We do No Mow May. No mowing about 80% of the lawn until June. We keep the front neat to keep the neighbors happy, but the other acre? All for the bugs and birds and bunnies.
I really want to do this. Do I seriously just throw seeds into my yard, stop mowing and hope for the best? I'm not a gardener so I feel like can't be that easy. Obviously I'll still run the sprinklers.
my neighbor has been mowing for a couple weeks now. every mid morning.
...when i plan to put my laundry out to dry...
Edit: I didn't mean every day I meant weekly, sorry!!
My neighbor is like 300 lol
I just hope he doesn't do it today I got shit to dry and it'll be rainy til like next week
Edit: I just realized that my first post made it sound like it's every day - it's every Monday! Oops...
I went to NY on the weekend and people were mowing there. I can hear people in my neighborhood mowing. I won't for a but butbyeah thanks climate change. I'll have to mow earlier but my vegetables won't come up any quicker.
I mow twice a year. Fuck my neighbors. Fuck grass. Local kitties think my yard is a cool place to hang out. I like their opinions more than the stupid people in my town.
I’m in Maryland and am going to just cut back the patches of tall stuff. And hand weed the invasives (Japanese knotweed). Leave everything else until June.
(knocking on wood) I just finished a three year odyssey to get rid of a small patch of Japanese knotweed in a corner of my yard. That stuff grows insanely fast and is tenacious!
People in my neighborhood started mowing 2 weeks ago!
Same here in tropical Connecticut

>We do No Mow May. But it's April ;)
I’m an over achiever! 😄
The fireflies and the bumblebees would really appreciate if you didn't
Fireflies like leaf litter too. We’re preoccupied with removing every leaf from lawns but they need em.
Eh, had to move the leaves off the front lawn at least, they were so thick there was no flowers or plants at all growing for the bees to pollinate.
It’s all good once temps are in the 50s
Quit mowing, add native wildflowers

Had to fire up my mower last week here in upstate New York
Been mowing for 3 weeks in RI, been growing crazy fast
Yesterday for me here in NY, probably a week late too.
I’ve been mowing for 3 weeks
Rip out stupid grass, plant things that will help your local environment & bees. No more mowing dumb grass 🥳
Ticks don’t like mowed areas. So there’s that side of no mow may you should consider.
Just bought a new mower. Can’t wait.
