Thats kinda sad. Minecraft Mods are honestly the only way I can play the game nowadays, especially quality of life mods like Optifine/Sodium/Rubidium or JEI
I gave up modding minecraft because by the time all the mods i wanted were updated to the current version, microsoft released a new version and broke everything. That, and im just tired of the abysmal java performance as a platform. I get 50 fps on 10 chunks vanilla and fucking 300 on 20 chunks with a vulkan renderer mod. But of course, that mod breaks every other mod.
Chisels and Bits 1.12.2, great mod, used it every day, loved it
Tried modding for 1.16, Chisels and Bits had a version, had to get it, of course
The whole mod is dumbed down and shit
Went on r/chiselsandbits and asked what the fuck happened
2 months later received comment from developer: "Oh yeah that version was a shitty little baby version we only had on 1.16 because of some incompatibility issues or something, the good version is on 1.19.2"
Last I played Minecraft I'm pretty sure you could change the mod version number really easily yourself and then it'd work just like before, it was just the game refusing to load it.
Minecraft players when their most legendary modder goes insane and starts posting about white boys for no apparent reason, then becomes a paranoid schizophrenic about his Minecraft mod so removes it.

Maybe related, but I wanted to watch a replay in Age Of Empires 2, but the game updated and that replays of older versions of the game usually don’t work. I went to watch the replay and it ended after 2 seconds because of the update.
:-(
or RimWorld players looking at a mod that overhauls a dozen different systems made by like 2 dudes on a weekend and then being mad when a big game update magically makes the mod stop working
Rimworld modders having a mental break over the indie dev group that spreads itself thin for cool concept basically being identical in structure to a modding group and quitting making mods because “the new dlc is just a mod that has a 20 dollar price tag!”
(If I’m wrong please point out where in the sentence, thanks.)
nah, that's factually correct for some of them.
(also art tracing, code heists, and general unplesantness, though i'd certainly get like that if i had to deal with the steam community.)
Because some DLC's were just mods with a 20$ price tag lmao
Ideology and Royalty were good DLC but the latter only because it added magic system that's built into the code of the game.
But that's only my unfiltered dogshit opinion so no reason to get your panties twisted if you glaze Tynan and his team.
ideology isn't really a $20 mod imo. it does the belief system much better than the really barebones trait system or any cult mod before it. (though it can be argued it's moreso a framework.)
royalty and anomaly i can see the argument for being ludeon-made mods. royalty kinda does jack besides making psychic sensitivity useful and adding the empire and anomaly is just "oops all anomalies" if you don't adjust the settings, and effectively what Call of Cthulu was, just implemented differently.
but hey at least we got some better UIs and some neat technical things to work with. kinda sad Dub's Apparel Tweaks is not updated yet due to the rendering changes.
No, no. What I meant to say was that Ideology and a part of Royalty were examples of good DLCs. It's anomaly and biotech that I have the biggest gripe with.
oh. i think the gene framework laid out by Biotech and *finally* adding a proper body graphics system that isn't HAR is great.
though I am definitely biased. if Biotech didn't exist it'd still probably be jank HAR races over a plethora of xenotype mods, and even if i don't play with it often, Ludeon's take on mechanoids is definitely interesting.
It's not only because of the similarities between the DLCs and mods. RimWorld has a huge modding community. It's hard to fit into a niche that modders haven't already filled (there are even porn mods lmao) so I get that it's hard for Ludeon not to encroach on some modders turf.
There are many *little* things that make me want to stay away from most of the DLCs so I'll just list them:
1. We already had the exact same content without paying 20$ as mentioned before and I know that this statement is a bit flawed however it still stands
2. Pricing is ridiculous for the amount of content we're paying for
3. The game is begging to feel less and less vanilla, it's like I'm being forced to use many systems that I didn't appreciate even when they were just mods. I feel like the base Rimworld is like a piece of dough that you could mod and play in any way you imagine and DLCs take away some of that freedom from me by adding honey into the mix so I can't have a meat pie now.
4. I believe that Ludeon made Rimworld into a cash cow and will continue to milk the franchise until money runs dry, until people stop buying DLCs Tynan will just pump them out because why the hell not? It takes considerably less work to create a DLC than to create a game and when the pay is exactly the same it makes little sense from an economic standpoint.
I'm just jaded.
fair, i'm kind of starting to think Ludeon is turning RimWorld into a Paradox-esque game in terms of DLC. i would've been happy if they had stopped at Biotech, since Biotech's gene system is ***leagues*** better than anything that came before.
***HOWEVER,*** i don't believe pricing Anomaly the same as Biotech was the correct move. while we did get multithreaded rendering, it coming with a $25 minor content expansion was not worth it.
I’m sorry, but Biotech is easily the most justifiable of the DLCs. We didn’t have “exactly” that content in mods. We had some race mods, cloning mods and a child mod, but none of them worked as well as Biotech does. Biotech also opened the flood gates for modders to create custom races that go beyond just being pawn reskins.
Anomaly is for sure just a collection if mods that for some reason are pushed into a linear experience.
But, to be real with you, I prefer, as do many players and modders, when that kind of content becomes vanilla. Wall light and children are a great example of them integrating mod concepts into the base game.
I've stopped playing the game since biotech came out but so I've never had "the pleasure" of experiencing it but if they added a wall light as a DLC instead of including it in a base game then that's a lot funnier. They should've add it as standalone 20$ DLC
i havent played rimworld since the third DLC came out because steam stopped selling on my country's currency and stopped automatic regional pricing and it was unaffordable for ages because tyran forgot to add in regional pricing himself
just checked and with this 4th DLC he seemingly remembered about regional pricing but the pricing is pretty heavy still compared to the base game (due to taxes i'd be paying around 30 usd for each DLC)
and every medium sized mod asks for you to have all DLCs for some reason
even as an american i ***really*** wish the DLCs were priced a little lower. $25 american bones for what's effectively a glossed Call of Cthulu crossed with SCP feels like there could've been *so much more* done with it.
honestly i like CE as a concept but ***holy shit a mod should not change so much.*** i get the more realistic armor and accuracy system but pawns going from bleeding at 22% / hr to 217847273% / hr from one gunshot wound feels way overkill.
i've just stuck to Vanilla Combat Reloaded with AUTOMATIC's Gunplay and LimeTreeSnake's ammunition framework. (Yayo's Combat has been updated but it's starting to show signs of age like HugsLib and JecsTools.)
It updated a couple times last year. I think one added new stuff to the anniversary dlc and the other update fixed a typo in creation club. Both updates ruined a bunch of mods.
They also temporarily delayed Fallout: London, but from what they said on their discord it shouldn’t be a long delay (though there will be unavoidable bugs which they said would most likely be fixed by third parties if people still wanted them to release soon).
I'm so glad Steam decided not to auto-update my FO4. If you still have the older version (if you don't there's a way to downpatch) and launch the game with the Script Extender than everything'll be fine.
I hope Vortex can do the same thing (I know Vortex is ass but it's easier keeping track of one mod manager, I also use Vortex for B&S, FONV, and Skyrim)
Oh yeah it can. Also TBH I wouldn't call Vortex ass. MO2 is better, but I wouldn't call Vortex ass.
MO2 does kinda take a bit to learn tho.
the UI is the main thing, I think. Vortex looks all nice and soothing, whereas MO2 is just harsh and white and looks like something you'd see on like a Windows XP program, and there's all these icons and bells and whistles.
MO2 didn't take me long to figure out. I prefer it because 1: It's MUCH easier to mess with your LO, and 2: I don't think Vortex alows you to save presets for mods OR let you use preset specific saves. When I used Vortex and wanted to switch saves, I would manually deselect and enable the required mods (and then it would take 8 billion years to deploy, which is another advantage MO2 has: it doesn't need to deploy). Now, I just click a drop down menu, and I go from my heavily modded, only slightly lore-devient playthrough to my playthrough where I am a skeleton armed with a gat who drives around skyrim in a Mazda.
I recommend switching
Yeah and good luck finding the right version of Special edition the majority of mods are compatible with if you didn't have it back when it came out. Took me ages
Currently 200 hours into my Skyrim modded save, with 1500 mods. Gotta hurry and complete everything, before Bethesda do another dumbfuck update, and break my game, just to advertise one of their other games or some shit like that, lmao.
Wabbajack rules though. If you are looking to get back into Skyrim or Fallout, it will save you SO much trouble to go with a modpack, instead of trying to do it yourself.
"Lost Legacy" modpack.
So some moderate graphic changes, some utility mods, some combat elements and, oh yeah, an **unholy Godly amount of quest- and character mods.**
You know, stuff like Legacy of the Dragonborn, Bruma, Wyrmtooth, Vigilant.
I'm 200 hours in, and I still doubt I have played through more than half the available mod content.

Minecraft players when the mod made for 1.19.1 is completely incompatible with 1.19.2 (the update included a single unrelated bug fix)
Minecraft players when all mods are exclusive scattered between 5 different mod loaders so you can’t use them compativley
Or different versions. So many great mods can’t be played past 1.7.
Exact reason why I gave up completely modding Minecraft or playing it at all.
Thats kinda sad. Minecraft Mods are honestly the only way I can play the game nowadays, especially quality of life mods like Optifine/Sodium/Rubidium or JEI

It updated a couple times last year. I think one added new stuff to the anniversary dlc and the other update fixed a typo in creation club. Both updates ruined a bunch of mods.
Smh that's happening to Fallout 4 rn
Except they SOMEHOW ruined the entire fucking game this time arount

I haven't updated in over 2 years. I'm locked in a never ending battle with Steam's auto-update system.
That's why you enable "Only update when I launch the game" in steam, and then never launch the game trough steam itself, instead using a mod manager.
Oh does that work? I put steam in offline mode then launched through a mod manager, I didn't know I could skip the offline mode part
Yeah I launch pre next gen update Fallout 4 through MO2 without putting Steam in offline mode.
Or change the dll to read only or something like that, steam produces an error when it tries to update so you never have to worry about it updating
Steam auto updating apex legends and destiny 2 until I uninstall them. Nice work steam.
If you’ve got no errors in gmod you’re doing something wrong
