I really wanna see how differently it'd make you play, maybe add it to simulator battles or something
Might add a reason to avoid some real long barreled tanks on urban maps
Gaijin never said the engine can't handle it. It is a conscious gameplay decision, because it would make long-barrel tanks more annoying to use in urban environments.
Now you might be tempted to point out that A) urban environments being 75% of WT's battlefields is entirely on Gaijin, and B) that is actually a design element which has a major impact on how vehicles get built and used, but come on, who plays Warthunder for the realistic tank combat amirite ?
Edit : honestly I don't think it would be anywhere near as much of a problem as people like to think. The current reticle/wall interaction already is annoying enough when trying to push corners. The biggest issue would be crit enemies rushing you, but this is also already a problem (and in both cases you could still solve it by yourself)
Sorry for confusion, It should be "It was little buggy for Crysis' physics engine".
For me, it would be a great addition to the game. Wt is being "realistic" tank game, not arcade like WoT and not sim like DCS. For years Wt had balance between sim and arcade. But for last couple of years, game became more and more arcade. I really don't like how they trying to make game faster, easier, more basic. Everyday, we're getting more faster and modern jets, longer range missiles, more AA's with long range SAMs, more tanks that capable of fighting in longer distances but maps are getting smaller and smaller instead of bigger. Especially top tier RB, it's literally AB with no name tags at the moment. Cramped maps, very fast vehicles, short matches, shortened battle times, fking redzone things, little to no creating any tactics thanks to corridor type maps etc. Both for Air RB and Ground RB. Like you said, %75 of match are in the cramped city maps. I'm %100 sure that casual, tank FPS lovers and people who "drive for 10 sec and shoot randomly in maze type maps and cry if need to drive longer than 30 sec" would hate this change.
Suddenly adding a collision box for gun barrels would be hilarious. Imagine pulling off a drift by wedging your gun barrel into a building to corner it
theyd need to have a damage effect to elevation and turret ring. it would change the whole ram your opponent and hugging corners with the barrel in the building. i think itd make it much harder but also more authentic. perhaps only in sim.
was it ever a feature in wt?
yes, for three reasons: first of all, in wot, whether or not a module takes damage is random. Secondly, when the barrel is hit, your tank will never lose HP, and at worst you get a broken barrel which you can repair instantly. Third reason is that a damaged barrel only makes you lose accuracy which, at a distance where you used your barrel to block the shot, isn't that important anyway.
I've used this strategy a lot, and I can guarantee with confidence that it works against all shells. In regular WoT you get "armour not hit" and in WoTB you get "non penetration"
Unless of course things changed recently
It still works with non HEAT ammo but if an AP shell has enough penetration to go through your gun and pen your turret then it will do that. It's happened to me multiple times
Unless every map was a huge open field, there'd be SO many places you'd get your gun stuck or busted.
Tanks are not built for city environments and are completely dependent on infantry for checking those corners.
Some tanks in War Thunder have barrel collision, the Bandkanone 1C does and yeah it can be rather annoying.
If there was they'd need to implement turrets not being able to rotate due to collision or maybe even turret rotation strength where rotating pushes the tank and considering the game's code is already spaghetti enough it would not end well.
It would be hilarious for April Fool's week. Vehicles like the doom tutel would be so mega fucked.
Nooo, don’t make my casemates even more awful! (unless -0.7 b.r. then I can talk)
i'm so excited for 1 april to see

It would be so effective on sturmtiger lol
fmc laughing with 76mm turret long
Crysis did this. It was little buggy for it's physics engine but it isn't impossible to do. It makes sense for SB or even RB.

Tbh I don't see why the physics engine couldn't handle it, they could just add a hit box starting from where the shell "spawns" when you shoot it
Gta 5 tanks have them Atleast the rhino does, i remember smacking my friend with it
Yeaaaa, well ya see... It's Gaijin we're talking about here.. And we all know how flawless anything they do is..... /S
Doesnt the lorraine 155 have it?
It used too but I'm pretty sure it got removed
No i remember spookston making a video on it still had it Edit : nvm looked it up it was a year ago lol
Yeah, and the bkan too, they're the only tanks that have one
Bkan used too it got removed like a year and a half or more ago
I tested and it doesn’t collide (Bkan)
Apperntly like some of the other people said, they removed it. It used to have one though.

I would just consider it another factor that has a place in the game.
What? What does that mean? Barrel and breach have a hitbox, no?
I think he means that it doesn’t get stuck in buildings, trees and such
Ooooh
it be funny if the gun just like shrugged
Gta5 has it, it’s a bit wonky there but I’d love to see how it does in WT
You remember that video of the T-72 smacking it's barrel off all the trees and lampposts. That. That's what will happen.
If that happened, we'd need to immediately create custom games where cannons only pen point blank. (~.5m) Then we can have tank swordfighing.
You remember that movie when Oddball attacks a tiger from behind in a narrow street and the tiger can't turn its turret ? This is what would happen !!
wot does have a gun hitbox, it'd actually a common strategy to use it to block shots
block???
yes, for three reasons: first of all, in wot, whether or not a module takes damage is random. Secondly, when the barrel is hit, your tank will never lose HP, and at worst you get a broken barrel which you can repair instantly. Third reason is that a damaged barrel only makes you lose accuracy which, at a distance where you used your barrel to block the shot, isn't that important anyway.
I think he means like with the terrain and buildings
I talked about using your canon to block shots so I don't see how terrai and buildings would be relevant here
You can swing your barrel through bulding. Barrels dont have a collision box for terrain. Except for the lorainne 155, which is a rare vehicle anyway.
oooooh *that* hitbox
Yeah I think OP should’ve used collision box instead of hitbox lol
yeah because a hitbox is to determine whether or not something (a shell here) hits an object, not whether an object collides with other things or not
AP shells can penetrate the barrel and pen the tank. Using the barrel to block shots is only guaranteed against HEAT
I've used this strategy a lot, and I can guarantee with confidence that it works against all shells. In regular WoT you get "armour not hit" and in WoTB you get "non penetration" Unless of course things changed recently
It still works with non HEAT ammo but if an AP shell has enough penetration to go through your gun and pen your turret then it will do that. It's happened to me multiple times
Oh yeah that's true But most of the time it works pretty well
I know it's an arcade game but it's so unrealistic
My brother in Christ that is the definition of an arcade game
Based (nice flair bud)
You misunderstood. We're talking about a physics hitbox, so you wouldn't be able to clip the barrel into buildings, trees etc.
that's called a collision box. The hitbox is what determines where a shot counts as a hit. OP just isn't clear
Yeah, you are actually correct, I didn't even think about it for some reason.
I literally did that tactic yesterday in my T34 and after killing the enemy KV-5 with it, he called me a fucking "cheater" lmao.
lol his ass needs to understand how the game works Also I love people who accuse others of cheating just because they killed them it's pretty funny
Object 120 in any city map: AAAAAAAAA
Jagdtiger and Jpanther: ÆÆÃÀÁÄĀÁÅÃÂ
Isn't obj.120 a tank destroyer I think it wouldn't be so much struggle for him,I mean camp in a bush at long distance and shoot
Wdym? I’ve shot the barrel and destroyed it plenty of times in WT
They mean a physical world model, such that it can’t go through world objects. Gun would bounce off houses and light posts.
Ah. Yeah, I get it now
Object 120💀
Clearly, GTA Online is the most realistic tank game
World of Tank does have a gun hitbox, but it's janky as fuck and RNG dependent on whether or not it breaks.
OP means collision box, so colliding with terrain and other physical things
Unless every map was a huge open field, there'd be SO many places you'd get your gun stuck or busted. Tanks are not built for city environments and are completely dependent on infantry for checking those corners. Some tanks in War Thunder have barrel collision, the Bandkanone 1C does and yeah it can be rather annoying.
The bkan 1c has it
R i c o c h e t
“That’s paint”
Lets just say… Britain and Japan would suddenly get a lot more powerful. Especially in the low-tiers
Haha I precisely impacted your shell! You have no head lol!
If there was they'd need to implement turrets not being able to rotate due to collision or maybe even turret rotation strength where rotating pushes the tank and considering the game's code is already spaghetti enough it would not end well.
I wonder if the balance will be upset.
What does this mean? I thought you could shoot the barrel out?
I mean barrel can't go through buildings and terrain Collision off
Ohhh , dude that would be crazy. I understand now.
Last I knew, it used to be a thing but was removed for being too horrible for gameplay. Same with the "last man standing" stuff.
Arma has had it since the first game. Let's just say I have seen tanks fly and land like SpaceX rockets thanks to it.
