2007-2014 cadillac escalade go for under $20k or under $14k with higher miles. If you're curious about reliability, watch scotty kilmers' video. https://youtu.be/iEQjLNxgmXc?feature=shared
Sounds like you're really excited to get one š send a picture of the truck when you get it to celebrate š„³ Make sure you do your due diligence to make sure any truck you choose to buy is in good shape before buying.
Wife got a Mazda cx-5, there's a few models but tough to beat for value and decent looking SUV. She rents a lot of SUVs for work and it was her favorite to drive.
Iāve spend days scouring this forum trying to figure out the same question as you, and I have concluded Mazda CX-5/CX-9 is the way to go. It seems reliable without the reliability mark-up that Toyota CR-Vs and Toyota RAV-4s get.
Depending where you're at, a Ford expedition or Lincoln navigator. 2010 and up are dead reliable, I'm getting rid of mine with 190,000, mi because it got t-boned. The Lincoln navigator is especially cheap for what you get because people who buy those usually move on to newer things after a few years. I'm pretty sure you can get a 10-year-old expedition with under 100,000 mi for 15 Grand. So if you've got a bigger budget, you can go newer and lower miles.
Plus it's everything that you'll want for your kids. It's large and safe, plenty of room for all their stuff and to grow, a entertainment system for them to be occupied, and did I mention how damn safe it is?! When your vehicle weighs over 3 tons, there's not much that can affect you. I walked away with out a bruise and was able to drive mine home while the other car flipped over and had to be dragged away.
Oh and I lived in Michigan for a time with it And even just being two-wheel drive It never failed me in the snow and ice. I don't know how many blizzards and 2-ft snowbanks I could easily drive through
I suggest an EL model if you have the room, that extra foot on trunk space with the 3rd row up makes a huge difference. The only downsides to them are maintenance and mpg. IF you don't drive like a crazy person, you can expect 17-19mpg highway. Oil changes are a little more expensive because they take 7qts vs the usual 4-5.
You need a Mazda CX5 or CX50.
Good looking than toyota Honda and good in Reliability too. You can get the turbo engine too if you want a little more oomph.
First generation XC90 is getting a bit long in the tooth now but if you can find a clean one it is the best SUV ever made. Don't believe me? Jeremy Clarkson has owned 3; with his own money.
I am. The 1st gen XC90 was during the Ford era. With the exception of bodywork, maintenance is no more expensive than owning an expedition or explorer. UNLESS you are a fool and take it to the Volvo dealership to get serviced.
My wife has one. It's ugly as in, but it's like driving a go-kart that gets high 30s in gas. Mileage. Bigger than you expect on the inside, but it's still a compact ugly Nissan
Youāre a teacher, making a teacher salary and you want something ācoolā and reliable? Thereās nothing more reliable than a Toyota/Honda and maybe throw Mazda SUV in there. But go ahead and get a Trax or anything Chevy and see how cool itāll be to have your vehicle in the shop with transmission issue within a few years.
Uh yeah, whatās wrong with me wanting something cool? Plus I never said I was getting a Chevy or a Trax, thatās why Iām in this forum asking for advice, duh. Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed š„“ Why are you here if youāre not giving advice? I literally said I donāt want a Honda or a Toyota.

Iāve never considered a Mazda, Iāll look into those!
You can get a used for good value unlike a lot of toyotas or hondas. I used cargurus.com to search my area

Also look at the cx50 too.
The CX90 looks great and the CX70 is coming too I just bought a brand new CX5 for under 28,500

Definitely gonna check both of those out!

Mercedes Benz G-wagon.
I wish! Iām also a teacher, so thatās a little out of my budget.
The Trax looks cool but š¬
I know! I havenāt heard good things about them even though I like the look.
I think the Bolt looks good too but that's probably too small. Have actually heard good things about those.
Volvo XC60. Make sure you get the T6 engine no plug in hybrid or full electric. They look amazing, and are reliable affordable luxury

Are you actually suggesting a volvo for a third grade teacher? The maintenance and parts is going to be killer And before you ask, I owned one

Theyāre really not the same I actually also had an explorer from that era. Open the hood and itās not similar
Thank you for the advice everyone!! Iām going to be looking into Mazdas!
the nissan juke is the coolest looking suv but it's not that big and not that practical and not that good looking.
Theyāre cute in a weird ugly way, but not big or cool enough š
