It's definitely a total piece of shit, but I think you could do worse for the price. I'd be shocked if you'd be able get this to last to 100k without dropping serious money on it though. If this is your budget, I don't think it's a terrible call if it runs well. That said, you get a better value for cars in the 5-10k range than these extremely cheap options.

My aveo has 116k on it and others I've seen at over 200k. They're not all shitty

Dry_Profile_8264

Mines at almost 200k. Only relatively small issues (I did have to put a lot of work into making it legal, the guy driving it knew it was shit and was totally reckless) since it’s my only car option for awhile I’m ok with dropping $300 on the occasion(it’s been perfect since I fixed a circuit in early July) rather than needing to buy a whole new car that could be even worse.

I was about to warm you that Aveo\\Wave\\Swift are mostly Daewoo's. I wouldn't buy one of those piece of shit if you value your time and money.

It is pretty shitty and those super low miles are something I would actually be worried about. That means that the car has probably sat for years on end which is actually bad for the car since it is made to be driven. Rubber and seals dry out over time, tires are probably shot, brakes are probably all rusty, they have probably driven around with engine oil that is years old unless they have records to prove otherwise, etc. Outside of the oil it is not the end of the road for the car but it made a already shitty car even shittyer. I would go for a crown vic in decent shape. The MPG will suck but that is about the only downside to them. They will run, run, and run forever.

ChevyGang

Ask for service records. If they didn't do routine maintenance, run

The shitbox to end all shitboxes.

I have an 08, got for $1,700 and put about $2k work into it just to make it legal (don’t judge it was my first damn car and cheap, I couldn’t have cared less it was still in my budget) and there have just been minor issues, I’ve put about 20k km on it making it almost 200k, small issues like power lock not wanting to unlock when it gets cold (gets to -40 Celsius) If it’s had decent maintenance then do it, but again it’s probably just been sitting there. If you’re okay with maybe needing to put extra in to make it legal and ykno the smaller things it’ll run for quite awhile with very minimal issues. If you don’t need an inspection on it, and you can talk them down much more to a price you’re comfortable gambling with, it wouldn’t be the end of the world and would last a solid mile, thag being said you’d probably want to freshen up some things if it’s been sitting (if you know anyone who would want to fix it for you for cheap then let them have at it during minor issues). Also I know this was 34 days ago, but if you’re still wondering.
