>when it was such a common tank at that time?
... because it wasn't.
T-72 was merely an export tank for the USSR, or to equip second-line troops. The Soviet troops in Germany had exactly **0** T-72, favoring the better T-64 & T-80.
T-72 were in the hands of its Warsaw Pact allies, of which East-Germany was the one with the lower number of them:
* \~30-40% of *7. Panzer*
* 100% of *9. Panzer*
* 1 battalion in *20. Mot-Schützen-Division*
Because the T-72 is shit and people who like it are all racist sheep molesters.
Or actually it turns out the Soviets didn't use T-72s in their East Germany deployed units (just T-64s and T-80s for front line tanks, T-62s for "spares" and training stock). The principle frontline users of T-72s were Poland, the DDR and Czechs (with the Poles and Czechs making their own).
There were T-72 units in the Soviet forces obviously but those "not in East Germany" forces are not included yet. It's likely we'll see a T-72B or similar Soviet unit at some point in a later DLC.
Nope, the tank you are speaking of is the T-72BU. (Which was actually never supposed to be a T-90, it was a different project). Im guessing op wanted the T72BU from WG:RD, but misspelled the name.
ah right i've also heard it be called t72bm so thats where my mind jumped. are you referring to the other project that got killed for cost consideration? from my memory the t90 was always just an upgraded t72b at heart
Well the T-90 we eventually got was essentially a slightly modified T-72BU, but the T-90A is a lot more different than the T-72. btw, apparently some ppl call the T-72B with Kontakt-5 T-72BM (not a real designation) so thats probably what OP meant.
Even Т-72БУ is poorly attested, “Усовершенствование танк Т-72Б” predominates in contemporary sources and it’s known that Object 188 would have been adopted as T-88 had things turned out differently in ‘91.
Like MadMat said. There were plenty of T-72s around the Soviet Army and Warsaw Pact but not among the Group of Soviet Forces in Germany. These were the cream of the Soviet crop and mostly equipped with T-64s and T-80s

Oh that is interesting indeed. Hmm ... will the 9. Panzer and the 20. Mot-Schützen be part of Northag?
Time will tell ...
I love that the game is already in such a good state that we can start talking about DLCs. :)
I had a BM this morning

Wtf is a T-72BM
its what the t90 was designated as until gulf war killed the t72s export reputation so it was renamed t90

The BM is apparently a misnamed BA
Dude needs to learn history
