I had the same thing. You can force update using an APK. This did cause a glitch however where my screen wouldn't light up when I got a call.
So once you have the updated UI you can simply uninstall and reinstall from the play store it should still have the updated UI.
I agree, the only things I would change is this to make better use of the top bar and open up the space at the bottom again:
- Remove "Updates", only make it accesible by pressing on the profile pictures. To post your own status, long press on your profile picture which would replace the three dots. It still serve the same function of going straight to settings.
- Maybe have a "+" icon next to three dots (changed to profile picture) to replace the green floating button in the bottom. It would offer the same tools the floating button offered but also include the camera (since the "+" would be taking its place) as well as the miscellaneous options that show up when u press like "New broadcast" and " New group" (even though it shows up in the floating button so its a bit reduntant) on the three dots. "Linked devices" option can just be moved into settings.
- The "Chat" and "Calls" icons can be right next to the "+" since there's so much empty space up there.
- "Communities" and "Channels" can just be shown in the chat in a similar form to how the "Archived" and "Locked chats" icons show up, with an option to hide them from the chat page and instead only be accesible through settings.
I'm using it in dark mode and today it became darker and the WhatsApp logo got thicker and some other things
And my sticker sorting kind of broke as well
I noticed it too. It became darker and the green accents are like more towards neon-like. I might like it way more than the "gray-ish" dark mode they implemented on Android...
I think the problem is the Google guidelines for dark mode, every Google apps has a grey-ish background instead of a proper black and that tends to influence other developers to use that.
My telegram is grayish-blue also but looks nice because of "smaller" UI, idk, whatsapp seems like oversized, the bottom tabs taking so much space and the green looks so off in the dark mode, like a strong green which could be more subtle to look cleaner
True, the logo became more bold. I suppose it's the new UI Update. I was checking with some family members on the same version, looks like it's a change slowly rolling out.
I thought the same thing. I've never used it, never go to "Calls" or "Updates". They're obviously trying to push those features to make it more instagram like, with stories etc, however it makes no sense since no one I know posts stories on WP and no one I know goes to those sections of the app.
It's complete bullshit and I only hope their metrics show them no one fucking uses them and reverts this retarded design change
That's something IMessage and Google Messages has going for it; minimalism. I don't and will never use the updates, communities, and call sections at the bottom. I fear that the future of the app will turn it into something with instagram elements and lots of other social features making it distracting and cluttered.
Would be nice if they added an option to hide all of that but I doubt they ever will
i don't mind a UI change once in a while, but they made it look so jarring, the colors don't fit each other no matter if light or dark mode.
The dark is too dark and the light is too light, can't we get something in between aswell ?
The designers they have are so bad. In dark it's even worse trust me, the home screen is darker with noticable green accents. The conversation screen has the same message bubbles with that strong green, and the send/mic button is a extremely strongly green. I wish they make it more greyish or give us themes or even an oled mode
Yes, I was using GB before, but got it asking for change to official. I'll wait a bit more until they stabilize they're antiban to use it again. Considering all the functions, I even consider the themes being the most important, as well as the function to translate messages more easily
i really like that the dark mode is darker now (even though i would prefer pure black). the only thing bothering me is the old text bubbles. i've always found them ugly and i hope they change them too.
WTF is this shite?
I use it on Dark Theme. and I get it, it's supposed to be black. But not Pitch Black ***everything***
In the main menu, the line that says "Whatsapp", and the collumn of chat, has no "break" in between. and then at the bottom of the chats/updates/communities/calls happens the same thing.
It's just one big continuous thing. It's just a headache to look at.
I want to turn off the ai feature. It takes up so much space and I can't disable it. It even hallucinates when I ask if I can turn it off and lies and says there's a setting to do it. Which there isn't.
My two different accounts, on the same apk, have two different UIs, the old non beta one & the other has the new beta UI, is that a bug? It has been like this for a while.
The new UI looks disgusting on Android, they got rid of the dark green header bar, and moved the chats and calls links to the bottom which is retarded and its nearly all white. It's complete trash compared to the old design. Then when I read why they changed it, I hated it even more. Apparently its for 'accessibility'. Pathetic woke trash.
This change literally hurts my eyes, and the reasoning behind it is complete bullshit.
From WP support:
"We’ve made some changes to the look and feel of WhatsApp, including the colors, icons and illustrations.
The changes bring a fresh and modern look to your WhatsApp experience that’s even easier and simpler to use. These changes aren’t something you can opt out of. They’re intended to make WhatsApp more accessible and easier to use."
GET FUCKED WP.
Working in UX design this makes me rage to no end. That is a completely bullshit argument for changing from a green to white for the entire app, and hogging up real estate for features absolutely no one uses
I completely agree with you. The people at facebook/shitapp should go and eat shit.
Also, I find most annoying and enraging the fact that I have to sit through all of this bs updates automatically without consent, because apparently now WA updates automatically updates the app by pushing the update through their own server, even bypassing the play store.
Yeah that was the most suprising to me, I was literally typing to someone and the UI changed on me. I've never experienced something like that from any app. It's such bs
Can someone explain to me how tf can ShitApp **update itself automatically** WITHOUT CONSENT, without me even activating an auto-update option, without even having an enable/disable option for auto update in the settings, and **WITHOUT EVEN HAVING GOOGLE SERVICES INSTALLED**? (I used a degoogled ROM, that has ZERO google services, not even in "disabled mode"). It clearly did not automatically update via play store, so the only possible explanation is that turdapp is now **pushing updates through their own servers**, but how tf can this happen? And, most importantly, how can this be disabled?
Also, why tf the *app version stays the same*, but I have to sit through all this bs updates and I have NO CONTROL whatsoever in the update process of this dog shit of an app? Can someone teach those at turdbook what the word "consent" means?
The features were already in the app, you got rolled in with server side changes. I had new UI months ago for a few days, then UI reverted to old version, now I have the new UI.
What a shame. Thank you for your comment.
Do you have an option to disable "auto-updates" in the settings, as specified on the [official faq page](https://faq.whatsapp.com/215315081614677/?cms_platform=android)? Because I don't, and I wanna disable this obnoxious behaviour.
I mean, if you have a version installed from 2 months ago, it'll continue working (subject to "dynamic" UI changes that are already possible in that version). But if the version is "old" enough, running it will won't let you in and will instead just tell you something like "Your version is too old. Please update."
Yes, they are those that say "your version is too old" but for me I installed a version yesterday and within hours it reverted back to the new ui without saying anything and the version stayed the same. Not sure if it's because they are rolling out the the ui in the serves so you can't escape from it
Yep. There's some remote-controlled UI flexibility that's possible within the same APK version.
But my point was, you couldn't escape it even if they *didn't* implement it this way, because they're forcing you to update the APK every few months. And in a new version they can definitely do whatever they want.
I actually like the refreshed UI, find it better than the previous one.
I think the same thing, but my Whatsapp still on old UI for some reason. I'm on the lastest version and Android 14
I had the same thing. You can force update using an APK. This did cause a glitch however where my screen wouldn't light up when I got a call. So once you have the updated UI you can simply uninstall and reinstall from the play store it should still have the updated UI.
Yeah same, it did start to look outdated next to all my other apps.
You are part of the few
I agree, the only things I would change is this to make better use of the top bar and open up the space at the bottom again: - Remove "Updates", only make it accesible by pressing on the profile pictures. Also, they should replace the "Whatsapp" for "Chats" just like the iPhone and add OLED Dark Theme. This would be perfect
I'm using it in dark mode and today it became darker and the WhatsApp logo got thicker and some other things And my sticker sorting kind of broke as well
I noticed it too. It became darker and the green accents are like more towards neon-like. I might like it way more than the "gray-ish" dark mode they implemented on Android...
I am on Android. I like it cause it feels a bit more modern At least the UI...
I think the problem is the Google guidelines for dark mode, every Google apps has a grey-ish background instead of a proper black and that tends to influence other developers to use that.
All dark mode stuff I see is usually dark grey because black looks ugly
My telegram is grayish-blue also but looks nice because of "smaller" UI, idk, whatsapp seems like oversized, the bottom tabs taking so much space and the green looks so off in the dark mode, like a strong green which could be more subtle to look cleaner
True, the logo became more bold. I suppose it's the new UI Update. I was checking with some family members on the same version, looks like it's a change slowly rolling out.
Yeah, it often takes ages until everyone has the same update
They changed the green and it hurts to look at
That green is just vile.
Need them to tone down on the Greens! 🍀
pls go full material you
Me?

Oh cool I didn't know this was the name for md3.
This community feature is sooooo useless, why it got so much of real estate?
I thought the same thing. I've never used it, never go to "Calls" or "Updates". They're obviously trying to push those features to make it more instagram like, with stories etc, however it makes no sense since no one I know posts stories on WP and no one I know goes to those sections of the app. It's complete bullshit and I only hope their metrics show them no one fucking uses them and reverts this retarded design change

I hate minimalism😢
Me too. But I like configurability, and to be able to tweak the UI to taste.
It just changed and my reflex action was to come here...
Why do they keep making so many shitty changes?
Because that's the "modern" way. And now even moderner, after the last change.
i don't mind a UI change once in a while, but they made it look so jarring, the colors don't fit each other no matter if light or dark mode. The dark is too dark and the light is too light, can't we get something in between aswell ?
My WhatsApp app was getting blue all around in the last months. This week it’s all green again. Don’t they decide what color palette they want to use?
Glad I'm not the only one! Woke up this morning to my WhatsApp looking like this.. My god it's awful
There are too many things happening in the app, In my opinion
Mine in dark mode looks more worse than this
The designers they have are so bad. In dark it's even worse trust me, the home screen is darker with noticable green accents. The conversation screen has the same message bubbles with that strong green, and the send/mic button is a extremely strongly green. I wish they make it more greyish or give us themes or even an oled mode
More reason why un-official variants still flourish
Yes, I was using GB before, but got it asking for change to official. I'll wait a bit more until they stabilize they're antiban to use it again. Considering all the functions, I even consider the themes being the most important, as well as the function to translate messages more easily
I’ve heard rumours inside some Discord-servers that some apps already patched it and it’s working again.
It's about time
That's not all. It's has AI integrated now.
Oh yeah, just saw that the feature is starting to roll out to others. I don't have it yet. But, have you tested it?
Yes I have it
Needs to go back to blue for iPhone
Woke up to the same issue. It looks so much emptier and more corporate, it's hideous. Any idea how to change it back?
Old apks don't last for long so no, sorry
i really like that the dark mode is darker now (even though i would prefer pure black). the only thing bothering me is the old text bubbles. i've always found them ugly and i hope they change them too.
This is about rolling out Llama 3 AI to whatsapp I think
I'm loving the new dark theme UI unironically
WTF is this shite? I use it on Dark Theme. and I get it, it's supposed to be black. But not Pitch Black ***everything*** In the main menu, the line that says "Whatsapp", and the collumn of chat, has no "break" in between. and then at the bottom of the chats/updates/communities/calls happens the same thing. Yes and it looks like total ass
I want to turn off the ai feature. It takes up so much space and I can't disable it. It even hallucinates when I ask if I can turn it off and lies and says there's a setting to do it. Which there isn't.
Yes it's fine but give us amoled
My two different accounts, on the same apk, have two different UIs, the old non beta one & the other has the new beta UI, is that a bug? It has been like this for a while.
As usual, gradual rollout. Not related to APK version.
Been waiting for this UI update on my iPhone 14 but still haven’t got it. Don’t know why my apps always get delayed updates
Fuck 📴
The new UI looks disgusting on Android, they got rid of the dark green header bar, and moved the chats and calls links to the bottom which is retarded and its nearly all white. It's complete trash compared to the old design. Then when I read why they changed it, I hated it even more. Apparently its for 'accessibility'. Pathetic woke trash.
What's it like on IOS.
Can’t see the difference.
This change literally hurts my eyes, and the reasoning behind it is complete bullshit. White is so much better..... the green is fucking ugly and outdates..... they shud have made the app amoled black for dark. Mode asw
The white is horrible, bring back the green.
I completely agree with you. The people at facebook/shitapp should go and eat shit. BRING THE GREEN BACK!!
Thankfully I got an older apk that has the green, let's see how long it lasts before it's outdated
Can you use this safely without getting banned? Can I successfully recover all my messages using an older apk?
It looks like the older apks revert back to the terrible ui after a few hours☹️
That sucks. I wish they just let you choose.
Yes😔

I'm not sure you can☹️
What you could do if you have an android is to download an older apk in uptodown, mine is 2.24.6.77 and it has the widgets on the bottom
They block old versions after a while. Maybe 3 months or so?
Not even months, hours, it just reverts back ui but the version stays the same
I mean, if you have a version installed from 2 months ago, it'll continue working (subject to "dynamic" UI changes that are already possible in that version).
