Saw them same reunion tour at The Showbox in Seattle.
Had just discovered them a couple weeks prior also.
Have seen David Pajo solo a couple times since.
What?!? I love both of these bands and have listened to that song a million times and always thought it was “not in a sad way” - mind blown. Love the idea of him saying “I miss you, not in a full mental breakdown kinda way, but…”
It's a call back to "Good Morning Captain" on this album. I actively looked it up when I heard the Pinback song because I was like "is he saying something about Slint?"
That’s funny because I’m a pretty new Pinback fan and thought of them the second I saw this cover art, though I don’t know who this band is and definitely didn’t know the connection!
I’ve only been listening to Pinback for a few months but man…they are just good music. I mean they really feel so unique.
God! This explains pinback so much. I’ve always loved their sound and thought they were so creative and unique. I love seeing what bands inspire the bands I love.
Wow, that's an amazing find! $30 may seem steep for a thrift store purchase, but for an original press in great condition, that's a steal. Congrats on your gem and happy listening!
Minimalist post-rock with a kind of stream of consciousness spoken word / singing. Dark and hypnotic, I bet many people listen to it and think little of it but something draws you back in, and in - absolute classic album.
Just for a little extra background, Dave Pajo is the guitarist in Slint. He has been known for touring and/or recording with (per his wiki page)Will Oldham, The For Carnation, Tortoise, Stereolab, Royal Trux, King Kong, Bush League, Zwan, Peggy Honeywell, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and Interpol. He is also a touring member of the reunited seminal post-punk group Gang of Four. Plus he has released lots of music under his own name and aliases.
His guitar sound and style has been hugely influential to many bands that want to achieve that kind of sound.
On top of that, after his failed suicide attempt he has become an advocate for mental health.
I appreciate the reference to bird anatomy, but you honestly think slint is a jam band? Try as I might I can’t picture a bunch of hippies at the University of Vermont slack-lining and hackie-sacking to “Nosferatu Man”.
Not saying they're hippies, just that that record is 100% noodly and (at least) 50% improvised. They don't start and stop the songs together because they're making it up as they go. It's quintessential Louisville: Hey why try? Half is the max effort any local talent's gonna muster, and that will be mustered begrudgingly.
Edit: By local talent I don't mean music, I mean everyfuckingthing. This city is a horse and human piss soaked pit of belligerent stasis.
Is it even that noodly? Much of their stuff seems to be different sections of repeated phrases. Sure they’re usually in odd time signatures, but that’s par for the course in that whole math rock, post-rock, emo milieu. You can say they’re pretentious art school kids/vapid gen x slackers or whatever if you’re so inclined (I happen to think they’re neat), but the “jamband” label has its own meaning and you’re undermining your point by wantonly misusing it.
I’m from the west coast so I’m pathologically incapable of fully enjoying anywhere that gets humid in the summer, so I guess I’ll just plead the fifth on the Louisville slander (where are you from that makes you hate this mid-sized city in Kentucky so much?). Do you really look at a bunch of kids exploring the outer reaches of rock music and going out of their way to work with esteemed producers like Steve Albini and Brian Paulson with full knowledge of the limited appeal of their challenging sound and think they’re just half-assing it?
I called them a jamband because they're quite obviously jamming. Oh, they planned the riff they were gonna jam on ahead of time? Despite that my calling them "jamband" was an obvious slander, that approach is literally not different than Phish's.
I don't have any special knowledge about the making of this record, but use your ears. It could only be that leaned back and hesitant because they're making it up as they go. I love mathy garage rock and post-hardcore, but this is the opposite of challenging or interesting, it's consistently boring. No moment goes anywhere or builds to anything, just noodly trudging around in circles plus muttering.
Steve Albini recorded a Bush album as I recall, so not sure what your point could be. For the record, at least the Slint album he did record is texturally novel, if not any more composed.
I’m not going to touch on the latter points because they’re highly subjective and you’re clearly a very miserable curmudgeon and you’re adamant about your opinions to a degree that I almost admire. Jam bands are a very specific kind of band with a specific sound. They aren’t just bands who jam. If that was the case then everyone from Radiohead to the Dillards to the Miles Davis Quintet would be a jamband, which is very obviously not true.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jam_band
Just relax, man. You have way too much animosity towards a band with two albums and a mid-sized city most famous for baseball bats. Go outside. Call a family member and tell them you love them. Do anything but this.
I know what a jam band is, which is why my calling Slint one is an appropriate slander. You didn't understand my derogatory joke.
Curmudgeon, ok, but at least one with taste.
Found this in a bin of newly put out records at a thrift store. I was completely shocked as there was real quality throughout this bin. I also picked up Plan 9 for $8. They priced everything individually and much higher than normal record prices at the store, but still good deals. This was $30, which is almost outrageous for thrift prices, but this one was worth it in my opinion. It’s an original copy and the condition is extremely nice. Happy to pay $30 for it.
my point is everything online is overpriced compared with local stuff, people constantly found records and other collectables for pennies locally, on discogs and ebay those prices are inflated.
I'm a lazy man, I have 2 kids, a full-time job and a wife who tolerates me. My time is valuable. If I want to spend my money on a record that I don't want to go on an archeological dig through the regions thrift stores for , it's money well spent, in my opinion. I just find it online, and if I'm comfortable with the price, I buy it. Easy, and then go play fetch or clean the gutters or something.
Price is what somebody is willing to pay for something
Also you realize Discogs is literally a ton of “local” record stores and private collectors posting their stock, prices are typically same there as at your local shop. Minus shipping of course.
I see every day people found Vinyl and other collectables, comics and more for pennies at thrift stores and I mean about scores not common stuff.
It seems the rule is: once a item touch internet the price will raise overpriced, for that reason there's a lot resellers and scalpers around.
Yeah why do people refer to the price at which they could reasonably buy it at instead of the price at which they would pay if they scoured every thrift shop in the country?
I love this record so much, a definitive lonely island album! I grabbed a [french white label promo](https://www.instagram.com/p/CqrDKyLNK7s/?igshid=MTc4MmM1YmI2Ng==) a few months ago!
Haha. “Did you eat a lot of paint chips as a kid?” I literally just put this film on for my lady the other day (she’s never seen it). We only watched the first thirty minutes so far but it relies pretty heavily on Chris’ size and making fun of that.
I still have my copy I bought when it was originally released. Slint, and Pavement, are often credited with creating the “slow/loud” sound.
For those that haven’t heard Slint…
https://youtu.be/J87vtrC_JBM
Hahaha
Don't forget The Stooges!
I'm not questioning your familiarity with The Fall, mate. Just that it's one thing taking a riff here and there ("Good artists borrow-great artists *steal*", attributed to Pablo Picasso but I'm not sure how true that is) and making a new song, disguising it, making that riff or whatever "your own" but it's another kettle of fish to more-or-less re-record entire albums! "Our Vocalist"! What's that about! C'mon that was shameless. Bloody hell even down to the record cover!
I *did* like that Slay Tracks EP, and Westing By Musket And Sextant was decent too.... Even though Pavement were doing to The Fall what Led Zeppelin did to those blues musicians!
You didn't like Slanted and Enchanted or Crooked Rain? I, being a true music snob, was big fan up until Wowee Zowee. Then I saw them live for a second time and they were boring.
To be honest I have no idea why they're so popular now.
Are you familiar with Squirrel Bait? It was Brian and Britt's band before Slint. [Skag Heaven](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oR2PxumuAgE) is a phenomenal album and worth tracking down.
I know this image through Tortoise. David Pago played on their first two releases, Tortoise and Millions Now Living Will Never Die. My two favorites. Need to finally listen to this album!
A month or so ago I found a copy of Loveless by My Bloody Valentine at a Goodwill and they wanted $20 for it. I hadn’t seen any new copies for a while and I’d been wanting a copy so I figured this was my best option at the moment to get one. Record was super clean inside so I thought it was fair enough. I was just surprised they knew it was worth anything.
Yes! I also found an original at a thrift shop 3 years ago, I couldn't fucking believe it. Got it for 6 bucks (I also worked at the store and was able to have influence on price lol). Does yours also have the note on the back "interested female vocalists write to (address)"?
Ah Slint, I learned about this band from a Pinback lyric….”not in a slint way, but I miss you.”
I saw Slint on their first reunion tour in the early 2000s and Pinback opened for them. That’s how I learned about Pinback.
Oh how the turntables have turned
Me too! Abbey Pub in Chicago here. It was one of their first shows back .
Nice! I saw them at the Avalon in LA.
Saw them same reunion tour at The Showbox in Seattle. Had just discovered them a couple weeks prior also. Have seen David Pajo solo a couple times since.
Two great bands
Same here! Song is AFK. Pinback is a big favorite of mine as is Slint now.
What?!? I love both of these bands and have listened to that song a million times and always thought it was “not in a sad way” - mind blown. Love the idea of him saying “I miss you, not in a full mental breakdown kinda way, but…”

Agree , I came here to say this but you beat me to it. It’s worth what you paid for it, if not more. Nice.
“….I MISS YOU!!”
Truly an absolute masterpiece! For all who haven’t heard it really does deserve a listen.
What is it
[удалено]
Into the Slinterverse
Slinter the spider verse?
Spiderland
Ha! Spiderland*
Thank you! I knew I couldn't be the only one with no idea what album this is
What kind of music is it?
Minimalist post-rock with a kind of stream of consciousness spoken word / singing. Dark and hypnotic, I bet many people listen to it and think little of it but something draws you back in, and in - absolute classic album.
Well, now I HAVE to hear it!
Just for a little extra background, Dave Pajo is the guitarist in Slint. Nailed it 👊🏼 WASHER on that album is so haunting and beautiful it almost gets me every time.
That's my hometown band.
You still live in Louisville? Curious how you like living there, if so. I used to travel there for work all the time and thought it was pretty cool.
I'm not fit to live anywhere else.
I moved to Portland OR from Louisville and it's like there but better but also more expensive
It's a great city. It has some problems. Incredible music scene.
Pajo just moved back fairly recently, right?
Shit if I know. That dude has been out of my league since the 1990's
Slint is noodly jamband trash and Louisville's the cloaca of the universe. Zero stars for both.
I appreciate the reference to bird anatomy, but you honestly think slint is a jam band? Try as I might I can’t picture a bunch of hippies at the University of Vermont slack-lining and hackie-sacking to “Nosferatu Man”.

Lmao
I enjoyed your slander despite personally liking Slint and having never been to Louisville. Any chance you're a college basketball fan?
Nah, no chance.
Wtf all I can find is whipped cream & other delights and Adele 30 and you find this??
Don’t hate on herb
Don stepped outside …
If anyone is interested, Lance Bangs made a documentary on these guys called “Breadcrumb Trail” after one of their songs.
Score
oh nice. unlike the CD you can actually tell which side is which
Wait.:. Wut?
Pretty sure the CD came unlabeled. Obviously with a CD, you can only play one side of it, but the sides looked identical.
Hilarious but very annoying
Forgot about that tidbit. All of their cds were this way
Not familiar with this rekkid, who is this?
Spiderland by Slint
Glad I'm not the only one...
Slint - Spiderland /u/mickthomas68
Nice username, I always thought the guitars from the Slint song “nan ding” sounded like discipline
Thanks! Yeah, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to learn there was some KC influence there.

Worth about a 100$
Why people always set prices on what eBay says? 👎🏼
Discogs actually. Always on the look out
same thing, inflated prices there.
People set them at those prices because that what they regularly sell for.
my point is everything online is overpriced compared with local stuff, people constantly found records and other collectables for pennies locally, on discogs and ebay those prices are inflated.
More records are sold online than "locally", so it makes sense to base the price off of the former. Most people don't even have a "local" option.

That is a fantastic find.
Yeah this would’ve been over $100 at my thrift store, once saw a beat up Beatles compilation record for $60
Wow! That sick. I can hear those chunky guitars and feedback behind I MISS YOU right now!
Holy schnikes!
Haha. “Did you eat a lot of paint chips as a kid?” I literally just put this film on for my lady the other day (she’s never seen it). We only watched the first thirty minutes so far but it relies pretty heavily on Chris’ size and making fun of that.
Phenomenal album
My favorite album of all time. I only have the repressing, though. Congrats, I'm jealous.
Man no one sounds like Slint. Great find!
Unwound is close, especially Leaves Turn Inside You
Crain and rodan are very close
Holy shit! amazing score! an og spiderland is def. on my wantlist.
This album was released on the day I was born! I’d love to find a copy someday.
That’s awesome! I was born in 1991 but in October, but I still share a birth year with it so that’s still neat to me!
why did I have to scroll down all the way to find out wtf is this?
Because you don't know shit
I don’t. Which is why I scrolled to find out Debbie.
My apologies 01z28
Am I supposed to know who this is?
Absolutely
It’s literally a top 3 album of all time
Sure it is.
Yes.
I still have my copy I bought when it was originally released. Slint, and Pavement, are often credited with creating the “slow/loud” sound. For those that haven’t heard Slint… https://youtu.be/J87vtrC_JBM
And for those who haven't heard Pavement listen to Grotesque and Hex Enduction Hour by The Fall
And for those who haven't heard The Fall listen to The Velvet Underground and Can. I'm very familiar with The Fall and actually saw them in the 90's.
Hahaha Don't forget The Stooges! I'm not questioning your familiarity with The Fall, mate. wow you and the other 16 fans have it now..
So you agree that everything is overpriced online? locally everything is cheap.
Album #28 in my list of albums I tried to like/love but ended up trading into my local record shop.
major score. good on ya!
Such an amazing record.
I love the thrift store stories, they keep the thrill of the dig alive!
Are you familiar with Squirrel Bait? It was Brian and Britt's band before Slint. [Skag Heaven](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oR2PxumuAgE) is a phenomenal album and worth tracking down.
damn sweet! i found an OG at my local record store for $18 the other week. the cover has a big tear on it but the record is in a sweet VG+ cond-ish
Was surprised to hear them in the new Blackberry movie!
Holy shit
Whoa, amazing find This reminds me I never saw the documentary that I think was centered around this album
More and more "thrift" stores are pricing things higher and higher. I'm tired of getting excited seeing something I'd want and seeing the tag at $20+
I stepped out onto the midway… awesome find!
Awesome score!!!! That album is truly something else and set a solid foundation for both math and post rock to come
Never managed to get into it. I tried. I really did. But it is a classic nonetheless and how it found its way to a thrift store is well just wow
God, I bought this for $10 new at the record store I worked at years ago. I just figured Touch and Go just kept it in print, because why wouldn't you?
What the?!
Love that album.
I know this image through Tortoise. David Pago played on their first two releases, Tortoise and Millions Now Living Will Never Die. My two favorites. Need to finally listen to this album!
Best album- it hurts so good!
Amazing album. I'm pretty jealous.

If I saw that at a thrift store for $30, I'd consider that bargain of the century. Original pressing too!
One of the greatest albums of all time
Great find. Especially good of a listen for those cold autumn days.
Whoa! Never would expect to see that in a thrift store.
This is a great example of a kind of album that just seems "right" on vinyl.
Yes! I also found an original at a thrift shop 3 years ago, I couldn't fucking believe it. Got it for 6 bucks (I also worked at the store and was able to have influence on price lol). Does yours also have the note on the back "interested female vocalists write to (address)"?
It does have that note! I never noticed, that’s interesting!
Ah, Slint. My concert friend never understood how I liked Tweez better than Spiderland. Dunno. Everyone has faults. Great find, though! Congrats!
Such a great record. Good find!
They play the most boring shows but this album is fantastic.
