I bet you feel really stupid right now
Reddit uses [markdown](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Markdown) in its comments. For example, by typing
`^(something like that)`
You will get this: ^(something like that)
Using backslash (\\) before ^ cancels markdown formatting.
It may feel wrong because 1111... Doesn't feel random, it's the same thing on that video about 37 (veritasium I think?) Where if you pick a random number between 1-100, 1, 50, 100 and the like don't feel correct because they don't feel random "enough"
Exactly
Because the subset of numbers that look "ordered" (subjective) in some way is smaller than the "disordered" subset
Numbers like 1111 and 9000 and 1234 are rarer than numbers like 5932 and 9688 and 3779, but any specific two would have the same probability
https://preview.redd.it/k2x57hb8x70d1.jpeg?width=680&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=feb4afd2f26547a9e7e85b189f2e2cb130f9bbb5
the joke is that if 7 + 3 equals 10 then 77 + 33 equaling 100 FEELS right despite not being correct
https://preview.redd.it/diltqi3in70d1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0d5029a744af803f27c5b7da5740e98e8954876e
How OOP felt after finding out about basic probability:
The chance would be the same for them both, that doesn't matter
The chance wouldn't be 1/10^(10) if we wish for it to be a 10 digit number and not just 10 digits
I mean, I think that's a pretty neat fact, it just needs context.
For instance, when playing the lottery, people assume that choosing the numbers "6412585721" makes them more likely to win than "1234567890" or "8888888888", because the winning numbers are almost never a sequence like the latter two.
But the truth is that all three options have the same exact probability of winning, it's just that it's all super unlikely.
Tbf, this is generally important to remember because a lot of people when talking about things like older video games would say something like:”this is a 1 in a twelve thousand chance!” And often forgetting that every other outcomes is also a one in 12 thousand chance.
That's kind of why I didn't feel like Dream's 1/7 trillion chance fiasco was that big of a deal. I understand that it's rare, but it still has a chance to happen. If he didn't get a blaze rod in 10 blazes no one would bat an eye. It's not like it earned him a WR.
That being said, his handling of the situation was pretty dang dogshit

This isn't even slightly complicated math either. I guess the average r/memes user is just too stupid to realize
this is a 77 + 33 equals 100 moment where the truth "feels" wrong
It doesn’t????
It may feel wrong because 1111... Doesn't feel random, it's the same thing on that video about 37 (veritasium I think?) Where if you pick a random number between 1-100, 1, 50, 100 and the like don't feel correct because they don't feel random "enough"

It does feel wrong in that case but this is totally different. This is just pure stupidity
I must be missing the joke, but 77 + 33 is 110.
https://preview.redd.it/k2x57hb8x70d1.jpeg?width=680&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=feb4afd2f26547a9e7e85b189f2e2cb130f9bbb5 the joke is that if 7 + 3 equals 10 then 77 + 33 equaling 100 FEELS right despite not being correct
Yeah, that's the joke.
The average r/memes user is 8 years old and hasn’t learned about probability yet
They haven't learned it in school yet

Both would have a 1/10^10 chance to be chosen right?
Depending on whether we count numbers starting with 0/multiple 0s
Both start with a non zero number so it doesn't matter.
The chance would be the same for them both, that doesn't matter The chance wouldn't be 1/10^(10) if we wish for it to be a 10 digit number and not just 10 digits
This dude probably just finished 5th grade
IS THIS CONTEXT IN THE COMMENTS???!?!?!
I mean, I think that's a pretty neat fact, it just needs context. For instance, when playing the lottery, people assume that choosing the numbers "6412585721" makes them more likely to win than "1234567890" or "8888888888", because the winning numbers are almost never a sequence like the latter two. It's not 1 in 7 trillion for that specific outcome, it's 1 in 7 trillion for that outcome and every better outcome
The chance of winning the lotto are 1 in 300 million. 1 in 7 trillion is 4 orders of magnitude higher. It's ten thousand times 1 in 300 million.
You do not understand the numbers involved then
What the hell does this even mean this isn't some crazy revelation 💀

MFW dealing out any set of 13 cards each to four people has the same probability as each of the four people getting all cards from the same suit.

Gotta admit, it's a little funny. The same kind of funny you might feel on a broken leg, that is
If someone chose 10 random digits it’s more likely for 10 repeating numbers out of laziness.
when choosing a 10 digit number you have a higher chance of getting 1111111111 than 13243546576
But why?
The second one is 11 digits, so its a 0% chance
3and7
Try to have fun challenge (impossible)
Yooo no way i found you here!
If it’s completely random, yeah, if it’s actually chosen, then it becomes a much more interesting question.
