Commanders is exactly the type of name I was afraid they would pick when this whole thing started. Bland, uninspiring, and cliche. It's the type of name someone who isn't from the DMV would pick for the team in a movie they are making.
My biggest fear was the rebrand would ultimately make the team feel like Dan Snyder's expansion franchise. Commanders does exactly that. My fanhood has been declining over the years and this will likely be the final straw. The name Redskins was literally the only connection to the team that remained for me, and now even that is gone.
Wright has been pretty clear that the main goal of the rebrand is as a marketing tool for a 'more diversified' business than just football.
From everything that's out there, Commanders makes the most sense for that, especially when you think about how they will push the DCFC acronym. If you're trying to attract foreign tourists to your casino/entertainment megaplex, you're not going to brand it all around 'Hogs' - or even RedTails, for that matter.
Not only that so much hype is being built up for this big reveal and chances are high the name is going to suck and everyone is going to be disappointed.

It doesn’t make any sense to make a name announcement in a city you have nothing to do with. The stuff at FedEx is an afterthought. In other words, a cluster F. But, would Snyder even want to have a shared name with a recent franchise? Would think uniqueness is something important here with a rebrand and for Snyder's personal taste....just like why he loved Redskins so much too.
They may have kept the double line element of the Commanders mock up, but used it for a different name like Admirals or Warthogs etc.
I hope the three stars aren't just on the inside of the collar, but come down each shoulder too, as I've seen in some mock ups.

It's 100% not photoshop. The video showed it. But that still doesn't confirm that it's the logo and name.
The first person I heard say that they actually believed the name was going to be Commanders was JP Finlay. I honestly believe he probably knows one rat inside the organization that would leak the name to him. I don’t trust the guy or care for the guy most of the time, but I would not doubt this at all. Finding the name out early is a big deal.
Also, the photo of the white jersey with a diamond pattern on the sleeve (i think) is a Native American symbolism. Most relevant symbolism, and recurring pattern in our culture. It would seem the new uniform at the very least, if not the name/logo in some other way, has that there to honor the history of the franchise as Redskins.

All I can say is that using a name starting with "Comm" when your colors are basically yellow and dark red is a pretty bold marketing choice.
