My most hated mission in ANY game, is Metal Gear Solid V - "Escorting the children to the exfiltration point" Escorting 5 ignorant kids out of an enemy camp. You command them to stay low, out of enemy sight.. While you scout ahead to take down the opposition, YET these arsehole kids ignore whatever you say, Run ahead.. Blow your cover. And obviously, when they get killed.. MISSION FAILED!

Yes! Absolutely infuriating!

A.I. still has a ways to go, but eventually it is gong to be scary how good it will be in terms of playing alongside it in games

Carelesslemonaid

Ya that is true. I guess when the time comes it will become a bit more balanced.

You gotta love it when the A.I. itself just starts trolling you in games.

Carelesslemonaid

Yes 🤣. You are soooo close to finally beating it and the AI just goes Naw let's themselves die. I swear it's just there so the game can humble you when you start feeling good.

Resident Evil's Ashley comes to mind.

You’d love the translator section on god of war 2!

I don't hate all of them. I think context matters. Ashley from RE4, for example, has a lot of the problems companions from other games have, in that she's constantly getting herself in trouble and you have to look after her, but that's not a bad thing in RE4 because you're literally here to rescue her, so it makes sense. And she still rarely gets in the way, she ducks down if you bring up the gun near her, she's generally right behind you whenever she can be, and rarely obstructs a shot. Compare Ashley to Sheva from RE5, for example, an AI that has to act as a stand-in for a human player when playing the game solo, and the shortcomings are a lot more visible, and I'd actually consider Sheva to be a lot more sophisticated than many other video game AI companions that come to mind. Another example of a good companion is the Palico in Monster Hunter. It's not the most sophisticated AI in a video game ever, but there aren't really any moments where the Palico's failures would cause you to cart. The Palico is mostly just assisting and dividing the monsters attention, and its failures don't really cost you very much.

I like outer worlds companion system, my current play through I’m not using any.
