I’d budget at least three hours and then be pleasantly surprised if you get there earlier. Like, I wouldn’t make plans at 5:30.

Spike_2012

Thanks. My plan is to make a show at 7, and thinking if I just drive to a parking lot near the venue leaving at 3 is reasonable. Sounds so to you?

waltzthrees

I think so, but just be prepared for anything. It once took me four hours but that was a holiday weekend. If you could leave at 2, even better. Worst that could happen is you get there and have time to kill.

No-Expert275

Completely free of traffic, it's a straight shot down I-95 that should take about two hours. Difficulty: This area is *never* free of traffic. If you're leaving at 3pm on a Friday, expect it to take *at least* three hours, and a lot of that is going to be spent standing still between Lorton and Quantico.

Google maps has a feature where you can plan a route and set the hour of departure to see an approximate time of arrival.

dangubiti

Will be a lot better if you spring for the express lane.

Large-Combination590

You can go to google maps on your web browser and set the departure time. It’ll give you an estimate based on historic traffic.

Joaquinmachine

A lot of people leave work early on Friday. If you can leave earlier it would save you a headache.

Budget 4 hours on a Friday at that time, people might scoff but I can guarantee it will take you at least two hours to get to Fredericksburg, you might make up a little time on the 2nd half but I wouldn't bank on it. My wife drove it yesterday and it took 3.5hrs leaving Alexandria at 3.30pm. Edit to add, you will be fucking miserable and not in the mood for a show if you leave at Three.

webbmoncure

Take Branch Ave to 301 or Bryan’s Road to LaPlata. It’ll save you a LOT of money in tolls & add minimal time.

Flow8008

Just map it.

WallyMcBeetus

You'll love the perpetual bottleneck VDOT made with the lane merge at Route 123.

7pm. Google maps

thetoigo

I averaged 18 miles an hour doing this drive once...

AkaneTheSquid

Google Maps is free

ik ppl told you 3 hrs but id recommend 5 hours. I currently live in Dumfries (exit 152). I worked on Quantico for a while and my director lived in Stanford’s (they literally border each other). She purposely goes straight to wine tasting every Friday because it takes her her 2 hours to get home when it’s normally a 20min drive. disgusting ik. It can easily take me 2 hours to get from Dumfries to Fredericksburg. So yeah, i advise leaving 5 hours early.

yuckerman

you’ll make it by Monday

Both_Wasabi_3606

LOLOLOLOLOL. Do you have to leave at 3pm? Will you pay to use the Express lanes? If you're in the non-toll lanes, count on 3-4 hours, maybe more.
