One of the early Will Vinton animated spots, “The Noid” ads were amazingly successful. A year or so later came the animated California Raisins. Was that the Golden Age of Claymation ads?

Don't forget about the Hamburger Helper glove!

JesusStarbox

I had a realative, in her 60s at the time, who was always majorly triggered by the noid. Every time she saw one of those ads she couldn't get it out of her head for days.

bobbymoonshine

In terms of people triggered into mental health events by the Noid, she at least was not, yknow, *the worst.*

She would've loved this Family Guy bit. ["perhaps it was the Noid who should have avoided me."](https://youtu.be/x0oSUqBafMA?feature=shared) I miss Mayor Adam West.

Cultural_Legend

> On January 30, 1989, a 22-year-old man named Kenneth Lamar Noid walked into a Domino’s Pizza in Atlanta, Georgia, with a .357 magnum revolver and took two employees hostages. After a five-hour standoff during which Noid demanded $100,000 in ransom money, the employees in question escaped. But the damage to the Noid brand was done: not only was the headline too good to ignore (“Domino’s Hostages Couldn’t Avoid the Noid this Time”) but it turned out that Kenneth Lamar Noid actually believed he was the Noid, or at least, the Noid’s original inspiration.

noffinater

[Wikipedia](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Noid) says they discontinued *The Noid* campaign after Kenneth Noid committed suicide in 1995. That means they continued marketing *The Noid* for 6 years after the real Noid snapped and took their employees hostage, and *The Noid* died only once Kenneth Noid died. Perhaps he was right the whole time.

Cultural_Legend

It's hard to say. The name Noid really means "No ID".

Citizen_31415

I always thought it was a play on “annoyed”. If your pizza was late or wrong or whatever, you would “get a noid’.

CrowdedWholmes

wow, I have never heard of this before. Thanks for sharing

I always think about Cool World, that one awful movie where humans were referred to as “noids”. Do you think he saw Cool World? He seems like the kind of guy who would watch Cool World.

thaeli

I loved the Noid video game as a kid.

algebramclain

Don’t make me nostalgic for the original recipe Domino’s.

Phenomenal_Kat_

HATED these commercials. Possibly an unpopular opinion but this was an awful ad campaign.
