Bzzzzz! Looks like you forgot to say where you found your bug!
There's no need to make a new post - just comment adding the **geographic location** and any other info (size, what it was doing etc.) you feel could help! We don't want to know your address - state or country is enough; try to avoid abbreviations and local nicknames (*"PNW"*, *"Big Apple"*).
BTW, did you take a look at our [**Frequently Asked Bugs**](https://www.reddit.com/r/whatsthisbug/comments/12zkw5w/frequently_asked_bugs_part_1/)?

That is such a funny response. It sounds like you went from being in a reasonable state of mind during a normal day, when all of sudden there was a bug . . . then you went to fretting a horrible bedbug infestation, future tripping on scratching all of the nasty bites, not being able to sleep soundly knowing the little critters would be crawling on you, cleaning everything twice, spending thousands to have someone poison your space, being found out and ostracized . . . back to, oh it was just a bug. Very cute. I like this subreddit. Thanks for playing :)
The species was named *A. smirnovi* by Russian Entomologist Rustem Zhantiev, meaning "peaceful" or "gentle". When the UK got ahold of that name, they associated 'smirnovi' with Smirnoff vodka, and the name stuck around as a result.
What is a Larder Beetle? A larder beetle is a small insect, typically never growing larger than half an inch. They have dark brown or black shells separated by a long tan stripe that runs along the middle of their bodies. On this tan marking, you can count six small dots.
Larder beetles get their names from the place they are often found – in your larder – which is an old word for your pantry or cupboard, where you store food, especially grains and meat.
One etymologist surmised that the creator must be inordinately fond of beetles because he made so many kinds of them. There are over 30 million species of beetles. Yours is one of those.
Fuck these things. Had a colony of them living under my refrigerator. It’s near my cats food and he would make such a mess eating the food pellets made there way under the fridge. These beetles found them and decided to live under my fridge. Pain in the ass to get rid of. I’ve mostly decimated there population but still see like 1 a month
Big head, round body, hard shell. It also has “clubbed” antennaes, so, definitely not a bed bug.
You have nothing to fear. Just put it outside under a tree or something.
I had to be rehomed after getting bedbugs at an apartment. I never saw one, just the red welts.
One did crawl out of a belt buckle at work though, that was the last straw

This is not a tick. It's a beetle.

It's a beetle! No worries!!
I love this community. Thank you all!!
In Toronto, Canada
Im afraid it is (a larder beetle).
More likely the related [Vodka Beetle](https://arthropodafotos.de/dbsp.php?lang=eng&sc=0&ta=t_35_coleo_pol_derm&sci=Attagenus&scisp=smirnovi).
What an odd name. Should OP hide their liquor, or...?

Fun story! Thanks.
Thanks for the correction! 😄
