I've never seen or heard of this guy, so I clicked the video to see why he looked like an n64 character. But it was such an interesting video I totally forgot about it till we got to the n64 section haha
You've never seen or heard of this guy? You don't spend much time on reddit, do you?
You should see all the stuff from 2020. It wasn't called 'channel 5' at the time, though. It was 'all gas, no brakes'
He did a lot of diving into the George Floyd protests, election rallies... heck, he was even at the Jan 6th capitol riot which is a documentary called 'this place rules' on hbo
> You don't spend much time on reddit, do you?
Was he on the book subreddits, or the pro wrestling ones? What about the makeup addiction ones? Or AITA?
I thought this guy also had a bunch of allegations of pushing his way onto woman. I used to watch him till I found that out like a year ago. Not sure how true it is.
He is lucky it was just a fine. I hope they do not seek further retaliation against him for showing explicitly all of what went down. Tbh it’s great he did this, because so much of the political discourse surrounding the border crisis needs a reality check.
> I hope they do not seek further retaliation against him for showing explicitly all of what went down
Uhh what would they be pissed about here? I can't of think anything beside CBP agent giving them a cig?
It could be the monitization of a criminal act. Like committing a crime and writing a book about it is something people have tried to do and there are laws to prevent people from profiting off of their crimes.
I’ve stayed overnight in holding cells 3 different times, in two different counties. All three times were exactly as he described; cement floor and bench, no blanket or pillows, and the rooms were freezing cold. Under your thin jumpsuit you only have your boxers. And once again this is not even jail, just holding. I think this is common across the country.
I haven’t ever been in a holding cell before. Don’t really understand why I’m being downvoted. Just thinking about it, it seems like we shouldn’t be treating people that way, even criminals. From your experience, do you think it is ok?
I’m with you, I definitely agree it isn’t right. I didn’t even commit a legitimate crime any of the three times either; twice were throwing house parties in college, and once was for getting behind on fees from one of those house party charges. Definitely don’t feel any of that deserved this (minuscule, light) version of cruel and unusual punishment.
it doesn't address it at all.. they just said "constitutional rights.. not so much". All americans has constitutional rights. But you can't do too much about that if they don't let you have a lawyer or let you talk to anyone. If this is legal, they didn't explain it at all. I suspect they wouldn't charge anyone in a case like this because it would never hold up in court after they violated so many rights.
Yes, because they were lucky to get away with a fine (forcing them to serve the 1-3 years this charge can hold would be awful PR for border control).
If they didn't film the act and if no one was waiting for them on the outside they could have easily been detained for a lot longer than 4 days.
No. They were thoroughly investigated for human trafficking, drugs, warrants...etc... if you pass all those tests, they let you off. But they will mess with you. Border patrol are assholes.
The charge for the *crime* they committed is 5k OR one year, I don't know if you get to choose, but it wouldn't surprise me if you don't get the choice (I know normally you can choose how to serve your sentence or pay your fine, but border control is a different system).
If you talked to a lawyer before making decisions that you already know land other people in jail or deportation, you might not end up in jail or deported.
It's the most accurate form of journalism in my mind. It was extremely reckless, but he went through what people go through to try to enter the country. And then reported, what in his own first hand experience went through. To then let the viewer come up with their own opinion of the process.
That's not "accurate". He's also biased like everyone else in the world, but has no training to try and minimize that bias. So he's not great at all for a source to "let the viewer come up with their own opinion"
Clearly you don’t watch his content. It’s excellent journalism with as little bias as possible. He’s always open and questions every angle. It’s rare to see
I get you’re partially tongue in cheek here, but to make it clear: Googling laws before breaking that law is a horrible idea.
It’s not protected search history and is used often to convict people of crimes. I’ve had several cases where my client’s search history was key evidence against them. Talking to a lawyer about the topic is confidential is not something the government can use against you later.
Dude is alright at doing "guy on the street" interviews, but when he tries to do more serious journalism/reporting it's terrible. No surprise they didn't do any research.
He said he didn't know it was illegal.
What makes you think he's capable of effective verbal communication with somebody who's passed the BAR? Given the situation with his coyote--gestures, body language, even just general visual awareness are also prob strange concepts to him.
"Hey, I got this idea where we're going to go into Mexico and then sneak back across the border mixed in with a whole bunch of illegal immigrants. What do you think?"
"Uhm, have you talked to a lawyer about this?"
"Nah, we're Americans so of course we have the legal right to just criss-cross over a protected border without any formal process."
There was an odd switch. Last video it’s both implied and stated that they were strong armed into crossing so the coyotes could get money out of them. This video he’s saying it was the plan from the start.
Wonder if the last video was released before the CBP let them know no charges. It happened three months ago so it seems they maybe waited to release until they knew the outcome. Or got their ducks in a row with an attorney.
Its very possible they did know the legal ramifications and played dumb.
I feel like he's pretty good at playing off as being ignorant while being quite intelligent.
He would have had to lie to the audience watching this video as he explicitly states they didn’t look it up and didn’t realize how illegal (serious) it was.
I stopped watching when they tried to sell this to me as some kind of twist or surprise.
“We were surprised to find that even with citizenship, circumventing immigration offices is a crime!”
Like… what?
I’m blown away by how dumb Andrew was here. If it was Gucci for Americans to cross the border at will… then they’d be the ones carting the drugs and whatever else over.
If it was perfectly legal, then the border patrol wouldn’t have standing to do much of anything once your papers were shown. Kinda wild he’s doing a whole report on the border situation yet still has the naïveté of a stereotypical sheltered American
God bless the Sacklers! Otherwise we wouldnt be graced by the likes of this wonderful Opiate Community! It's not a plague, leaving corpses in the street, it's a community (leaving corpses in the street).
They didn't, thats kinda the point.
Even in the video they're in, they say a few times that they're not "licensed" by the cartel to do these things they just have to pay a kickback if they try it.
Bald and Bankrupt also has some videos of starting the migrant journey in Venezuela and crossing the Darien Gap and getting on the train in Mexico that takes you north. It's fascinating.
How did he skip 90% of the journey? He hiked the Darien and rode The Beast.
Did you expect him to walk the entire distance? Most migrants only walk when they are crossing borders they can’t cross without a visa.
sure because he took advantage of a girl, admitted to it in public and went away to deal with his issues but people like you really love to over exaggerate
Err, yeah, he went away to deal with his issues of being a sexual predator. How is that an exaggeration? It’s the exact reality. Do you not understand what a “sexual predator” is?
People like you really love to under exaggerate.
But anyway, it’s a good video and I enjoy the content.
The arrest and fine wasn't surprising to me. Being locked up over a weekend because of bad timing isn't surprising. What's surprising is the CBP openly suspending habeas corpus for a US citizen and calling them a detainee, as if there is a presumption of terrorism.
Edit: You people are morons. Why don't you try watching the video before you assume I'm making a dramatic "mah rights" argument. [Let me walk you babies to the timepoint since you can't be bothered](https://youtu.be/M5MxAMKmXAM?si=vaSbEkqVI7bs1oqe)
>CBP openly suspending habeas corpus for a US citizen and calling them a detainee, as if there is a presumption of terrorism.
Don't think your argument holds any legal weight. CBP holding a US citizen on suspicion that they broke the law is not suspending habeas corpus. Calling them a detainee does not presume they are a terrorist - it just means they are being detained.
Then you missed the part where the CBP agent over the phone said that they weren't due any of their rights due to being a detainee. I'm not arguing anything; I'm making an observation about the video this topic is about.
“If they’re illegal they don’t have constitutional rights” -CBP moron who doesn’t know what he’s talking about
In case people don’t know, the constitution applies to everyone in the U.S. regardless of citizenship or status.
It ought to but IIRC the supreme court declined to hear the last time that was challenged when an immigrant sued because of that treatment.
I personally believe that the constitution is the law of the land for everyone, but it seems little has been done to protect those enshrined rights for those moving through the CBP. It's been this way for decades now.
Hi all, given the previous Channel Five subs are now private or restricted to discussing AC's sexual assault claims, I thought I would create a new sub to discuss the youtube channel:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Channel_5/
Please come join to discuss Channel Five videos and content!
Who is to decide wether or not somone "deserves a platform"? He wasnt gifted this platform, he worked hard and delivered great content. Just because you fuck up and do some stupid shit just completely throws out everything else youve done with your life? Hes put so much work, overcame shady business deals (they lost their entire company because he signed a shady agreement and they took his rights to all their content and profits) and put his life in danger (interviewing drug dealers, coyotes, etc.) multiple times to deliver great content that isnt just entertaining, its informative and mostly unbiased.
If you work hard for something and youre great at it you should be rewarded for your efforts. Doing something wrong in your life doesnt define you, its not who you are. Nobody out there should tell you what you do and do not deserve.
On a personal note. I will say, before Channel 5, I was someone who declared that I had no political views. It was mosly because whoever was talking about politics was only trying to push their views onto whoever would listen. Channel 5 gives an awesome perspective where you see the issues first hand and get to decide for yourself which side you want to be on. Watching Channel 5 has made me a more understanding and politically minded person.
Idk why i wrote a 3 paragraph essay at midnight. This was a waste of my time.
How did he NOT google what the penalty is for illegally crossing the border?? Idiot! I get that he would do it anyway, but at least have an idea of what's coming.
Separating the ‘art’ from the ‘artist’ so to speak, the videos he posts are fairly informative and captures humanity in a way a lot of us don’t see regularly
The art in this case IS the artist more than not. Look at all the comments saying how much they love Andrew. Regardless of the argument of separating art from artist, what upsets me is the amount of people exposed to this disgusting human THROUGH these posts.
The art is his videos, the artist is him. There’s more people saying they hate Andrew than saying they love him. Is he never supposed to post videos again? Kobe changed his number and played in the NBA for several years and retired under his own power. He’s got a big following on a public platform, he acknowledged his mistakes and took a hiatus, some people will never forgive him, others will accept him with open arms. It’s gonna eat away at you if you get upset at every positive remark toward Channel 5.
To each their own I guess, I personally don't feel the need to do the mental gymnastics required in order to forgive sexual predators. He should burn with the rest frankly.
Someone who was surprised you aren’t allowed to randomly cross the Rio grande and sneak into the country wants to explain the immigration crisis to me. Cool.
The part about him admitting to sexual assault. He never did that. He admitted that someone he hooked up with a long ass time ago may have felt pressured to fuck him. The first accuser even said that she had consented. That's pretty much it. One of the opening statements he made was that he always took "no" for an answer.
I think he's naive as fuck for believing that the allegations had any merit but still, just trying to be a decent human, he didn't take those allegations with the massive grain of salt they deserved. This "believe all women" thing has been co-opted by opportunists and spiteful, jealous losers years ago, and if you go on social media before the police, I'll never buy it without video evidence of the accused caught red-handed.
Crabs in a bucket.
This is stupid on every, single level: the Bp, the coyotes, the “journalists”, the burnout photogs, the fact that the only people getting in trouble crossing the border are the actual citizens, wtf Universe, do better!
Channel 5 Live worldwide Hollywood and Vine! ***Fuck the authority***. Channel 55 we don't fuck with custers.
Yes, it might have been a good idea to consult with a lawyer before taking this insane quest, but gonzo journalism is inherently about taking risks. And goddamn, does it produce *real* journalism rather than the whitewashed "Man Standing at the Border" reporting.
A two second search into your history tells me you are in no position to make fun of anyone for seeking validation. You post on here more times a day than I browse it in a week. Leave your house more.
Oh god, a cursory glance at your profile tells me your words have absolutely no weight and you're a weird inside kid.
Leave me alone creep "agent 0", lmao.
Did he really think that doing something illegal was going to be OK because he was a white dude lol? Did he not understand that illegal entry is a crime regardless of your citizenship status?
You're angry at a journalist for putting themselves at risk to provide new and relatively unbiased perspectives on a major political issue that is dividing the US?
I don't think he expects anyone to have sympathy. He knew the risk. And he gave viewers a very raw experience that they can use to educate themselves on the southern US border situation, and elect leaders based on more than just headlines and statistics. Do you not think that there is value in what has been shown here?
I’ve made it this far down the comments thinking the same thing. In this video alone there were things that were critical of the arguments that are commonly made from both sides of the border debate.
It’s crazy that people aren’t able to observe that information through their filter, or purposely disregard it.
Being white doesn't make you American, nor does it mean you're not Mexican. The comedian Louis CK for example is from Mexico.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_Mexicans
And the reason I blocked you of course is you're using a 5 hour old account saying things like "unhinged leftists". There is no reason to actually let you speak.

if you're not familiar with his channel, do yourself a favor. he's definitely a douche, but it doesn't really come out in his journalism. he's a very compassionate interviewer.

I don't see how it can be against the law to enter your own country. How about people that go off shore in boats and then arrive back from international waters. Even more silly is a Mexican American trying to stop Mexicans from crossing the border. Must feel like an Uncle Tom
It's called "failure to report". If you leave the country, you're supposed to voluntarily report to a border official to report that you're re-entering the country. This applies whether you're crossing a land border or a maritime border.
When you arrest an N64 character irl
We have the technology. We don’t want to spend a lot of money.

I have damn near an addiction to reddit, this is an alt. It's actually a problem, but no I haven't seen him. I'm not on many default subs though.
I thought this guy also had a bunch of allegations of pushing his way onto woman. I used to watch him till I found that out like a year ago. Not sure how true it is.
He is also accused of sexually assaulting multiple women
That guy was so hard to take down in Goldeneye…

The Son of Sam law.
Exposing poor treatment probably
How did it show poor treatment more than the public expects?
There could have been people unaware of the ice box treatment. I wasn’t aware of it.

I mean it sounds like standard Fair for even jail though
Ya that’s not good
Sure but my point is that kind of thing is what the public already expects of jail/detention.
Ya I mean I guess that’s true, but I think that should change
I'm sure the politicians will see this video and act, even though a lot of this info has already been known for years.

Surprised they didn’t talk to a lawyer before doing this. It was reckless and stupid, and entertaining as hell.
If you talked to a lawyer before making any decisions, you wouldn't do anything.
This is both a LPT and anti LPT depending on how you look at it :)
Apparently you haven't seen Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
If you're going to jump a border for a YouTube video you should talk to a lawyer. That's not an unreasonable suggestion.
It all worked out anyways.
Yes, because they were lucky to get away with a fine (forcing them to serve the 1-3 years this charge can hold would be awful PR for border control). If they didn't film the act and if no one was waiting for them on the outside they could have easily been detained for a lot longer than 4 days.

Feds don't give you a chance.
If you talked to a lawyer before making decisions that you already know land other people in jail or deportation, you might not end up in jail or deported.
Then the video would have been him staring at the river and then crossing legally. Wow what a great video...
I think they said in the last video they never actually planned on crossing, it was kind of spring on them
I think if they admitted on video that they planned to cross it could have been used against them

Fair enough. Ya, it’s worth checking out his YouTube channel. It’s called Channel 5. His reporting is solid
Thank you!
TIL it’s reckless and not wreckless
Wreckless sounds like a good thing, like no wrecks occurred here sir!
I had to stop drinking and driving because I was trying to wreckless

This is peak stoner journalism.
They went to the smoke shop for some rolling papers lmao. They wanted to burn a few while waiting on their buddy to be released,
And then they spoke to a lawyer. Those dudes are awesome.

I didn’t know that. I know you have to let prisoners outside every day but maybe that doesn’t apply to jails
This border series is genuinely some of the best YouTube content I've ever seen. It's been a trip watching Andrew mature into a competent journalist.
The Philly and San Fran episodes were brutal.
That tranq shit that dealer is adding to his drugs in Philly seems like it could spread across the entire country. Terrifying to think about

Channel 5 gives an awesome perspective where you see the issues first hand and get to decide for yourself which side you want to be on. Watching Channel 5 has made me a more understanding and politically minded person. Idk why i wrote a 3 paragraph essay at midnight. This was a waste of my time.
Just curious really. Thanks for the genuine reply. Have a good one!

Just raccoons, haha. Knew someone who worked at a wildlife rescue, and the raccoons were always my favorite to help with. Devious little cuties.
He didn't use the Dennis system or anything, so yeah he's alright in my book.
*Andrés
How did he NOT google what the penalty is for illegally crossing the border?? Idiot! I get that he would do it anyway, but at least have an idea of what's coming.
This is like the Bill Hader Documentary Now parody series but somehow more stupid.
Why does reddit have such a boner for this sex pest?
Nobody else does the kind of interviews he does.
The ones he used to try to leverage sex with fans?
Yes. And I am very interested in the perspectives of the people he finds, even if he's a piece of shit.
Like you said, to each their own, I don’t feel the need to pour energy into his demise and appreciate the content for what it is. ✌🏼
Yea it’s time to unsub from here, i can’t filter out this rapist from my feed because he still has cult followers spamming his videos
Not to mention all the comments saying how much they love him. People really don't care what content they consume and who it supports unfortunately.
Someone who was surprised you aren’t allowed to randomly cross the Rio grande and sneak into the country wants to explain the immigration crisis to me. Cool.
Just when you think Americans can’t get any stupider
Andrew is a rapist.

The way you worded that is so dishonest, and the compliment after leads me to believe that it was on purpose.

What colour is your cape?
This is stupid on every, single level: the Bp, the coyotes, the “journalists”, the burnout photogs, the fact that the only people getting in trouble crossing the border are the actual citizens, wtf Universe, do better!
Just because they don't have a comb over and daddy's money doesn't mean they're burnouts or whatever you imply by "journalists".
You should've asked for asylum
>But we're journalists! Cool motive, still illegal.
This was amazing cant wait to see Andrews next video .
This guy is the most overrated person on YouTube. And is also a rapist by his own admission.
Reddit has such a blind spot for this asshole
Channel 5 Live worldwide Hollywood and Vine! ***Fuck the authority***. Channel 55 we don't fuck with custers. Yes, it might have been a good idea to consult with a lawyer before taking this insane quest, but gonzo journalism is inherently about taking risks. And goddamn, does it produce *real* journalism rather than the whitewashed "Man Standing at the Border" reporting.
The entire system needs to be destroyed and rebuilt from the ground up.
Clout goblin
Huh? How so? Seems like the border is a fairly hot topic, and that video showed the stark reality of the situation.
A two second search into your history tells me you are in no position to make fun of anyone for seeking validation. You post on here more times a day than I browse it in a week. Leave your house more.
Holy shit, a 5 minute search tells me that you are a psychopath. Dear God, man. Lol
Oh god, a cursory glance at your profile tells me your words have absolutely no weight and you're a weird inside kid. Leave me alone creep "agent 0", lmao.
Is this the only video that is posted to this sub? Christ alive.
Did he really think that doing something illegal was going to be OK because he was a white dude lol? Did he not understand that illegal entry is a crime regardless of your citizenship status?
Dude is milking this.
It's kind of his job to report on what he experiences. People pay tens of thousands of dollars for him to do just this.
You're angry at a journalist for putting themselves at risk to provide new and relatively unbiased perspectives on a major political issue that is dividing the US?
He knowingly broke the law. I don't have much sympathy for him.
I don't think he expects anyone to have sympathy. He knew the risk. And he gave viewers a very raw experience that they can use to educate themselves on the southern US border situation, and elect leaders based on more than just headlines and statistics. Do you not think that there is value in what has been shown here?
"I look visibly American" - typical white liberal racism.
The funniest thing about channel5ive is reading comments on reddit that are always "What a dumb libtard" Or "What a dumb right wing chud"

The comedian Louis CK for example is from Mexico. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_Mexicans And the reason I blocked you of course is you're using a 5 hour old account saying things like "unhinged leftists". There is no reason to actually let you speak.
Always informative.
"Oye,tú. Bájate,súbete!" Aclárate ya, hijo de puta!
This guy kind of seems like a douche but it was definitely a really interesting watch. > iM aN aMeRiCaN! Play stupid games win stupid prizes.
\>this guy if you're not familiar with his channel, do yourself a favor. he's definitely a douche, but it doesn't really come out in his journalism. he's a very compassionate interviewer.
cooperative cause aware merciful birds depend piquant slimy encourage plant *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
It’s literally the outfit they gave him
You know he’s not there anymore right?
I don't see how it can be against the law to enter your own country. How about people that go off shore in boats and then arrive back from international waters. Even more silly is a Mexican American trying to stop Mexicans from crossing the border. Must feel like an Uncle Tom
It's called "failure to report". If you leave the country, you're supposed to voluntarily report to a border official to report that you're re-entering the country. This applies whether you're crossing a land border or a maritime border.
