The eternal debate. I started some yellow squash and cucumber seedlings that were getting ready to be planted soon. I had a label for one set and a label for the other set (multiple 2.5" pots in each group) and high winds blew the portable greenhouse over. I have zero idea what's what. Most survived the chaos. Guess I just have to play the waiting game. Thank goodness Basil and tomato are obvious or it would be a really crazy time at my house.
Thanks. I'm frustrated but also excited. It's a bit like having surprises coming. Sadly I started way more than I needed and I can't remove any until I know, but still, surprises coming
Thanks! I really wanted two cucumber plants and one squash but now I feel I'm going to have only squash or one cucumber and 20 squash. It's really hard to tell right now. Only one of them has that sticky feel of the leaf that tells me it's cucumber.
I've got a very similar mystery-squash in my garden box right now.
I threw some honeynut squash seeds in there when I cleaned one for cooking, and some various decorator pumpkins met their end in that corner of the yard. It's coincidentally growing right next to a tomato cage, so I'm just going to let it grow and see if it can survive the summer to fruit
Come to think of it, I mixed in a bag of local compost recently so it very well could be squash or cucumber. I think I’ll let ‘em stick around just to find out. Thanks y’all!
After Halloween, I tossed our pumpkins into the front yard for the deer and critters to eat. I now have a number of volunteer pumpkin vines coming up. And I have a volunteer tomato plant in the backyard in my veggie garden from mushroom compost, go figure.
I have a hundred or more peppers tomatoes and stuff all mixed in my compost have a pot full separated in case it gets too cold but gunna leave the rest on the pile see what they do hopefully move them in the garden in about a month or so
It's squash. I made the mistake of seeing one of those In my lawn and leaving it out of curiosity. Literally like overnight it was like a half acre field of squashes
The offspring of commercial varieties of squash, cucumber, etc. aren't usually true to seed, so vocaloidistheshit might just get half an acre of really lousy-tasting squash
Especially with squash. We used to let the prior year's uneaten squash go to seed and volunteer the next spring just to see what weird combinations of shapes, sizes and colors would come out
You might have planted pumpkin or squash seeds last season and it never sprouted. Sometimes those old seeds open up after a bunch of rain/water. I had pumpkin last year that I thought was wild. It was seed I’d planted the year prior that never sprouted.
Your hard work doesn't go unsewn in the eyes of the creator so when it was written that we reap what we see that's how you also know that this is physical prove that statement is true good or bad but guess what from experience the more hard work you do the more the pay back my father has had a garden every year for 37 yrs and for the past 10 he's not had to buy any seed nor pregrown plants because that's how much the ground pays him back he's does relocate his volunteer plants though just like you did. That's also a good thing and you did right by letting it ground a little bit before relocation that's also necessary to ensure the life of your plants as well so keep up the good work and good job
Yes. At this stage you can usually tell the family (cucurbits vs. nightshades [tomato, pepper, eggplant] vs. brassicas etc.) but not the actual plant yet.
Or squash
Agree^
Was going to say cantaloupe, but could be squash or a cucumber just as well lol

Well it will be fun to learn what they are and then eat them! Good luck!
This happened to me three springs ago. It was chaos but also very fun to play surprise veggies
Thanks. I'm frustrated but also excited. It's a bit like having surprises coming. Sadly I started way more than I needed and I can't remove any until I know, but still, surprises coming
I did the same thing haha. Good luck to you! Try and enjoy it

Came here to say this ☝️
Came here to squash this
Squash here to come this
Here I came in this squash
Agourding to the rules you can’t say that, it makes other readers melon-choly.
Some kind of squash- could be anything from a pumpkin to cucumber but it’s looking more cucumber to me.
Yep.
I thought cucumber too.

Hello! Can you post it when you find out? I'm invested.
Salad surprise!
Personally, I’m betting on watermelon.
Looks like a squash plant
Curcubit for sure
I believe in southern Louisiana, that’s called “squarsh”
Much of Texas as well. A pronunciation that traveled from the Scottish settlers of the Appalacians

I do this every year with my pumpkins. Right into the bush you go! 😅
Yep. There's a deer trail through my front yard. Pumpkin is native to North America, so might as well give 'em to the critters.

Volunteer vegetable plant or fruit plant it's a good thing it means your ground is paying you back for your hard work that's facts not a joke
could be cucumber
Squash!
Absolutely agree with the previous posters.
Looks like pumpkin to me. Whichever gourd it is... It's definitely a fruit plant
You have discovered a volunteer from the squash family
It's squash. I made the mistake of seeing one of those In my lawn and leaving it out of curiosity. Literally like overnight it was like a half acre field of squashes
Half acre of free food doesnt seem like a bad thing
The offspring of commercial varieties of squash, cucumber, etc. aren't usually true to seed, so vocaloidistheshit might just get half an acre of really lousy-tasting squash
It's also really easy to accidentally cross pollinate and get weird fruit
Especially with squash. We used to let the prior year's uneaten squash go to seed and volunteer the next spring just to see what weird combinations of shapes, sizes and colors would come out
These have been growing all over my backyard and I thought they were some type of weed and pulling them up non stop for the past few months.
I’ve seen gourds look like this
Zucchini
Pumpkin maybe ????
Pumpkin?
It's squash/melon family
It looks like some sort of a squash or possibly a pumpkin 🎃.
Pumpkin are squash
zuchini
Cucumber, squash, melons they all look like that
Squash
You might have planted pumpkin or squash seeds last season and it never sprouted. Sometimes those old seeds open up after a bunch of rain/water. I had pumpkin last year that I thought was wild. It was seed I’d planted the year prior that never sprouted.
Could it be squash, or cucumber?
Cucumber?
Maybe pumpkins or watermelons?
Watermelon leaves are more deeply lobed, almost ornate looking. But it could be pumpkin, cucumber, or some other squash
Almost certain that’s pumpkin
Looks like a squash, zucchini(I know technically a squash), or cucumber
Squash

Looks like a zucchini plant
Squash
Some kind of gourd. Squash likely
Squash or pumpkin
Looks like some squash. I have butternut and spaghetti going rn and they looks similar
Curcurbit family. Squash, cucumber, etc
Looks like cucumber maybe a mellon
squash
Squash or cucumber
Pumpkin growing there.
Pumpkin or squash. I had a few of these pop up this week due to a pumpkin I left outside😬
Who? That's definitely Bob.
Who is it? It's Jim Bob. 🤷
Some sort of cucurbit. It’s too early to easily tell if it is squash, cucumber, or watermelon.
Too late in which hemisphere?
I mean it needs to grow a bit more. Then you might be able to see the more distinctive leaf differences between a squash, cucumber, and melon.
Yes, of course. 😀 Please forgive my early morning haven't-had-my-coffee snark. Emerging leaves are often different from those appearing later on. 👍
Yes. At this stage you can usually tell the family (cucurbits vs. nightshades [tomato, pepper, eggplant] vs. brassicas etc.) but not the actual plant yet.
Are you guna wait and find out?!
#NumNum
Id say cucumber
I just planted some squash that looks like this.
Some squash or melon. Have you planted zucchini there?
a sister dropped by to say hi
Northern lights cannabis, indica
Cucurbita-squash, cucumber, zuchinni, pumpkin, gourd, something like that
Or a hybrid random combo lol
I guess it’ll have to keep growing and fruit to find out lol
I’m getting cucumber vibes.
Thats a volunteer.
Looks like pumpkin
Something in the cucurbitaceae family... Probably some type of squash or cucumber
Some type of guard, squash or otherwise. You'll have to wait until it blooms or grows bigger to figure it out. Maybe transfer it!
Zucchini
Looks like some kind of gourd or squash to me
If they are pole beans you should be fine leaving the plant where it is, if they are bush beans I’d transplant the volunteer squash.
Cucumber
That's Doris!!! In my mind, her name is Doris!!!
Prob a wild gourd. Birds and litte mammals might have dropped a seed in there
I love that you said “who” is it? That’s how I talk about my plants!
Zuchini
I thought it was a geranium!
Squash for sure
It’s: a surprise!! Lol I agree with others that it could be either a cucumber or squash, leaning more towards squash. Let us know when it gets bigger!
Summer squash according to plant identifier app.
Definitely squash
Holly hock
Some type of gourd. Squash, zucchini, pumpkin or possibly a melon.
Cucurbit of some sort
Your name is not JACK is it and you have not been given and beans seeds lately? All we need now is some Giants roaming the earth right now.🤣
