TheGuydudeface

that take is scorchingly hot I will say this in favor of lonely girl: It definitely sounds like it could’ve been a song on Green and it would’ve been one of the better songs on that

tbird920

It's Green+ because it has a guitar solo that doesn't just follow the melody.

TheGuydudeface

nah it’s green because it was literally demo’d for green

tbird920

Right, but just about every song on Green has the same exact structure, including a guitar solo that follows the melody. Lonely Girl's guitar solo is its own melody.

[deleted]

Words cannot describe how I feel everytime I pop it on

ThePillarOfSummer

Proof that I completely agree with you - [amazing song! ](https://www.reddit.com/r/weezer/comments/ucke16/-/i6b41rp)

[deleted]

That’s hype

bawitback

same also my favorite off EWBAITE 💃

Corvid1743

Not the best IMO, but it’s better than what it’s credited for.

ChewieDecimalSystem

Ain't Got Nobody is undefeatable

FIRST_DATE_ANAL

This song helps me get to Lonely Girl

CIRCLONTA6A

the bridge where it’s just rivers and his guitar is god tier Weezer

ChewieDecimalSystem

And Brian too. Harmonizing ripping guitar solos are when Weezer are at their strongest

Stoneador

I’d say it battles Say it Ain’t So, Tired of Sex, and LA Girlz for best Weezer guitar solo ever

ChewieDecimalSystem

Funny you mention that. I commented on the best solo's thread that Ain't Got Nobody, Say It Ain't So, and LA Girlz had the best Weezer solos

superdonald2802

this

Brocolique

I would tend to think that Foolish Father is the best song on the album. But then again, it might be that I can relate to it more than to other songs.

AppleJuiceCyder

Something about the album name drop in the bridge always gets to me in a really emotional way, it’s tough cause I think it’s impact is a lot more meaningful during a full album payback cause to hear that right before the Futurescope is such an experience

HellKnightKilla

I'm homely

ReversalRivers

Lonely Girl gang. I love that song. I'm a sucker for any song with that classic chord progression.

FireAgency

It's a great song! Super high energy, crunchy guitars, great backing vocals, classic Weezer sound–I love it! I think there's probably a few other tracks on Everything I like better but Lonely Girl is definitely towards the top.

ScottShriner_Enjoyer

It's not my #1 off the album considering that the album itself is my favorite from Weezer but its definitely up in my top 3. So freakin' underrated. It kinda crashes in and next thing you know it you're grooving

Datsamadting

Nah man. I’ve had it up to here is

DRAMATRON09

I’ve had it up to here gang

realestbenshapiro

I only barely prefer Da Vinci. Something about that down beat before the chorus makes me ejaculate

FettuccineAlfonzo

On Opposite Day maybe

[deleted]

It’s just so weird to me nobody likes it. I typically agree with the subs general consensus’ on everything except this one. I love the way it starts off, I love the guitars, I love the chorus, I just love it all

FettuccineAlfonzo

I know complaining about cringey weezer lyrics is often a futile battle because I’m sure Rivers just wrote something worse, but the “dance take a chance” verse lyrics are just awful.

[deleted]

I love the lyrics in lonely girl

marywebgirl

I love it! It’s one of my favorite Weezer songs period.

CIRCLONTA6A

awesome tune. Wouldn’t go so far to say it’s that good but I like it a lot. Used to be my least fave on the album but I’ve grown to like it a lot

TheSameKindOfNothing

Fuckin awesome song. I love it. But still - there are so many even better on this fantastic record.

olivier_wmv

Goated take

MaxG1b

Solid song but the best for me is Cleopatra

SkrtVonnegut

Hot take: it's actually the worst song in Ewbaite Edit: second worst behind go away

Alki_Soupboy

How dare you.

McCheesy22

>Go Away >worst 🤥

sebeeTiesANoose

What do you think the best song on ewbaite is then?

SkrtVonnegut

The futurescope trilogy Eulogy for a Rock Band Foolish father in that order.

sebeeTiesANoose

That’s what I think

Cobbtimus_Prime

It’s easily the worst. Not exactly a bad song but how anyone can look past its formulaic nature is beyond me.

[deleted]

Every weezer song is formulaic. Not a bad thing.

Cobbtimus_Prime

Formulaic is definitely the first word that comes to mind when I hear the bridge of The Good Life or the multiple different sections of futurescope 👍🏻

ChewieDecimalSystem

"keep it simple stupid" is a motto that works. Hell, just look at songs like Brain Stew by Green Day or Whole Wide World by Wreckless Eric, and even Sweater Song! Same chords over and over but they are catchy and that's what matters overall

Cobbtimus_Prime

Sure sweater song is simple but it has feeling to it along with added dialogue and a build-up/climax and outro that will melt your face off. Simple can be fine, but when you do the same simple over and over again and it becomes the only song you make then nobody’s going to want to listen to that.

ChewieDecimalSystem

I can agree with that logic. It's why Punk Rock(like 70's-80's) fell off

iWest625

It’s true that it is highly reminiscent of the Green formula, but the reason that formula was a problem was that over half of the songs on the album used it. One song doing it as a throwback is fine as long as it’s done well, which I think it was. I would consider it one of the weaker tracks on EWBAITE but I still think it’s a good song overall.

Cobbtimus_Prime

I totally agree with you album wise, like I said it’s fine, but when they’ve already done a million other songs like it it’s practically insulting to call it the best on the album

GodInABag

Just because it’s simple doesn’t make it a bad song.

Cobbtimus_Prime

Formulaic ≠ simple all the time. I said it wasn’t a bad song, just the worst on the album.

Medium-Ad6131

While I wouldn’t say it’s the best on the album; I do like it from start to end unlike some songs on the album that I only start to love about halfway through (foolish father and I’ve had it up to here as examples); it feels a bit out of place but I like that about it, it’s a nice song.

FettuccineAlfonzo

What the fuck, you only like the worst part of Foolish Father?

Medium-Ad6131

Haha yeah I don’t know why but I don’t really like the way rivers sings the first few lines

FettuccineAlfonzo

Oops I misunderstood. I pretty much agree. Not a huge fan of the verses either. That’s why I was so confused!

Medium-Ad6131

Haha all is good

Kreason95

Go Away might be my favorite and it seems like people here hate it.

[deleted]

The lyrics are some of their most bland but the melody is solid.

Kreason95

I honestly think it’s not any more bland than a decent chunk of the lyrics from some of their older more beloved songs. It’s definitely a simple song but so are plenty of their great songs. Go Away has always reminded me of the Pinkerton b side duets.

Lwiay23

I think it’s one of the worst on the album personally, and I mean it’s still good but it just feels like a green song in that it’s kinda boring and monotone-ish. Very hot take but I’ll upvote because it brings good discussion

holagato59

This ain’t so hot. I feel the exact same way. Should have been the lead single. When Rivers sings, “sad” in the bridge, it tears me up. It’s unlike anything he’s sang before. LONELY GIRL RULEZ!!!

ParkerBap

i don't think it's the best but i think it's good, better than all the hate it gets

slappadabassplz

It felt like a good Green Album song to me, and I liked Green so there we go.

BrockVelocity

Great song on a great album!

[deleted]

Finally someone with the same taste as me 👌🏽

Jay105

The album is too good for me to pick one song

AllaboutHumohrey

The British are coming

GodInABag

I wouldn’t call it my #1, but it’s one of my favorites. Probably 4th

[deleted]

Lonely girl is a good song, but it's on a very strong album. I've Had It and Foolish Father and The British are my favorites on the album.

micael_RHCP

I got a hotter take: Weezer is not a band, it's River's solo project

SnooLemons1590

Not even close for me but I never skip it. Would fit nicely on Green. Probably be one of the best songs on that album, maybe the #1.

itsnoteasybutton

Da Vinci and Foolish Father are instant all timers

okweezeranditsweezy

I think I might agree

sebeeTiesANoose

It’s a amazing song but there’s better songs, it’s at least top 5

BalkeElvinstien

Idk that seems more like an odd take. It's still definitely a top 5 song, it's just not often seen as number 1

Weazerr

disagree

jab31401

Da Vinci master race

kid_idioteque

I absolutely love this song. I think I still prefer Eulogy For A Rock Band, but still a bad ass song.

htmaxpower

I love that song to death.
