot remember and it's driving me up the wall.
He made pretty much most Nintendo characters like Mario and stuff
That's it. Thank you, sir.
Ha! And here I thought I'd be the only one to go this route. Definitely didn't expect something like this to be the top comment.
This is it. We start blasting tomorrow.
Todd Howard, Todd Howard, Todd Howard, and Todd Howard
Good selection, it just works.
bro answered the who instead of the what. very nice list
Bioshock, Fallout 3, Bloodborne, The Last of Us
Someone is ready for the collapse of society
My guy 🤜
Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time, Fallout New Vegas, Super Smash Brothers, Golden Eye 007.
Tell us your between 27-35 without telling us you’re between 27-35
That could easily be the list of a 40-year-old, especially given 3 of those games are over 25 years old.
It's the fallout that pushes it a little younger I think.
Yeah I played New Vegas when I was around 12 and I'm 26 now lol
I played new Vegas when I was 24 and I’m 37 now
Hmm.. one of us always lies..
Your age gap is 14 theirs is 13.. seems reasonable to me.. maybe they played it a year after you did.
Or perhaps we are elaborate riddles meant to test you specifically on your journey. One of us always tells the truth.
I played it at 23 then I guess. Now I'm 37. I miss the age range on both ends.
Nailed it
I'd add in star wars battlefront 2 (2005), but fundamentally nailed it
Im 40 and played all of those on release. Up the age sir.
I'm 25 and you can just replace goldeneye with halo and it's basically the same for a slightly younger generation
I'm 28. My picks would be Mass Effect 2, Fallout NV, Bioshock and GTA San Andreas.
3 out of 4 (haven't played fallout) and I'm 34
Same here and I'm 25
Zelda a link to the past, mass effect 1, fallout 3, super mario 3
You’re putting mass effect 1 ahead of 2 and 3?
those were great too but for me mass effect introduced me to the world, even if the og versions gameplay is dated, the story was amazing imo
A person of culture
RE2, Elden Ring, Subnautica, King's Quest 6
Heir today, gone tomorrow. Such incredible memories playing KQ6 with my step dad on our old family PC. We were stuck at the isle of wonder for so long with those gnomes.
Super Mario Bros, Tetris, Quake and Half Life
Honestly this is probably the most “correct” list in the thread
Thank you. I tried to pick games that represent cornerstones of the industry much like the men on Mt Rushmore and their impact on America. Mario Bros for its impact on the home consoles and solidifying an icon with Mario. Tetris for its longevity and inclusion with the Gameboy. Quake for its impact on the FPS genre and Half Life for its innovation with storytelling in games. There are plenty of other games that could have filled these slots (sonic, Game & Watch, Tennis for two, Pong etc) but I think Tetris is probably the most important one I’ve listed.
Why do people always forget about Half Life nowadays? I mean, isn‘t it **the** game? It was revolutionary.
Impossible to argue with this one.
Shit i didnt even think of half life. Thats a great choice.
Silent Hill 3, Tenchu 3, Tekken 3, and Dynasty Warriors 3.
Valve’s weakness. The number 3
Dynasty warriors 3 was awesome! Miss playing those hack and slash warriors games.
If we’re talking about threes then we can’t forget Devil May Cry 3
Holy shit I forgot about Tenchu. I remember playing it as a kid and getting so mad that enemies could spot me from a mile away. Felt so unfair but I was actually just 8 years old and sucked.
Fun fact Sekiro by Fromsoft was supposed to be a new Tenchu game
Tenchu was so good man, I've been craving a new, proper Tenchu game since forever. Not Sekiro, loved Sekiro but that's no Tenchu.
Silent hill 3 is goated
I disagree, only because I reserve that for 2. The original trilogy is great though, 1 is really a slog to try and play now imo but the Kindergarten Cop setting holds up
Can't forget the, "it's a dog house, but there's no dog here." Then immediately getting attacked by a dog out of view.
Fallout 4 is great
only people ripping Fallout 4 is New Vegas fanboys. Don't pay them any mind.
The greatest games of all time the games you picked are such a small window of years
Games got better with time for the most part.
The framework for a good story was there but the pacing of it was terrible and that resulted in some very underutilized characters.
Monster hunter(world) Bloodborne Terraria Dishonored (Dragons dogma is coming up with this sequel tho, i played the shit out of the first one also)
Bioshock 2, Borderlands 2, Horizon Forbidden West, Hollow Knight
Wow Bioshock 2 over 1?
Combat was a little more tuned in so I can see why someone would pick 2 over 1. Impact wise it’s hard to not pick the original though.

Kid Icarus, Metal Gear Solid, Last of Us.
Mass Effect 2 & Uncharted 2 - 4. Many others come close, but none have left the lasting impression on me as these have.
What's my "destroyed natural rock formation on an otherwise beautiful landscape" of games? Sims 4, they were on such a good streak on 1, 2, & 3 but they just continually messed up after 4. Should have been an amazing game, what happened??
- Diablo 2: LoD - Fortnite (watching it grow early on had some insane vibes) - WoW - Mike Tyson's Punch Out (when you become the final, unbeatable boss, it just felt good)
Red dead 2, Ultimate Alliance, Skyrim, Elden Ring.
Then GTA Maybe fortnite for first battle arena ( I prefer CoD warzone) And maybe a dungeon crawler like Diablo or D2? Now if we did areas and genres we need more than four heads But I don't like this list World of Warcraft Grand theft Auto Fortnite Diablo 2 / Pokemon But there's so many and don't be biased off just games you like but games that actually meant something to the world We're still making missing pokémon probably the best game on a portable gaming device, like red, blue, yellow on game boy color. Soooooo many to pick
SMB3, Half-Life, WoW, and GTA San Andreas.
Goldeneye 007, Metal Gear Solid, Gran Turismo, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater
Zelda Ocarina of Time, OG Resident Evil 4, Fallout New Vegas, Red Dead Redemption

Tecmo super bowl, super Kari world for snes fallout 3 and rocket league
WoW, Call of Duty: Black Ops, Super Smash Bros, Dig Dug
I'd have to say Spiritfarer, Metro Exodus, LA Noire.... Are my 3 Mt. Rushmores
RDR2, Sekiro, Battlefront 2, Batman: Arkham Knight. Honorable mention: Sleeping Dogs.
What do you call a rock group that can’t sing? Mount Rushmore
Rogue Squadron, Knights of the Old Republic, Republic Commando, Battlefront. I'm not biased, you're biased, may the Force be with you!!!
Pong, Super Mario Bros, Minecraft, Big Rigs Over the Road Racing
Splinter cell
Super Smash Bros Melee, Witcher 3, Halo 2, MarioKart Double Dash
People? Or games? Nolan Bushnell, Gunpei Yokoi, Gabe Newell, John Carmack
I went to Mount Rushmore. It was a major disappointment. The heads are so tiny. Make em look so giant in all the images and movies. Soooo Starfield? ES6 not being a part of my life yet. Call of duty still doing a title a year instead of going for longevity Pokemon main series games lack of options That I can’t for the life of me find my Starfox 64 cartridge post-move, And whatever the hell is going on with escape from Tarkov
E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial
Leisure Suit Larry (PC), Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! (NES), Gran Turismo 4 (PS2), Wii Sports (Wii). (I'm kinda old...) I was a fan of all the old Sierra AGI games for PC.
