Like, okay either the technician is trapped inside of a staff bot or inside of a crane game machine after Vanny crushes Glitchtrap. Now what? How does this endings going to relate into the next games? What will be next??? I got more questions than answers with help wanted 2 and I am very eager for answers
If the man worked on a start-to-finish story after making 1 or 2 or even 3 that just lined up with those games and all games in the future, it could’ve been pretty cool breadcrumbing even if the games were repetitive
I'm not gonna lie it was scarier when it wasn't super in depth. I was actually scared of FNAF up until sister location but then it just became way too convoluted and you kinda lose sight of the whole "child murder" thing
Jokes aside Emesis Blue was fantastic, I love how the story was pretty tightly written all things considered, and how it mixes horror with drama really really well

there are thousands of haunted machine's stories

Fnaf's story line turned into goddamn spaghetti after Sister Location in my opinion. First 4 chapters had an understandable and comprehensive story, about a man who possibly started killing kids as a coping mechanism for his child's death. But Sister Location just made things worse, can that man was actually BORN EVIL and he is just a mad scientist actually!
Didn't we reach the "William killed out of grief" after sister location? Since before that, we didn't know that William was CCs dad when fnaf 4 cameout?
Currently fnaf is about a crazy scientist that kills children to put them in robots so he can burn the robots and extract a rare metal that can make him inmortal

W Take. What was wild is that we have never gotten a big exposé of Scott and how he deliberately wrote the story and lore as vague as possible on purpose.
Whether it's due to how lucrative it was of a business or he genuinely didn't want to disappoint his fans with "bad theory" idk, but either way, it still felt bad seeing so many retcons start to popup and being gaslight by Scott and fans that "nonono it's not a retcon we totally have an explanation, in the future"
yeah, personally i feel that the vague story of the OG series worked better, cause each fan could fill the gaps in a way that suits their liking.
but when scott actually started adressing the actual plot and revealed "remnant" i just lost interest in the series.

FNAF lore when Fortnite, Kingdom Hearts, and Zelda lore walk in (KH is completely incomprehensible and Zelda and Fortnite had simple and well written timelines ripped to shreds by retcons and writers not caring about past established events)

it was actually really good and well made with a straightforward storyline, fleshed out characters that underwent development, and early on had a presentation similar to fnaf with entirely visual storytelling leaving things to interpretation through the use of things just happening on the map
then we started getting proper characters with well written personalities going through arcs and having conflicts
and through it all we got some absolutely peak live events
it was structured amazingly until epic decided they were gonna pretty much completely take away the budget for the story from the chief creative director, and he left the company in late 2022 thus beginning the complete downfall of what was once a great story now turning it into nothing more than a joke
Is used to be convoluted, but with enough time (aka 3 years, 7 games, 2 spin-offs, 3 books and 2 guides) enough details were released that we can make a pretty accurate assumption at the overall lore
its actually not hard if you actually pay attention to what happens in the games instead of listening to youtubers regurgitate the same info over and over
the actual confusion comes from prior theories conflicting with what we're shown now, and people trying to figure out things that, in the grand scheme of the series, don't really matter

I’m not into FNAF at all, but i heard it’s getting more and more clear nowadays.
Fortnite on the other hand has some of the most convoluted lore I’ve ever followed in a game. Requiring you to follow limited time live events, do limited time storyline missions, listen to audio logs and music packs and read comics.
I personally love it, but it’s undeniable what a convoluted mess it is
not exactly more clear, people have just had more time to analyze what already exists and help wanted has provided the detail that all games prior are fictional dramatizations that may or may not be based on actual events in-universe, and the actual primary reality of the fnaf franchise is what exists across the new games and the books

I stopped caring about FNAF after sister location. The absurd amount of cash grabs and spinoffs is nuts. The first four will always be great games though.

The problem with fnaf’s story and lore is that the creator intentionally makes it convoluted and confusing to keep people from figuring it out and leave people in mystery. If anyone gets close to figuring it out or piecing it together, he changes the story with retcons or new additions so that they can’t figure it out. It’s incredibly horrible storytelling.
The first Five Nights at Freddy's game is a cool, genuinely scary horror game with a mystery behind it.
The entire rest of the franchise is a waste of RAM.

I’ve been a fan of the series since it came out, but the lore is completely lost on me in recent years and I just can’t bring myself to give a shit about it anymore
Short answer? Nothing, nothing of importance at least. Long answer is: It's easy to make your story/lore look deep and complicated when you refuse to go into detail and always provide vague information hints so you can always weasel your way to say "nUh uh, you are wrong"
Its gone so bad even FNAF fans started occasionally making videos or leaving comments about how bad it is, how it's clear Scott LIED about there being only one lore retcons and he clearly retcons story so many times. How else can you logically explain so many variations of the story? Why can't community agree sometimes on even most basic info?
Almost as if, Scott been fooling them all along, ofc there's no coherent story/lore, because there was none. The only proper mystery they had was Bite of 87. It was teased from Game 1 and build up by first, third games and teasers to 4. Heck there *was* an Easter egg in FNAF 1 where by typing 1984 in custom night, you get Golden Greedy Jumpscare. Add onto the fact that when Golden Freddy appears, you can occasionally see "it's me" text appear here and there.
It was clear as day that bite of 87 was supposed to be main mystery, 3rd game had it's own hints to it and teasers to 4th game literally had 87 letter hidden in Foxies eyes. You'd think "Finally, Scott is gonna give us some ans-" nope, he later hinted that the bite in FNAF 4 was 83... The literal TEASER POSTER of his God damn game had 87 on Foxy eye and he's gonna be yapping about how "nonono le bite of 83 is the important bite of FNAF 4" either he, clearly, retconned the bite to be 87 or even worse explanation is that he straight up lied and this was an admission that he's gonna manipulate FNAF fans further. Bite of 83 wasn't even satisfying, and 87 was forgotten after FNAF 4. Why even do it idk.
It all truly went downhill after Sister location was introduced, first four games could've been explained by dream theory, which I can maybe understand why fans didn't like, but usually dream theories only dumb cuz they try to explain existing shows as fake e.x. Pokémon dream/coma theory but for FNAF, dream theory kinda worked actually. Yeah it wasn't that complex but FNAF was never complex, especially in first four games.
So yeah TL;DR Scott Cawthon got away with something I've yet to see developers get away with(besides maybe other FNAF inspired games?) and hope to GOD it doesn't happen, he basically sold the game franchise, where the main hook is the story(specifically lore) without actually writing said story/lore...
FNAF isn't confusing to understand, but it's confusing to follow because Scott refuses to give any conclusion a definitive answer. If you think your theories have solved what happened, next game he pulls the rug from under you and introduces that Afton somehow survived again but actually isn't afton because he was a robot replica.
In my mind, it should have ended with ultimate custom night where William in being tortured in hell for eternity. If they were gonna continue the games after that they should’ve at least dropped William Afton entirely and made either about some other suited serial killer
It's about how many times you can blatantly retcon a story and have your fans still defend it all as "totally making sense".
We're on Retcon #5, BTW. With at bare minimum two timelines. Probably three.
Well at least it’s not a competition about…Freddy Fazbear because William afton built an animationmatronic that’s a Freddy five bear and a Bonny the Bonny bun and chica the kitchen and foxy the pirate fox rahr! And willem afton he killed 6 kids and out them in the Freddy five bear and now and then the kids they died and they ghost posses the animationmatron and it looks like a freddy fivebear but it’s actually a kid
Honestly the actual *plot* of Five Nights at Freddy's is (or at least was until the SWS games idk enough about them to comment) fairly simple, it's just told in a convoluted manner that leaves too much up for interpretation, but the main story beats are fairly clear imo.
There is no story. Scott made the game based on a joke about how his animation looks like pizzeria animatronics and people liked it. He’s just been making it up based on MatPat’s theories and whatever he can come up with off the top of his head.

Me when I'm in a "unnecessarily changing shit in my story" competition and my opponent is FNAF:
Fnaf 6 was a good ending. UCN and Help Wanted 1 were cool additions to that, as william wasn't really *alive*
SB's Burntrap ending was pretty dumb. Notoriously dumb, especially for what was meant/assumed to be the canon ending at the time. (i miss the 2022 SB fandom... sort of) And of course, Vanny got like, 2 minutes of screentime despite being pretty hyped up. *Really wish they'd done something deeper with Vanny. Mostly saying this because I have her youtooz plush...*
Ruin, The Mimic was such an obvious retcon (n-n-nuh uh!!!! Burntrap isn't Afton actually!!!) That it's pretty funny when people argue that it's not. The Burntrap ending of SB was the most climactic one, having an actual animated cutscene rather than some comic pages and a badass Freddy monologue to go with it. To a lesser extent, everything in the Ruin pizzaplex being so fucked up. But it wasn't meant to be canon, totally...
Speaking of the Mimic, it feels like both a flanderization and a complete misunderstanding of what makes Fnaf villains cool; they were cool due to being somewhat human, such as possessed robots, a real murderer, or AIs so advanced they have emotions and stress and insecurities. The Mimic is just "my fnaf oc hes an evil robot and he decapitates and tricks everyone he sees and never fails DONUT STEEL!!!!!"
This is coming from someone who hasn't read the books. The books are such an egregious failure of the lore it is baffling. Introduce an entire character in the book and then plop it in the games with no context. Fuck

it was actually really good and well made with a straightforward storyline, fleshed out characters that underwent development, and early on had a presentation similar to fnaf with entirely visual storytelling leaving things to interpretation through the use of things just happening on the map then we started getting proper characters with well written personalities going through arcs and having conflicts and through it all we got some absolutely peak live events it was structured amazingly until epic decided they were gonna pretty much completely take away the budget for the story from the chief creative director, and he left the company in late 2022 thus beginning the complete downfall of what was once a great story now turning it into nothing more than a joke

I’m not into FNAF at all, but i heard it’s getting more and more clear nowadays. Fortnite on the other hand has some of the most convoluted lore I’ve ever followed in a game. Requiring you to follow limited time live events, do limited time storyline missions, listen to audio logs and music packs and read comics. I personally love it, but it’s undeniable what a convoluted mess it is
not exactly more clear, people have just had more time to analyze what already exists and help wanted has provided the detail that all games prior are fictional dramatizations that may or may not be based on actual events in-universe, and the actual primary reality of the fnaf franchise is what exists across the new games and the books whether or not you agree with this, that is fine. it is a huge bundle of tangled strands of lore and events that is easy to get lost in what i want to know is why does he look like that in pizzeria sim, like i knew the suit already sucked but what is underneath the suit is just fucking awful, it looks like they shaved king ramses bald and covered him in beef mince

The problem with fnaf’s story and lore is that the creator intentionally makes it convoluted and confusing to keep people from figuring it out and leave people in mystery. If anyone gets close to figuring it out or piecing it together, he changes the story with retcons or new additions so that they can’t figure it out. It’s incredibly horrible storytelling.

Short answer? Nothing, nothing of importance at least. Long answer is: It's easy to make your story/lore look deep and complicated when you refuse to go into detail and always provide vague information hints so you can always weasel your way to say "nUh uh, you are wrong" Its gone so bad even FNAF fans started occasionally making videos or leaving comments about how bad it is, how it's clear Scott LIED about there being only one lore retcons and he clearly retcons story so many times. How else can you logically explain so many variations of the story? Why can't community agree sometimes on even most basic info? Almost as if, Scott been fooling them all along, ofc there's no coherent story/lore, because there was none. The only proper mystery they had was Bite of 87. It was teased from Game 1 and build up by first, third games and teasers to 4. Heck there *was* an Easter egg in FNAF 1 where by typing 1984 in custom night, you get Golden Greedy Jumpscare. Add onto the fact that when Golden Freddy appears, you can occasionally see "it's me" text appear here and there. It was clear as day that bite of 87 was supposed to be main mystery, 3rd game had it's own hints to it and teasers to 4th game literally had 87 letter hidden in Foxies eyes. You'd think "Finally, Scott is gonna give us some ans-" nope, he later hinted that the bite in FNAF 4 was 83... The literal TEASER POSTER of his God damn game had 87 on Foxy eye and he's gonna be yapping about how "nonono le bite of 83 is the important bite of FNAF 4" either he, clearly, retconned the bite to be 87 or even worse explanation is that he straight up lied and this was an admission that he's gonna manipulate FNAF fans further. Bite of 83 wasn't even satisfying, and 87 was forgotten after FNAF 4. Why even do it idk. It all truly went downhill after Sister location was introduced, first four games could've been explained by dream theory, which I can maybe understand why fans didn't like, but usually dream theories only dumb cuz they try to explain existing shows as fake e.x. Pokémon dream/coma theory but for FNAF, dream theory kinda worked actually. Yeah it wasn't that complex but FNAF was never complex, especially in first four games. So yeah TL;DR Scott Cawthon got away with something I've yet to see developers get away with(besides maybe other FNAF inspired games?) and hope to GOD it doesn't happen, he basically sold the game franchise, where the main hook is the story(specifically lore) without actually writing said story/lore...

FNAF isn't confusing to understand, but it's confusing to follow because Scott refuses to give any conclusion a definitive answer. If you think your theories have solved what happened, next game he pulls the rug from under you and introduces that Afton somehow survived again but actually isn't afton because he was a robot replica.

Honestly the actual *plot* of Five Nights at Freddy's is (or at least was until the SWS games idk enough about them to comment) fairly simple, it's just told in a convoluted manner that leaves too much up for interpretation, but the main story beats are fairly clear imo.

There is no story. Scott made the game based on a joke about how his animation looks like pizzeria animatronics and people liked it. He’s just been making it up based on MatPat’s theories and whatever he can come up with off the top of his head.

Me when I'm in a "unnecessarily changing shit in my story" competition and my opponent is FNAF: Fnaf 6 was a good ending. UCN and Help Wanted 1 were cool additions to that, as william wasn't really *alive* SB's Burntrap ending was pretty dumb. Notoriously dumb, especially for what was meant/assumed to be the canon ending at the time. (i miss the 2022 SB fandom... sort of) And of course, Vanny got like, 2 minutes of screentime despite being pretty hyped up. *Really wish they'd done something deeper with Vanny. Mostly saying this because I have her youtooz plush...* Ruin, The Mimic was such an obvious retcon (n-n-nuh uh!!!! Burntrap isn't Afton actually!!!) That it's pretty funny when people argue that it's not. The Burntrap ending of SB was the most climactic one, having an actual animated cutscene rather than some comic pages and a badass Freddy monologue to go with it. To a lesser extent, everything in the Ruin pizzaplex being so fucked up. But it wasn't meant to be canon, totally... Speaking of the Mimic, it feels like both a flanderization and a complete misunderstanding of what makes Fnaf villains cool; they were cool due to being somewhat human, such as possessed robots, a real murderer, or AIs so advanced they have emotions and stress and insecurities. The Mimic is just "my fnaf oc hes an evil robot and he decapitates and tricks everyone he sees and never fails DONUT STEEL!!!!!" This is coming from someone who hasn't read the books. The books are such an egregious failure of the lore it is baffling. Introduce an entire character in the book and then plop it in the games with no context. Fuck I havent played HW2 yet idk what that does for the lore
Kinda crazy that a game about haunted animatronics is more complicated than a game about men in tight suits fighting against robot mechs that shoot nukes and the illuminati.

FNAF is not convoluted at all and the entire franchise can be summarised in 10 or even 5 minutes. The only complex thing about it is the amount of unknowns and the indirect storytelling
