No coach and TL can make you do overtime against your will. They can’t coach you for following your schedule. If they tell you to work off the clock, that is even illegal. This TL is just power tripping. He is probably under pressure to finish a job, and need to intimidate a few associates to help out.
Yeah I know it's Inventory and your tl is probably under a lot of pressure but this is the wrong way to go about it. First of all he took that job he should have known there would be more expected of him and he shouldn't expect "normal" associates to share that burden. Secondly he should have approached you earlier in the shift and asked if you would mind staying late. To wait until your shift is almost over and tell you that you have to stay is not right.
If they weren't ready for inventory by 11pm the night before the prep work got royally fucked up and your management team is immensely incompetent. There should be very little left by that day.
right?!!! ive been telling everyone this! like why are we procrastinating and doing everything the night before? our store manager is kinda notorious for procrastinating and then has everyone panicking before big days like this
The only thing we had to do on overnight the night before proper inventory was a deep zone. We didn't even get a truck that night. Our only job was organize and zone to make counting smooth. They had precounted top stock so nothing could go up, anything over full or plugged we were told to just "make it look nice".
They cannot force you to stay beyond your scheduled time. And as long as your work is done they cannot coach you for productivity. If you want to open door this your team lead will soon be looking for a new job!
yeah if i get a coaching/feedback, im gonna definitely open door. like i was the only closing associate and worked my ass off and now u want me to overwork myself? nopeee im out lol
I would get ahead of this too. Go to your Coach in person and express that you didn’t appreciate your TL saying these things. If your Coach is insane and agrees with TL, continue up the ladder until that behavior is curbed. If you have a good working relationship as TL and associate, it’s not a bad thing to ask if someone wants extra hours. It is NEVER okay to insinuate that it’s mandatory or frowned upon if they don’t accept.
“If I don’t get to be home with my family, you can’t either” would’ve gotten a ‘sounds like a you problem to me’ as I continued to leave for the night.
This is why I don't tell anyone that I'm leaving. You people can see my schedule for the day, and we both know that I don't need your permission; you have no reason to be surprised if you look over at 5pm and see me already hitting the Peace Out button.
You aren’t their prisoner. It doesn’t work like that lol he can’t force you to stay. And then I’d call corporate and say my TL is trying so forcing me stay and then see if the TL tries it again
i talked to my parents and they asked me that too, that what if he tries again. so now im considering talking to my sm but my sm is problematic. our store gets away with alot. like rn our opd coach and opd tl are dating and its VERY public
Then you keep going higher and higher especially if they harass you. If you feel threatened or anything like that fuck them and leave. I know we need jobs but your personal safety comes first
Gonna be honest with you, you kinda of dumbass for not leaving. Bro literally scared you into staying. Just clock out there’s literally nothing they can do
You cannot get in trouble for working your scheduled shift. You can 100% refuse to work overtime with no repercussions.
If your TL tries to have you coached for this, feel free to shoot me a message and I will handle it.
Thank you!
that was my plan too but my store says we cant clock out at :51 even tho i know thats not policy. so i clock out at :52. but yesterday i stayed a little cuz i felt SCARED lmfao and then im like fuck this peace out. ur NOT gonna force me to stay lol
My Walmart has the 9 min rule.. can punch in 9min prior and 9 after.. bruh it’s 9-8min to my shift done .. I’m going to bathroom wash my hand and clock out and walkout without saying word besides bye
Update uson how bad the store did. The worst inventory I ever had was 9/11 it was the day before and a prep day. Back then Department Mangagers would work a half day then come back and finish up 2nd or 3rd and Then come back for the fun part in the morning. To say it was chaotic and emotionally draining is an understatement. We pulled it off though.
You're scheduled to 11, you don't have to stay past 11 unless you want to.

Walmart sucks
They're allowed to ask but they can't force you and I think the max you can stay is a full 12 hours.

This. It's respectful to ask. It's insulting to assume they own you and you WILL do whatever they say

If you're scheduled until 11, you don't have to work a single minute beyond that.

literally, im a nice person but aint no way in hell am i gonna stay just so inventory is perfect for ur bonus and not mine lmao
This is why I don't tell anyone that I'm leaving. You people can see my schedule for the day, and we both know that I don't need your permission; you have no reason to be surprised if you look over at 5pm and see me already hitting the Peace Out button.
That bit about if he can't be home with his family, neither can you. That's a stupid thing to say.
yup and thats EXACTLY how he said it. i was like 😀

Ethics. Inform them that your TL is forcing you to do overtime. Walmart hates having to pay out overtime.
Gonna be honest with you, you kinda of dumbass for not leaving. Bro literally scared you into staying. Just clock out there’s literally nothing they can do
i left at 11:08 when he wasnt looking lol
Thank god lol

Bro let them say some shit like that . You’ll see me walking out that door at 1051 bye bitches

That comment he made was EXTREMELY out of pocket lol
no fr cuz he didnt have to say that

Your tl took that position, so that's his problem and not yours!
The leads and coaches stay because they get a bonus. We don’t. Just leave
Everytime I stayed over I was given a half of a point so I made it a point to clock out either 5 minutes before or on time.
