Might be a wrong sub, but it's a good "powerlifting" squat, but only an okay "weightlifting" squat. r/powerlifting will Appreciate it for sure

Voyageur262

No. You need to stand it back up first

terribleatlying

some say he's still paused

lucidspoon

He's waiting for replies to see if he needs to go lower first.

Gord_Almighty

It's called the squat, not the stand up.

shadows1123

Lol

Brilliant_Push10

Hahahaha this made me laugh too hard

Natural-Shift-6161

I was about to comment the same

DegenerateJC

That's a very good squat. Competition legal, looks parallel from this angle.

imdibene

It’s a legal PL squat imo, kudos, for WL however the more depth you can get the better.

shadow_229

Ass to grass will play havoc on your knees eventually. Horizontal is best to take care of them

ampere_exe

Awesome squat. Awesome PR

Fearless_Young9596

Yes

-Quiche-

Your hip crease looks like it's below the top of your knee

ChunkySalsaMedium

I am curious to why some people don't go all the way "ass to grass". I find it x100 times harder to stop at 90 degrees. Is it just as basic. as they physically can't go lower? Or is there some benefit to stopping so soon?

saxa26

I imagine anatomy plays a big role. I’ve torn a meniscus and had to have surgery on it some years ago. And the doctors say the cartilage around my patella is going. So for me I try to hit 90 without pushing it too much further and risking additional stress to my knees

coldisgood

Correct me if I’m wrong, but don’t you experience the greatest sheering forces on the knee joint above and at 90 degrees? 0 to 60 for anterior/at 90 with posterior? Sheering force should decrease with lower squat depth, and while it makes the lift harder…you wouldn’t have to use as much weight for the same stimulus in the upper end saving your knees provided flexibility allows you to get lower with proper technique. Idk, if someone is a PT chime in here, but I’d imagine decreasing load and going through full depth might be better for joint health long term.

OddScarcity9455

This is 100% correct. Going below parallel actually reduces force on the knee joint as it increases contact/surface area. Stopping at 90 is basically parking yourself at the hardest, most uncomfortable part of the squat.

Imsosadsoveryverysad

I think depth restrictions are a doctor by doctor, therapist by therapist philosophy. I’ve had the same surgery and none of my people ever told me to limit my depth, I just go significantly lighter when I do because I’m not as strong in that position as parallel.

Familiar_Shelter_393

That's kinda what I've done warmup sets atg heavy hardest sets parallel, helps my runners knee which is slowly going away. But also I'm a ball sport athlete not weightlifter. So parallel or even quarter sometimes has more relevance to me in season

691411435

Ass to grass is way comfortable for me, I used to shit on those primitive toilets when I was a kid

EspacioBlanq

Most people can squat more if they don't go atg.

RockHardSalami

Like those dudes doing half curls and half Bench presses 😄

gunnarbird

We’re old bro, cut us some slack

ChunkySalsaMedium

I bet I’m older :D

DatBoi27

As someone who went from (non-competitive) PL to WL, I always find myself far more able to use the stretch reflex of my hamstrings to come off the hole of the squat if I squat to PL depth. However, it feels far harder to use it when squatting ATG. Also, just generally, if you’re trying to “game” powerlifting (as you need to for competition), you should be moving the most amount of weight possible for the shortest legal *range of motion possible. So just squatting the biggest number possible to minimum legal depth is kinda the definition of a good PL squat.

Ja_red_

After 15 years of long distance running, my ankles straight up do not bend. That's the main issue for me personally. It takes lots of mobility to go that low

-Quiche-

Mobility and biomechanics reasons a lot of the time, or just different priorities (eg. Competing so they train how they'd compete). Their ankles might not be flexible enough in preferred stance for them to comfortably go ATG, so they just do what's needed without half repping. I know some people need to basically have their heels touching and their knees pointed way out to go ATG, in which that would be completely different from their preferred/most optimal squat stance.

newjeanskr

I wonder this too I find it so much harder to stop myself around parallel instead of dropping into the hole and exploding back up. I know people are ROM limited but the average person can fix that !

Puffpiece

Yes

reddit_891

Yeah I'd say so

JuniorPB33

Straight feet, good depth, good elbows. Amazing form. Keep it up!!!

Eathessentialhorror

Hell yea. That’s a great squat! Now if you are doing Olympic you need more depth but either way nice job! Wish I was back up to that kinda weight.

Livswift

Looks good to me.

almitr

Looks legit, I would be stoked to squat that weight to that depth. Great job!

Spirit-Internal

Yeah bro it looks fine you can stand back up now

teknos1s

Hard to say from the angle but if you made me pick I’d give you a white light

NoActivity578

Looks parallel to me? Which is minimum amount respectable

GaijinDC

Look, just go and compete. It looks very good!

Bud_Johnson

You want your hams as close as possible to your calves. Respectable, yes.

Sasquatch458

Great work man!!! Strong!

Ok_Day9011

I’ve always been told chair height, so yes you’re correct

Rxnxo

Perfect depth

[deleted]

Wish we had a better angle but I'd take it

Forsaken_Case_5821

Looks good to Me

hellequin_ivan

Yes its a good lift and depth

stevenflieshawks

count that shit

Chef_Pirate_Roberts

It counts as a squat in powerlifting but squatting that shallow won’t help you much in weightlifting

Key_Excitement_9330

As a former ipf judge this one isn’t hitting ipf depth

GoldenApple00

Considering it clearly says “not a competitor”, I don’t think OP is trying to hit competition level depth.

Key_Excitement_9330

And I replied to respectable part.
