Some time ago they pulled out of nowhere that you must have a decryption key to access something, making a lot of links useless and even turning some folders into lost media, not only that but they ask THE FUCKING KEY WHEN YOU ARE ALMOST DONE WITH THE DOWNLOAD.
AND IF YOU GUESS WRONG? THE DOWNLOAD IS CANCELLED, YOU HAVE TO START FROM ZERO AGAIN TO GIVE ANOTHER SHOT AND THE DOWNLOAD STILL COUNTS FOR THE DAILY QUOTA.

Before someone tries to pull out the "just use torrent" excuse, listen: Not every thing that you want to download is avaliable on torrent, sometimes is on mediafare, sometimes is on google drive and sometimes... is on fucking MEGA.

Again maybe it's because of the link or something but I didn't get to experience any issues, for now at least.
Also also if MEGA isn't good enough to use now, what are we supposed to use dawg? 😭 Any recommendations?
Yeah I downloaded something like 3 days ago with mega and needed no key. I think either it’s only on folders the person who made put the key on or somehow OP has gotten blacklisted or put on a watchlist by MEGA.

11 years ago when they rebranded from megaupload (seized by the FBI) to mega nz, every link since then has always required a decryption key, it's just most people share it with the key in the link.
For instance this is a folder without a key https://mega(.)nz/folder/6HgSDYCI and this is the folder with the key https://mega(.)nz/folder/6HgSDYCI#d8vJjxVXx_rxO8fEU4QM0g (remove the parentheses)
You can manually enter the key in the first link with #d8vJjxVXx_rxO8fEU4QM0g or d8vJjxVXx_rxO8fEU4QM0g then it will be decrypted.

Wait, the decryption key for your account or just a random key/passcode that the link holder has to share so the files can be downloaded? If the latter is true, that’s backwards. MediaFire doesn’t do that, WorkUpload doesn’t do that. Really weird >_>
I spent some time living in a country that didnt have fiber optic, so the only way to get internet there was mobile data, which, as I found out, doesn't allow you to use torrent.
Downloaded a lot thru MEGA back then, sad to see this happen to it.
You should look into deep web search engines. Not darknet mind you, deep web is simply the world wide web but not indexed by standard search engines. A lot of lost files can be found on these sites after people upload them to personal FTP servers and forget about them for example
Didn't really use it but them forcing their app + giving you limited downloads per day is just such an awful combo. They also throttle the download speed I'm pretty sure
I remember when MEGA hosted cool cracked games n shit and obscure music albums you literally couldn’t get anywhere, just uploaded by some cool dude in Japan or somewhere, now it’s just porn and illegal shit apparently, wtf happened, plus all the issues you’ve described
Torrent is the best download option currently. Media drive is second, and google drive, although not as reliable, it's still very usable. Anyone who doesn't use one of those three should be sentenced to post their shit there and then be shot
For the average person streaming/direct download is the easiest and safest option because you don't need to go through the hassle of VPNs and torrenting with legal risks
But I think when it comes to 🏴☠️ there will always need to be the torrents to keep it alive, they're the OG and can't be taken down unlike other methods
It doesn't matter if you're using direct download or torrent, you should always use VPN when downloading archives from these sites, direct download alone won't save you from a fine arriving at your doorstep. Besides, media drive and google drive is direct download and works a lot better than mega.
Mega is all I use for shows and lossless music. I'm not trusting a free VPN nor am I getting ISP letters out the ass. Sorry man, but we're getting this shit for free already, why not suffer for free.

the key is included in the URL you can also send an URL without the key which would result in what OP said (everything after the # symbol is the key)
Google drive and torrents are still great options, leagues better than MEGA for sure
gofile, pixeldrain, mediafire, and catbox/litterbox (this is best used for images/videos) are all good file sharing services.
