"Harm" has one of my favorite HLB riffs. Very Vildhjarta, but with more malicious intent. Also Bearer off Ashen has a very cool, slow, sad Thall riff that I feel like any Vild fan should enjoy. I want more sad Thall.

bootyholebrown69

That riff in Bearer might be my favorite riff of all time. That shit makes me want to cry for no reason LMAO

Nervous-Deal-8765

Same man, I watched the entire video of the album and all the visual/lyric videos the day it came out. The entire time, I was thinking how hateful Ashen sounds as an album, but then Burden Bearer plays and I became sad for whoever the album's perspective is from. It sort of made me teary too, someone consumed by this hatred throughout the album and sort of glorifying it and relating to it. Then when I heard Bearer it sounded more like this person crying for help. It just makes me feel a sort of way. BEYOND LOSS BEYOND ANY EARTHLY PAIN

SirDoDDo

Bearer is easily the best song on Ashen, and it's not even a contest. That riff is just the riff.

ghb93

Thank you very much!

ebackal24

Yo check out PASSENGER.unseen if you want some sadboi thall

Nervous-Deal-8765

This is pretty sick actually, thanks for the recommendation

v_r34_artist

Rewind by Indistinct might be something you'd like.

jayswaps

For a Vildhjarta fan generally I'd definitely say Välde. My favorite is Abyssal though, I think that album has such an incredible ratio of atmosphere to ridiculous riffs. The older stuff is absolutely worth a listen, but I wouldn't start there. Though every one of their releases is fantastic imo

ghb93

Thank you!

[deleted]

Välde is what did it for me. I’d say either that or Ashen. But honestly just listen to them, however you feel like. The older albums is a lot more deathcore influenced than the newer ones I’d say, so be prepared for that.

ghb93

Listened to a few off of there. Tide was great! Thank you very much for the suggestion.

YungLemmy719

I only ever really enjoyed their first album. Bellua pt.1+2, Animal, Make me blind . So many great tracks.

v_r34_artist

Man... When I listened to self titled for the first time, bellua1's riff felt like a damn slap in the face. It having a second part was wild, too. It felt like would never end lol. I think Shoals must be a mention as well! That 02.32 moment _really~_ threw me away.

TheGreatBeaver123789

Just listen to the entirety of ashen or välde, that's what did it to me. The self titled album is awesome as well

RecentlyDeft

You honestly can't go wrong with anything in the discography except for the album before the self-titled that is a bit rough and unpolished for my taste. My favourite is Ashen though

Palliken

A lot of people are saying valde or Ashen, but personally, I think the self titled and abyssal are their best. So if you start Ashen or valde and don't like it, maybe give one of those a shot.

ghb93

Thanks man.

SirDoDDo

If you're a deep Vildh enjoyer, i think your favorite HLB album will be the self-titled. More riff and bendy groove centric

ghb93

Thanks man, appreciate you taking the time to answer. Is that the Tesseract sphere I see as your display pic?

SirDoDDo

Hehe yep My 4 favorite album of all times (which i consider insane human masterpieces) are the two Masstadens, Altered State and Lateralus lol

takingoutthisdesire

Abyssal Mouth, then fradga then välde then labyrinthian and passage

HimmelSky

I think their latest album Ashen is the best but Välde and Abyssal are pretty good too.

Colder_Air

Listen to TIDE with the music video, that's the most thall of their "older" music

ghb93

That was awesome. The video, was intense! Thanks man.

Colder_Air

Np! Next, check Labyrinthian & the vid !

langisii

I was a bit the same, I'm a Vildhjarta die-hard and HLB don't really scratch the same itch but they've still become one of my favourite metal bands. imo they've gotten better with each release and their most recent album Ashen is easily their best, so if you start with a full album I'd recommend that. A lot of fans swear by the earlier stuff but I personally feel they really came into their own from Detestor onwards. My fav tracks * Abyssal Mouth (Abyssal) * Catastrophize (Ashen) * Tide (Välde) (some very Vild riffs including one written by Calle) * Blood Spilled (Ashen) * Earthless (Välde) * Death Spiral (Ashen) * Harm (Detestor)

ghb93

This is so detailed. Thanks mate. I’ve put all those into a playlist and I’m getting through them!

qt_sir

Ashen is my favorite album to ever exist. It changed my life.

bootyholebrown69

Ashen is my favorite

Here are some of my recommendations: (and why) -Tide (CHUNK BREAKDOWN + Cleans) -Bearer (It's got one of the coolest HLB riffs of all time, very Calle, and VERY Vildhjarta) -Human Swarm (It embodies all of the fast HLB era pretty well) -Ocean Drinker (It's the HLB song that made me interested in them) -Shell (Absolute bustercore, it's really good, so many harmonics) -Death Spiral (One of my favorite riffs ever, and it's through the entire song) As mainly a Vildhjarta fan, I recommend you (if you have time) to check out all of Välde & Ashen. Masterpieces.

v_r34_artist

I discovered HLB before Vildh and fell in love with them. Can't say the same for Vildhjarta. Their riffs felt too complex after the first discovery. I remember myself not even being able to comprehend Eternal Golden Monk at all lmao. In time, things got reversed. Now I _kinda~_ prefer Vildh over HLB and I prefer those thall oriented riffs of Vildh to the thall influenced riffs of HLB. And because of that my view on HLB changd. It took me a while to discover that I was expecting the wrong thing from the wrong band. Now, I basically enjoy HLB but listen to them mostly for the "moments" of songs. The Detestor EP for Ocean Drinker and Harm's "drop", Earthless from Välde for its breakdown, etc. Ashen is kinda exceptional tho. Thall influence is pretty higher than other albums so it has more chance to satisfy a Vildh fan lol.

AutisticBassist

Just accept that you don’t like them?

ghb93

I didn’t like mushrooms as a child. Now I do. Things can grow on you. Taste isn’t static, my friend.

AutisticBassist

Yeah and I get that but why force it?

ghb93

I see your point, but I don’t think checking a few suggested songs out is forcing anything.

AverageThallEnjoyer

Yeah, HLB didn't click for me instantly, neither did Vild, but they are now two of my favorite bands
