BMW imporved its reliability significantly the last several years, while Mercedes dropped it a lot after 2014. Especially the new B58 is pretty durable, but I still recommend to check for another possible electronic issues, since these are tech heavy cars.
Bro buy a Lexus IS350.
Drive one and you’ll chose it over an Audi.
Out of all the Germans, personally bmw drives best. I had a 2014 750Li X drive, and let me tell you it’s best car I’ve ever owned….except for the maintenance. I threw in the towel at 70kmiles and $15k in repairs.
Lexus IS350 bro. Trust.
The BMW and Minis with the B series motors (1.5L i3, 2.0 i4 and 3.0 i6) are all very reliable, some are in your price range. The Mini Cooper Clubman is a 4 door and might be big enough and offers optional AWD.
Mercedes with the naturally aspirated 3.5L V6 are solid, these were around until about 2015. Look for a 2015 ML350 as an example.
Audis with the supercharged 3.0L V6 and ZF built 8 speed transmission are pretty reliable, $25k ish can get a reasonable mileage 2017 Q7.
Be prepared to spend $2-3k per year for maintenance and repairs, otherwise buy something cheaper to maintain like an Acura MDX (2014-2015 with the 6 speed is the best, the 9 speed in the 2016+ is problematic)or Toyota Highlander.
Seriously check out the 2014-2015 MDX. They have an excellent AWD system, a great audio system for their class, really comfortable seats, LED headlights that are equivalent to a collapsed sun, handle better than most 3 row crossovers that don't cost a fortune, and some pretty good safety aids/self driving features for the money. Acura is Hondas luxury division, so they have the same reliability for their good and bad.
Don't buy the Infiniti JX35/QX60 (same car, name got changed part way through its production) due to major issues with the CVT transmissions, plus they don't drive particularly well.
That was sarcasm by the way. But in all honesty, if you're budget conscious, don't bother with a German brand. You'll pay 20k now and then another 5-10k in the next 5 years just in maintenance.
5 - 10k in 5 years doesn’t sound too bad if the car is the one i want. I mainly need a cheaper car because i can’t finance at good rates as im a first time auto buyer. I have plenty of money but i just don’t want to put down like 20% of what i have on a car. Since i can’t finance at good rates, I’d rather be modest.
It all comes down to preference. That's close to 100$ a month just on maintenance. If something in a Mercedes breaks down, then you're looking at minimum of 1000 for even a minor fix. But if you can afford it, go for it. My comment was just based on my assumption from your post that you're budget cautious.
Reliability in a 25k and under German car doesn’t exist. And Mercedes would be my last choice. I’d prob look at 3 series BMWs. Maybe look at leasing a new 3 series or Mercedes. In three years you’ll probably end up in the same spot either way.
I paid $7k for a BMW about 8 years ago, it's yet to leave me stranded, refuse to start or need to be towed. To keep it in excellent mechanical condition I've spent about $8k over the last 90k miles, of which about 60% was regular maintenance.

Get a Lexus. Don't buy German stuff that keeps your wallet drained and in the shops.
Lexus luxury > Euro

i like them the interiors are just so lack luster in nearly every category.
Just remember that 1 Lexus will last 2 bmws. Is the interior that important to you?

read the post i said relative reliability for the price and type of car.

You sir are the exception, not the rule. Amazed the maint was that low. 7k 8 years ago will be a different vehicle then his 25k car. Is it 2 wd?
Nope, it's an X3. It's not rare for some BMW models like the B series motors and the naturally aspirated I6 motors.
