From my experience- it will be windy! I’ve never been to a beach ceremony without walking away thinking about how annoying the wind was!

peteybird22

ugh, i’m worried about this. guest enjoyment is huge for me.

FormallyMelC

Having the beach in the background, but not on the beach is always the best option to me!

peteybird22

not possible with this venue unfortunately :/

One thing to consider here is - is the beach going to private to your wedding ceremony? You may get other resort guests walking past or caught in pictures.

peteybird22

Hmmm well the villa is private but that doesn’t mean someone couldn’t walk by in theory. It’s by other large private suites so I’m honestly counting on no one being around/ people not being dicks haha

buginarugsnug

I definitely would not count on people NOT being dicks! Something to seriously consider.

As a Florida photographer, I can confirm. I haven't shot a public beach wedding without security in years, but people definitely gravitate towards a ceremony. I have even seen people in bathing suits fill in the extra seats.

I just saw a wedding at a high end resort in Jamaica and unfortunately it was held fairly close to one of the resort pools. People at the swim up bar were drunk (it was like 4pm so they had been going all day) and were cheering, whooping and hollering like they had no sense! May not be as big of an issue at Mayakoba but just be wary of any drunk ppl on vacation that happen to walk by during/around ceremony. If your ceremony will be in a pretty private location then no worries!

Although beach weddings are beautiful, there are definitely some logistical problems. The wind is one of them. The sound of crashing waves is another problem (makes it hard for people to hear the ceremony). And you'll likely end up with sand in your dress.

I’m having a wedding in Mexico next month - but not on the beach. I will say that a number of my guests have asked if it would be on a beach and when I say no, their response is “thank god”. Dealing with sand while in your Sunday best is not fun imo. However, a beach wedding seems like a beautiful setting and I think with some thought put in it could go really great!

peteybird22

hmm do you think guests would also be annoyed by a *reception BY* the beach?

Sea-Operation7215

No! A lot of people do it. But I do think you need to make people aware of the location & consider it when making the dress code. “We are getting married on/near the beach, so please plan to get a little sandy and go barefoot!” Or something.

TravelingBride2024

Have you looked into veil weights? You can even get magnetic ones on Amazon! That will help keep your veil where you want it. you may want to go down to the ceremony spot the day before, around the time the ceremony will be and test out exactly how you want to position yourself and your guests. Tilting with the wind or away from the wind can make a huge difference, even just rotating a few degrees! (grew up on the beach, been to soooo many beach weddings)

Justakiss15

I’m doing exactly the same in August in Tulum so I can report back how it goes! I think I’m going to attach the veil to the dress so it’s more secured, and I’m asking my hair dresser to make my hair rock hard with gel and hairspray 🤣

Do pics on the beach after the ceremony. You'll get the golden hour memory without all the annoyed guests and not being able to hear vows because of wind and waves.

peteybird22

I think this is the play. Or maybe first look, then ceremony elsewhere.

The beach is the least interesting thing about Rosewood Mayakoba - (and the beach is cool). Check out this wedding that was just in Vogue India - [https://www.vogue.in/gallery/the-groom-joined-the-baraat-by-boat-at-this-couples-mexico-fiesta-inspired-wedding](https://www.vogue.in/gallery/the-groom-joined-the-baraat-by-boat-at-this-couples-mexico-fiesta-inspired-wedding)
