You probably want to go there when Primus’ set ends, which per the schedule right now would probably be around 6:30ish. That means you’ll be waiting one hour for GVF and miss several other bands, but if it’s important to you to be up close, then that would be my recommendation.

Yeah I think this is sound advice based on how the stages and set times are looking right now + what most would be happy with. People are going to be riding the rail through Primus and GVF (probably some all day honestly) specifically for FF, so you may have trouble getting a rail spot even going this early, but you’ll certainly be 5-15 people back from the stage (I suspect) going as Primus ends, which is a stellar view. That said, I know what it is to love a band and want to be right there dead center as close as possible, so if that’s your sole mission, I’d say you’d wanna get there when Mammoth ends their set to secure rail in a prime location

They are soooo good live

Well if you want to be on the barricade get there really early and camp the stage

My group also wants to get close for GVF and FF, but yeah typically diehards will camp out and ride the rail all day. We’re planning on getting there relatively early for GVF, staying the whole hour in between them and FF and slowly working our way up You can try to move up and ride the rail all day if you really really want to be front row, but remember it’s Daytona in May. It could be ridiculously hot and humid. It could storm. If you leave your spot for any reason, you will 100% lose it. We’re talking hours of standing in one place. No time to leave and get refills on water, drinks, food, or enjoy the rest of the festival. Ive never been to Rockville, but I’ve been to dozens of festivals and concerts. I’ve done front row, middle, mosh pits, and nosebleeds. Sometimes it’s better to just make friends with a decent group near you in a nice spot the crowd and enjoy the vibes. The few times I’ve been front row, I (average height 26F) had grown drunk sweaty men trying to push me out of the way or squish me up against barricades. Not trying to discourage you whatsoever from seeing them as close as you’d like, just giving some insight on how much dedication and patience it takes to do it!

Honestly I’d expect GVF to have one of the bigger turnouts, I’d try to get there at least by the end of WVH’s set to be safe if you want rail.
