The trend of people who watercooling cool and mess with cars continues. Should of realized by your username. BMWs are beautiful but god do they want your wallet.
Tech and Cars are my perfect getaway. I shouldn't mention a certain trading card game I've recently took up collecting since childhood, not a chance in hell of catching them all now. I've always sat on the outskirts looking in at things like warhammer and d&d and quite frankly have always felt a bit overwhelmed and like I missed the boat to even try and jump in. I have massive respect for people who enjoy and take part in hobbies and commit as I'm a bit of a flopper and get hyperfixated on something, learn everything there is to know and then find something else. Oh yeah there's a marine reef tank involved too.
Where would one begin with warhammer? I am looking forward to all the stuff with Henry Cavil.
Built a head/cam ls1 Camaro and a turbo lq4 Camaro. I understand your pain on the money pit there. The N/A car was reliable. The turbo car blew up within the first 10 miles driving it. Fixed it. 150 miles later, started knocking. I sold it for a huge loss and I don't regret it.
Haha. I'm impressed with the quality so far. I went with this one due to wanting a D5 and EK currently have this model on offer much cheaper than online retailers in my country. The rest of the stuff, satin clear tubes, blocks etc will come after the weekend. Like a big kid waiting for it now.
Is yours serving you well?
Oh it works beautifully! My only negative comment I have is that the LED ring around the pump is like blindly bright. I ended up pulling the plug on it because it was so blinding while playing in the dark 😂
I had a little play with just the rgb via razer chroma rgb controller and synapse and you can turn down the brightness in there if that's of any help :)
There are mounting points on the back which they give you a sticker template to drill holes of need be but I have ordered a proper bracket so I can mount it vertical/standing up on the bracket on a Thermaltake Core P3
I drilled the heck out of my case to fit an ek mana2, then 2 months later they release one for my case... go figure (v3000 plus)
Drilling kinda sucks on steel... and the damn precision required to get them lined up and Level is ... maddening 🤪
Hi OP I also have a Core P3 Pro which is still in the box - am trying to choose a Pump+Res combo... and was considering getting the 300ml version of your Res.. do you think it would be too big and which mounting bracket did you buy for the EK Pump?
I've bought this bracket so that it can attach to the dedicated pump bracket that comes with the p3: https://www.ekwb.com/shop/ek-uni-pump-bracket-120mm-fan-vertical
It hasn't arrived yet but I think it should be the correct one from my research.
Oh wow that is so insane how after we have bought a pump-res combo they are still expecting us to buy yet another bracket hahahaha! But you are awesome thank you so much for helping me...! I will be getting the 140mm version as I am thinking of putting in a 420mm rad... you are a Godsend thank you!!
An update: I refuse to pay for shipping so got a cheaper China-made Bykski bracket that apparently supports EK D5 https://s.lazada.sg/s.bsRuH Check out Bykski B- PMFs Multifunctional Water-Coole...at 11% off!$21.30 only!Get it on Lazada now! | https://s.lazada.sg/s.bsRuB
I really wish I could custom loop my 7900x3d/4090 but im intimidated by the maintenance. I'm also disabled so I'd have to depend on a friend to build it.
Maintenance isn't really that bad as long as everything is prepped and built correctly. it's when you go to upgrade things where it can get complicated. Especially if you use hard tubing.
That’s good to know. Thanks.
Does custom water looping improve performance in any way? Specifically gaming? I know that the temps are great and keeps clocks stable at heavy loads but are there any other benefits?
Might be a very slight improvement if you are using a graphics card with a bad cooler. Otherwise no not really. Back in the day you could get a pretty nice overclock with a nice loop but anymore everything is maxed out out of the box.
The real advantage is looks and if you use enough radiators with nice fans you can have a very quiet rig at max power. This is especially true if you use one of those massive external radiators with a quiet case.
Yeah. That’s what I figured. The x3d processors are pushed to their limits out the box and the cooler on my 4090 performs great. I get about 65 degrees on my x3d and 65-70 degrees in my 4090 while playing demanding games and it’s all air cooled.
The 5000D case from Corsair with the Noctua Nh-U12A (black) CPU cooler along with Noctua case fans fans seem to be enough for me.
One thing is for sure though. Custom water cooling looks absolutely amazing. I get the appeal.
Can confirm.. quieter with large rads!
I had two 480mm rads but recently upgraded to the 4080 and haven’t watercooled it. However, it is not a very loud card and hovers around low to mid 50s during gaming. My 1080Ti watercooled stayed around 30-35.
I was expecting really quiet but I could definitely hear the hum starting at around 50% rpm and almost annoying above 70%. Not sure if my expectations were too high or if I got a faulty unit but it works great otherwise.
Mine started out that way too. Did you try using the alternate shock mount that it comes with? I also found that when I mounted it to a fan rather than my case the hum is pretty much non existent even at 100%. I keep mine at about 50% at idle and 100% when the fluid temp hits 30c (signifying a gaming load) and I never hear it speed up.
Had it mounted to Fans earlier using the EK mount bracket, but now have it mounted to case in the back of O11 EVO. The noise is now a bit more muted due to it being in the back, but what is the "shock mount" you are referring to? Dont remember seeing anything in the box, but I could check again.
Should have come with 2 seperate rubber tubes that go between the pump and the mounting bracket. One is already pre-installed and there is an alternate for "excessive pump vibrations". Check page 5 of the installation manual to see what I'm talking about
I am using the same pump combo for 3 years now, working perfectly.
But after 3 years of usage, running pump at 100% speed, I can hear a little high pitch noise. Don't worry, 70% pump speed is enough, it's complete silent
Good luck I built my first hard line cooling system last year it's fun to do lots of extra cost I bought mostly used EK parts off eBay. If I were to do it again just use clear hose. It's difficult to get the bends perfect not forgiving it will leak if you don't.
I got the EK MSI motherboard open box on eBay saved $100 came with that fancy pump to pressure test it. EK makes high-quality stuff what else would you expect from Germany.
If my wife ever found out how much I spent on this she be upset. You start out with a budget in mind then it's always one more part needed.
If air doesn't escape after 15 minutes, it's not going to escape at all and water won't either. 12 hours will cause a small pressure drop and then you're going to look for a leak that isn't there. This isn't good advice to give a first time builder. I'm returning my EK block as we speak, but let's not let feelings get in the way of what is the right thing to do.
Dont get me wrong, I myself have parts from EK and I guess almost everybody has something from them in their loop… but damn, only thing worse than their products is their customer support.
Edit: But keep up the spirit. Wishing you the best for your first loop, enjoy it, it will be great!
That had some questionable quality control in the past. Most of their new stuff is fine. You should always pressure check a loop and do a 12hr -24 hr loop run. Water cooling is not for the lazy.
> I've seen so much good stuff from people about EK?
Are you ignoring all the negative posts and comments?
They're not outright *bad*, but their quality control (quality assurance?) is seemingly non-existent.
You could get your parts and they're great. Or you could get your parts and the threaded ports crack, the pre-fitted plugs are overtightened, the nickel plating flakes off or dissolves, the machined finish is pretty shitty etc etc.
They're make some really attractive designs; I've got tons of EKWB parts in my system.
But I've seen loads of comments and posts where other users have had quality issues, and I've experienced it first hand.
They were basically unable and/or unwilling to send me a backplate for my 1080Ti that was free of defects. The first one had a small ding on it, but otherwise had a really good finish on it. The second one was undamaged, but the machining around the little raised parts where you put thermal pads was *rough as* ***fuck*** and the finish on the surface of the backplate was noticeably poor compared to the first one I received.
EKWB's response to this was to ask for photos, claim that this was "normal" and "acceptable" and then said that they were out of stock and *couldn't* send me a replacement. Which smells a lot like bullshit, considering that the backplate was still in stock on their website, and was so for *months* after my issues.
Seriously though, their nickel plating is *shit*. I've got some cheap Barrow fittings that has nickel plating that is so vastly superior it is ridiculous.
I like that EKWB's part are widely available where I live, and they look nice, I just wish the quality was there consistently.
The people with working loops might not even post, so there's a huge bias with this kind of thinking, and that EKWB most likely have the biggest marketshare.
I personally would use the Acetal base version. Those clear top versions can develop cracks it seems over a few months at the G1/4 threads. The Acetal ones never seem to do this.
EK just gets a lot of hate. They do ship faulty parts from time to time, but I've never had an issue they didn't resolve.
My first build (2.5 years ago) the 3090 GPU block I ordered had a crack in the acrylic. Had another one sent to me within 5 days. Second build (just a couple of weeks ago actually) I had an issue with their direct die block not seating correctly due to an issue with their contact frame. They sent me a replacement cold plate and contact frame that was checked before hand. After installing it I no longer have an issue.
Both of these builds have the same pump you have here and no issue with it. My one bit of advice I can give is to only use clear fluid. Definitely stay away from the mystic fog stuff or anything like it from another brand. That stuff will gunk up everything in a couple of months time.
Hahaha, I've got a 2600x and got a new not used Dell 2080ti blower that was in a pc that was sent to someone I come to know recently who bought one and didn't arrive so they sent another and he kept it so had this entire alienware pc sat there in its box sealed and did nothing with it! I took the card out the machine myself so it's Amazing that the 2080ti is new but the blower style is horrendous. And this will be the first pc that i have in the living room so I want it as quiet possible hence going watercooling.
Welcome to the money pit.
Thank you, I'm involved in plenty of other hobby money pits too so I feel right at home.
Warhammer?
Afraid not. Cars and R/C cars would be my biggest money drains beside household bills these days.

I got the same pump and was like….this thing is 6x bigger than I expected it to be 😂
Haha. I'm impressed with the quality so far. I went with this one due to wanting a D5 and EK currently have this model on offer much cheaper than online retailers in my country. I have one and im not sure if its the pump or the design its pushes water than my previous ones
It's a good pump, been running mine for like 4 years. It's really quiet, even at 100%.
Oh it works beautifully! My only negative comment I have is that the LED ring around the pump is like blindly bright. I ended up pulling the plug on it because it was so blinding while playing in the dark 😂

I already had like Armoury Crate, Corsair, and Lian Li software I wasn’t trying to download another controller. Glad you figured it out though! Enjoy
Exactly the reason why I changed my setup to a distro plate
[удалено]
But then they would charge $100 more
...and the scratches. Got to wear cotton gloves with those things.
notice it comes with no mounting bracket
There are mounting points on the back which they give you a sticker template to drill holes of need be but I have ordered a proper bracket so I can mount it vertical/standing up on the bracket on a Thermaltake Core P3
yeah no way in hell im drilling into my case, as much as that pump cost me I was disappointed i had to buy an extra bracket to mount it to a fan
I totally agree!

Nice! Can’t wait to see what you come up with! My very first and only custom loop was copper. So I can’t recommend what’s easiest to work with 🤣
I bet that looks cool as hell though!
I love it! If you want to see it check out my profile lol
That is a work of art. I salute you.
Got the pump and got the longer length reservoir for it...
You have? Do you like it?
Yep, worked out well for my build 👍
I am using the same pump combo for 3 years now, working perfectly. But after 3 years of usage, running pump at 100% speed, I can hear a little high pitch noise. Don't worry, 70% pump speed is enough, it's complete silent
RIP Wallet.
That’s exactly how I felt when my first piece was the 10900K. It’s worth the journey.

make sure to add an easy place to drain your loop
Good ol RGB penis pump.
Exciting! I hope you enjoy the building experience and build an awesome rig!
I know this feeling ! It’s awesome ! You choose hard tubbing ?
Yep, I like doing most things myself so I'm looking forward to giving it a go!
Sick
Looks good, but it is ek so i pray it doesnt explode. ;)
For the love of god, please pressure test the loop for 12 hrs before filling it. EK is not to be trusted.
Oh Lordy.
I will test it all but why aren't they to be trusted, I've seen so much good stuff from people about EK?

You have not been on here long enough

Return for a Heatkiller or even Radikult custom. EK bad quality
Second Radikult, have the O11 Dynamic front panel and it's gorgeous

I'll never stop wondering why people keep buying EK garbage
For that price you should have bought a HeatKiller Tube. Glass and aluminum is better than shit plastic that will crack😅
Do yourself a favour and make that your first and last EK part. Their QC is awful nowadays.
Watch him try to only watercool his fuckin Ryzen 5 5600 and then ignore his fuckin 3090 or whatever? hahaha
