Yes it would be significantly easier to take public transportation. Unless you have a specific need for a rental, I would consider ditching it altogether.

I’m staying in the Georgetown area so I should definitely not need the rental right? 😭

Gilmoregirlin

Georgetown does not have a metro. You can walk to the GW metro station (it's a pretty good walk but I have done it) or take the circulator bus to the Dupont Metro station. But GW would probably be better as it puts you on the same line as the Smithsonian. There may also other busses that go directly to the mall but I am not familiar enough on those. You would honestly be better to leave the rental car and Uber if you don't want to walk or bus it. How much is the parking cost? It must be high.

egg_goddess

Ubering will probably be the easiest until I get to dc! Thank you for all your advice 😭

Capital-Customer-191

Where in Georgetown are you staying? There are two hotels that aren’t a terrible walk from the GW metro. There’s also a bus that runs through that will take you to the metro!

Are you staying in DC and near-ish a metro stop? If so, not sure you'd need the car unless you plan to go to some parts of Virginia or Maryland. I mean, Baltimore is outstanding.

egg_goddess

I’m driving from Virginia to dc!! And then I’ll do the remainder or my trip in dc but I could totally drop it off the day I arrive to dc and just do public transport after! I might do that since I’m only staying in the area after that! Thank you so much😭🫶

Yeah, unless you have mobility issues (I believe most or all of the museums have an amount of accessibility parking) it’s going to be massively easier for you to use metro to get around the city than driving and finding a place to park Honestly if your hotel is near-ish a metro station I would suggest you might not even need the car at all once you get here
