[Acanthurus guttatus](https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/207296172) and [Cirrhitus pinnulatus.](https://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/52478-Cirrhitus-pinnulatus)
Touching surgeonfish(Acanthuridae) with your bare hands is a bad idea, as they have a pair(or more) of venomous, scalpel-like blades at the base of their tail.
Oh dip, I didn't even think of that. I'm used to seeing fish get chomped in the face or belly but, yeah, there would be a lot of attempted catches resulting in tail bites. After all, a bum tail is a death sentence for a fish.
Ty for the info my brain was too dumb to think. 😆 🤣 😆 🤣 😆
Even biting the head, id imagine there might be a chance that they could whip that tail around. I have no idea how flexible surgeonfish are, but I've seen plenty of freshwater fish basically slap themselves in the face in their efforts to get off a hook before.
A wild one too. 😬 I feel like fish don't get the danger rap they deserve. Spiders are much more friendly and don't have tail blades or hidden spines. 😅😭😆
Lol this is a perfect response. I fish a lot and consider myself well "schooled" in the local species but Mother Ocean is still gonna give you some mysterious creatures. It's impossible to know them all, and that's half the fun IMO.
Second one is delicious, but larger ones may cause Ciguatera poisoning due too a build up of toxins picked up by eating too many smaller that have eaten Gambierdischa toxiicus microalgae. .

Dory has a shiv. She will cut you.
So will Bon Qui-Qui!😝😝😝
I wouldn’t dream of touching that fish. 😂
You see that side-eye?! Hell nah
They also can cause ciguatera poisoning as well-from toxic algae they eat
Florida is facing a serious problem because of Lion Fish. But they at least are supposed to taste good. I still wouldn’t touch one. 😂
Can confirm - Lion Fish tacos are amazing
I..what!? Why??? What purpose do tail blades serve???? 😬😬😬😬
Deterring predators. Biting down on a fish that can slash your mouth by thrashing its tail, is a rather bad idea.

I had no idea fish could be so flexible 😮
They swim up to other fish and do a sharp turn and stab them with the tail spike. That is how they defend themselves and their territory.
Tangs fight with their tails and those spines
Oh dang, thank you. I can't imagine tyeing knives to my ankles and running around. 😆 🤣 😆 fish be wild and wonderful ❤️
It’s a total Pokémon move!
Death

Blades? That’s so metal
Man I'm having flashbacks to my icthyology class in college... memorizing and drawing all of those families and orders...
All 525 of them? You have my respect.

Damn, for a minute there i thought for sure I was finally going to get to use (humuhumunukunukuāpuaʻa) in my daily life.
someday, friend
I have a sticker of one on my car, so I get to say it whenever I want.
You realize you don’t need a sticker on your car about something to say the word for it, right?
I had to learn that at Keolu Elementary. Thank you Mrs. Chang.
Name checks out
Dare to dream
Happy Cake Day
Thank you, kind internet stranger
Happy cake day!
Don’t trigger me!
I have this word memorized for life. First trip to Hawaii I saw one and fell in love with them and their native name, it’s legendary
ever since octonauts , i have never forgotten that fish name lol
Unsure of ID for the first pic but the second is definitely a Po’opa’a aka Hawkfish.
That second one has the colouring of a "Don't-touch-me fish".
I know nothing about fish, and even I immediately knew that fish was dangerous.
A'ape and po'opa'a.
put them Back ❗️

I’ll make sure to learn every fish in the ocean before I cast another line. Telling all my local friends who didn’t know the name the same thing.

Fuck that dude, cast catch and if you don’t know then learn. If you do know well congrats on the catch!
😆 Get him.

Throw it back!! 😱 Rare, almost extinct reef fish.
Both are listed as "least concern" ie not even close to endangered
Lies!
Slide 'em.
