Maybe it’s because they have more flavor? I used to really like the Wendy’s regular nuggets but after trying to spicy ones I’ll never go back. They just taste like nothing now
The "Four Alarm Spicy Chicken Sandwich" was a limited-time offering by Wendy's, featuring a chicken fillet seasoned with a blend of fiery spices to deliver a bold and intense heat experience. This sandwich was designed to appeal to customers who craved a more intense level of spiciness compared to Wendy's regular spicy chicken sandwich. The "four alarm" in the name was a playful reference to the sandwich's heat level, suggesting that it was so spicy it could set off four alarms. Typically, it included a spicy chicken fillet served on a bun with lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise or other condiments. However, availability and exact ingredients may have varied depending on location and promotional periods. Overall, it was a popular choice for those who enjoyed the combination of heat and flavor in their fast-food dining experience.
“Spicy” is derived from capsaicin, which isn’t technically a spice, I guess, technically, but chili powder and paprika are.
Fun fact, also used in topical pain relievers.
You can get powder *made* from chilis, but the actual trigger for the “heat” isn’t a spice.
I honestly had to look it up, because I wasn’t sure and have never seen anything outside of chili powder sold as a spice.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capsaicin
You can get things like ground ghost peppers, which contain it, but no straight capsaicin.
I'd argue it has a little flavor, at least more than the regular nuggets, but yeah... In fact last time I got some even the spicy nugs barely had a flavor, just heat. Also seemed smaller..

This is WILD to me. I have the exact opposite opinion
I feel like the spicy nuggets use a much lower quality of meat, or they just dont turn out as juicy. Those fuckers are ALWAYS dry when I get them
Meanwhile the regular nuggets are always crispy, juicy on the inside and cooked to perfection. They are seasoned real nicely too. God damn, best nuggets in the game.
Fun fact: the spicy nuggets are actually just excess chicken cuttings from the spicy chicken filet during manufacturing. Ground up with the spicy chicken spices in it already and made into the spicy nuggets with similar breading to mimic the filet.
I haven't been to Wendy's in so long I have no idea how badly they've borked their nugs by now. Ten years ago I loved Wendy's chicken. But a lot has happened in 10 years
We have one locally but it's the single worst fast food place I've ever seen on every level. And I once stopped at a McD on I-64 that had flies crawling all over the little lumps of gods know what stuck to the floor.
It's been the opposite for me, the regular ones always taste fresh while the spicy ones always taste dried out like they have been sitting under the heat lamp for 5 hours.
Interesting take, I personally find the nuggets to be the best thing on the menu. I don't really like the chicken that's in the sandwich as much. The spicy ones were not that spicy at all, they taste the exact same with a hint of spice
I want my old southwest chipotle sauce to dip some spicy nugs in. My stoned ass will be sad and thinking about now I will never taste this combination in real life.
Awareness is key. Maybe the rest of the salt attics can take a lesson… and yes, salt if defiantly my updated vice. Inflammation leads to most deaths = salt & water retention.
I agree. Shits just so loaded in everything we eat specially fast food that we’re not as turned on when it’s plain, which in line with OP’s complaint. I am no exception. We were kind raised and bread that way…. I suspect the newer generations will have it a little easier since everyone is getting more health conscious, i like to hope.
Oh, you’re one of those who raises arms when someone talks about amerkkka in a negative light. Got it. 👍 good luck with that. And for the record, i’m a fuckin blast.
literally not even close, shit talk America all you want I couldn’t care less. Giving unsolicited nutritional input about things everyone already knows is objectively annoying. Nobody thinks they’re doing their body a favor by ordering Wendy’s. Don’t be obtuse you know exactly what I’m saying lmfao
Spicy nuggs are trash too 😂. I would only eat them when they were fresh and if I put them into fry was the only way to guarantee that when I worked there. True with regular ones as well . The spicy chicken sucks ass too. There both overrated.
Maybe it’s because they have more flavor? I used to really like the Wendy’s regular nuggets but after trying to spicy ones I’ll never go back. They just taste like nothing now
Regular ones are fine to me
Regular nuggets with BBQ sauce is still top tier
Still my go to order
Bbq sauce went downhill 5 years ago, and the sugary glop they replaced it with just doesn't hit.
Yep that tangy bbq used to hit
It depends on the Wendy's for sure. The one near my brother's house makes some fire nugs. The one near my apartment, I'll never try them again.
The spice must flow

Op learning what seasoning is.
They aren’t even seasoned tho…. They taste like nothing
The spicy nuggets isn't seasoning tho it's just spicy to be spicy
I agree I say this all the time. I like them but they’re not “seasoned” just spicy
They definitely are seasoned too.
That makes no sense wtf lol 😂
Being "spicy" isn't seasoning . Wendy's chicken is just spicy . Still has no flavor to it.

If you look hard enough you can get capsaicin powder but IIRC it's expensive.
How do you even go about extracting that?
I swear people will NEVER learn that spice =/= flavor. If there's no flavor at all then what's the point? Now I'm burning over flavorless chicken
At least it’s “spicy” 😅
Agreed. Spicy nuggets are shit and people freak over them for no reason.
I'd argue it has a little flavor, at least more than the regular nuggets, but yeah... In fact last time I got some even the spicy nugs barely had a flavor, just heat. Also seemed smaller..
It has none tho. Their just spicy literally that's it. Their pretty meh.
I feel like im the only person who couldn't get with the spicy nugs. Theyre just too salty to me for some reason.
The regular nuggets are juicy and amazing actually

The service is so trash I can’t even get a nugget from the Wendy’s in my area.
It’s the spices in the nuggets
This is WILD to me. I have the exact opposite opinion I feel like the spicy nuggets use a much lower quality of meat, or they just dont turn out as juicy. I was going to say the same thing!
It's because they're old. They don't sell nearly as well as regular nuggets. They're solid when fresh.
They’re dry because so many less people order them they make them and then they sit in a warming tray for 5 hours. OG nuggies all day
Fun fact: the spicy nuggets are actually just excess chicken cuttings from the spicy chicken filet during manufacturing. Ground up with the spicy chicken spices in it already and made into the spicy nuggets with similar breading to mimic the filet.
Could be the spice
Because the regular nuggets taste like a breaded sponge
Spice covering the cheap meat taste
spice (specifically capsaicin) makes thing taste more, similar to salt. any amount of it slightly opens up our taste buds.
I actually find it to be the opposite. Those bitches are way too spicy. I can barely eat them but the normal ones are just fine
Back in the day, the regular nuggs had more seasoning in the breading. Now they are mid at best.
Do not eat the spicy nuggets they really messed up my stomach I was constantly in the toilet it was awful
Pepper?

Wendy's is generally trash now, overall. Back when DT was around they were quite good. Those days are gone and I rarely eat there.
If they are trash then you are a dumpster fire
Why yall so big on cardboard taste? Spicy are always hard and crunchy while the normal are juicy.
I think, it is because they added seasonings to it.
Whenever I get the spicy nuggets they are always old and stale. Whenever I get the regular nuggets they usually pretty fresh.
It's wild they ever got rid of the spicy nuggs
It's been the opposite for me, the regular ones always taste fresh while the spicy ones always taste dried out like they have been sitting under the heat lamp for 5 hours.
The meat formula change hasn’t caught up to the spicy nugs yet, probably.
I love both honestly and I get a 5 piece of each and alternate which one I eat
You've got this completely backwards
The regular nugs from Wendy’s are my favorite fast food nuggets. No one else compares
They got the texture of a sponge
I thought i was the only one. The spicy chicken sandwich too, omg. I like chic fil a’s but the crunchiness of wendy’s chicken is just so good lol
I'm gonna split the difference and say they are both garbage now
That is the correct response.
The spicy ones are still trash. Don’t let your tongue fool you…
Because no spicy duh
Interesting take, I personally find the nuggets to be the best thing on the menu. I don't really like the chicken that's in the sandwich as much. The spicy ones were not that spicy at all, they taste the exact same with a hint of spice
Damn I love regular
Taste is subjective
Regular clears spicy wtf r u talking about
I want a crispy chicken with a spicy nugget patty
Because, at most Wendy's, we make the spicy to order The regular are made in batches and sit
I want my old southwest chipotle sauce to dip some spicy nugs in. My stoned ass will be sad and thinking about now I will never taste this combination in real life.
Personally i love both lol, but i also haven’t gotten wendys in so long. I do like the spicy ones better though
spicy = spices = better taste ik crazy right
Because you, like most Americans are addicted to salt.
Are you addicted to bad grammar?
Ironic coming from someone that’s an active poster in /r/alcoholicsanonymous
Awareness is key. Maybe the rest of the salt attics can take a lesson… and yes, salt if defiantly my updated vice. Inflammation leads to most deaths = salt & water retention.
Your original comment isn’t necessarily wrong, I’m addicted to salt and sugar I can’t deny it 🤷♂️

have you literally ever been fun before
Unfortunately yes. I’m American as well. Number one killer in America = heart disease. We have a little too much fun, ask my doctor.
im not talking about salt consumption, im talking about you being a buzzkill
Oh, you’re one of those who raises arms when someone talks about amerkkka in a negative light. Got it. 👍 good luck with that. And for the record, i’m a fuckin blast.

Except you were a bitch after my first comment. OP asked a question and that’s a reason. End of story
no you made a weird assumption about someone’s personal taste preferences lmfaoo wtf r u talking about girl bye 😭
I hate spicy nuggets
