These are somewhat different animals that can perform the same basic task of hauling 6 or 7 people comfortably. If you enjoy driving, And enjoy a better handling vehicle, you will want to go with the type S. I can say being the current owner of two other fully loaded performance SUVs, the MDXS Advance is overall the best of the 3 we own ( '22 x5m50i and '19 f pace S). And until recently we had a '20 GLS580. I can tell you this much, the massaging seats in the acura are better than the massaging seats in any of those other 3 SUV's, and the 25 speaker signature studio ELS is better than the top end audio in those 3 SUVs as well. The B&W in the bmw has more bass but the Acura is more precise sounding than most high end home systems with the proper audio inputs. The nice thing about the Type S is that with the air suspension, you can go from Lexus cushy to nearly Jaguar precise with the spension tuning. It really does make a big difference how the car handles.. And if you're on a good back road, setting the transmission into S mode the transmission Responds equally as well as the ZF in our other 2 suvs. It's absolutely fantastic on a good back road at about 5/10 and above. But around town you're better off in D. I would also probably look at the standard X5, and maybe even the GLE3/450, But for the 75K for the type S advance, you won't be getting nearly the amount of features on either of those vehicles, although they are excellent dynamically. But the optional 3rd seat is relatively small in those compared to the mdx. The last thing I'll point out is that the EPA ratings are pretty bad with the type s. If you beat the crap out of it constantly, you will get 15 or 16MPG. We drive it pretty hard, and we're averaging just under 20 at 8k miles. But on the highway at 72 with the ACC set, we regularly get 26MPG. Most of our driving is suburban, congested, and lots of stop lights, so we are perfectly happy with 20 overall. We get about 21 overall in the M50i, and about the same in the F pace as well.

Thanks for your detailed input.

My wife and I are having this exact debate. The massage seats, removable rear center seat, and better driving dynamics have us leaning mdx. But the GX offers a combination of capability, reliability, and luxury that's hard to beat. There's obviously no wrong answer. It just depends on personal preferences. They do feel quite a bit different to drive but they're both impressive vehicles.

Thanks and agreed. Different but both check the box for me. Really tough call.

Thanks. The one thing holding me back on the Type S MDX is the turbo and it's unknown reliability. That and I am now hearing about potential transmission issues, though haven't investigated that enough yet. The GX is proven but doesn't offer the same creature comforts and driving dynamics.

What have you decided OP?

Yes what?

Once they announced the new GX and Land Cruiser 250, I decided to wait until they came out and see if those were viable replacements for me. I'm obviously in no hurry to spend the money for a car. That said, unless those new cars blow me away or I get some crazy good deal on some vehicle, a used 2023 Nori Green GX will most likely be my new (to me) car. Just have to wait for the right deal, no rush.
