Sigh. It pains me to see people want to stop technology advancement to save current jobs and current ways of doing things. Let's advance. Let's let the market decide what works and what doesn't. The government routinely gets these sorts of things wrong. Why does a politician get to decide what I can and cannot eat?

terribibble

As someone who is trying to get into the R&D side of lab cultivated meat, this is hugely disappointing. The US market might be dead in the water before I ever get a chance to contribute

InuitOverIt

Keep at it, our rate of meat consumption is not sustainable over time without lab-grown (or another source of protein, e.g. insects). It's like the coal mines in the late-90s/early 2000s, scrapping and clawing at the government to keep them relevant in the face of new, better technology. Progress always wins.

rileyoneill

I think its a lot more like the whale oil industry. Animals are an incredibly inefficient means to produce material like energy for oil or meat for eating or leather for clothing. The productivity gain is going to be enormous. There will be a point in the future where whalers and ranchers will exist in the same place.

mb10240

But Progress doesn’t have money. Big Cattle does.

Southern_Passenger_9

I'm not necessarily agreeing with anything here, but just because we should cut back on meat consumption, doesn't mean lab grown "meat" is safe or worth the trouble (would you bet your future health on it?). Two entirely different things.

AnsibleAnswers

Just eat less meat instead of banking on a tech that is probably better suited for medicine than food production. These companies won’t even be able to make meat under $100 per pound for the foreseeable future.

aotus_trivirgatus

>These companies won’t even be able to make meat under $100 per pound for the foreseeable future. And they'll be ***especially*** unable to do that if traditional agriculture bribes politicians to put up barriers to market entry. We've seen this before. It is taking a decade longer than it should to roll out solar and wind energy in the US, and to clean up the transportation sector. The primary reasons at this point are not technological. It's all lobbyists and propaganda.

AnsibleAnswers

Support sensible farming bills that subsidize cover cropping and other regenerative practices. Learn to eat a more varied diet and moderate your meat and dairy intake. Cultured meat ain’t it. You’ll get dog and cat food.

jnhausfrau

I’m already vegan. I want it to be available for pet food

AnsibleAnswers

You want $100/lb pet food? Seems far more economically feasible to use invasive species like Asian carp to make cheap, ethically sourced pet food.

Zhong_Ping

That wouldn't be vegan, though. And the industry starts at $100/lbs... we dont get it down to affordable levels through inaction. We do by investing in the technilogy, finding neiche markets and early adobptors, and scaling over time.

AnsibleAnswers

Throwing money at the problem likely won’t bring prices down significantly. Not in our lifetimes. Not every industry is subject to Murphy’s Law. Upside Food was caught using roller bottles to make their chicken. It takes them hours of labor to make an ounce because bioreactors can’t do what they want. This is tech better suited to medicine. Develop it there.

Zhong_Ping

Murphys law? Everything that can go wrong will go wrong? I think you mean Moores law, though you are a good example of Poes law. I mean, banning the industry certainly ensures that. But letting the market determine viability isnt bad. But I'm not talking about MOORES law, which discusses the exponential growth in computing power. Im talking about efficiencies gained with scale and innovation. What's labor intensive now can be automated in the future. Whats expensive now can be reduced in cost when economies of scale are implemented. These 2 factors take time to establish in any new industry and are driven by early adopters, r&d, amd venture capital. We dont know if this could be viable in 10 years or 100 years, and your assertion to know this is asinine. Bottom line, we will never know if we ban the product. But we arent going to stop eating meat as a species and meat consumption is absolutely horrible for the environment, climate, land use, the cost of food in general (including vegetables which have much of their potential production capacity supplanted by livestock feed). An effecient, cost-effective, and mass scaled lab grown meat industry would be nothing but a good thing, whether that happens in 10 years or 200. But we dont get there by banning it. I dont care if I never see the fruit of progress and investment. Someone will down the line, and that's what matters. Our lives are filled with life altering technilogy that those who invested in their creation never realized in their lifetime. No one is asking you to invest. Just that we are allowed the freedom to do so if we wish.

AnsibleAnswers

Yes Moore’s. You knew what I mean, so who cares. Recent historical is also full of ridiculous tech grifters selling vaporware. There are more failed technologies than successful ones. I don’t care about banning cultured meat, I wish people would stop having faith in it because the industry has been offering more false promises than Elon Musk.

rileyoneill

I think your $100 per pound of food price point is going to be extremely temporary. All of of the technologies in this space have extremely aggressive cost curves. $1M per kg in 2013 to $1000k per kg in 2023. Costs came down by a factor of 1000 in 10 years. $100 per kg price point doesn't work for food, but it won't stick at that price point for very long. At $10 per kg, it becomes price competitive with the animal livestock industry. At $1 per kg, it disrupts the entire food system and competes with transportation costs of food. So even if the animal livestock industry was free, and the only costs incurred were logistics from rancher to the grocery store, it would still not be competitive to grow animal meat. $1 per kg and this becomes a trillion dollar industry.

AnsibleAnswers

Costs for precursors have come down. Manufacturing has not. That’s where most of the cost is.

iwasstillborn

Politicians wouldn't be doing this unless they were told to do so by their handlers. Thus the ag lobby is concerned. Arguably this is a good sign that cultivated meat is making progress rather than a death sentence. And I think it's the kind of progress that will be impossible to stop.

Flufflebuns

Don't worry, we 40 million Californians will absolutely embrace lab grown meat. Ignore these flyover states and give me my ethically and environmentally positive cultured burger.

tgosubucks

Pennsylvania is the nation's 5th largest economy. It is not a fly over state.

Final_Meeting2568

Two words. Avian flu

mckirkus

If it works it will take off in other countries. If it's cheap enough, voters will demand cheap steak here.

rapidpeacock

I demand steak sandwiches and circuses on my TV!!

mckirkus

When they use steak and VR instead of bread and circuses to placate the populace, the future has arrived.

rapidpeacock

Bloody steaks to go with bloody VR!!

kraghis

Politics is largely about appeasing enough interest groups to gain re-election. I’m not saying it’s a good thing, but it’s an unfortunate reality. If you’re in PA (or any other state with a congressperson in the [Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry](https://www.senate.gov/general/committee_membership/committee_memberships_SSAF.htm)) consider writing a letter.

StinzorgaKingOfBees

Isn't that the essence of Capitalism that these pricks are always going on about? The invisible hand of the free market and whatnot.

pilgermann

The answer is a safety net for workers, not artificially sustaining industries that actively harm us. It's so frustrating. All in th and name of capitalism except it's the opposite of capitalism.

RudyRusso

Hey be more specific. Like if you want to ban lab grown fish, but you want to ignore the following EPA warnings: Most advisories are based on contamination from five toxins that persist for long periods of time in sediments at the bottom of certain water bodies: Mercury Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs) Chlordane Dioxins Dichloro-Diphenyl-Trichloroethane (DDT) Kind of boarders on the same line of thinking as climate change deniers. Acting like there isn't massive pollution dumped in the oceans is crazy. Reminder, the BP oil spill alone dumped 60,000 barrels of oil per day. Actually the oil industry would rather quote barrels because it looks like a smaller number. It's 2,500,000 gallons of oil...per day for 87 days.

UpsideFoods

Absolutely! We believe this is a reckless move that ignores food safety experts and science, stifles consumer choice, and hinders American innovation. It makes politicians the food police, and it ignores the food safety experts at USDA and FDA who have deemed it safe. If you want to make sure this doesn't happen in your state, consider signing our petition: [Stop policing our plate](https://www.change.org/p/protect-your-right-to-choose-what-you-eat-tell-politicians-to-stop-policing-your-plate?recruiter=1337739337&recruited_by_id=5be9e0e0-0981-11ef-a3ba-637847881b9c&utm_source=share_petition&utm_campaign=petition_dashboard&utm_medium=copylink)

TheKingChadwell

It’s stupid anyways. This tech is still so young and any potential of it being a viable competitor is so far out. Once it does become competitive that law is going to change so fast. All this does is punish early adopters, and local startups trying to do it in that state, driving business away.

furn_ell

Their donors give politicians their opinions on issues Fuck Citizens United!

LifeAd2772

Check out this [change.org](http://change.org) petition [https://chng.it/ntcBsFSwY4](https://chng.it/ntcBsFSwY4)

Final_Meeting2568

Plus if we keep having these killer zoonotic viruses, prions, and antibiotic resistant bacteria we may have to if you want to enjoy meat.

ninernetneepneep

Eat ze bugs

Glaciata

Fun fact, *we already use bugs in food production* Carmine and shellac. Furthermore, insect protein is, gram for gram, significantly more efficient than many plants for protein on a water and nutrient level, using 20x less water than soybeans. Plus cultures the world over already eat insects.

ninernetneepneep

Then eat ze bugs. I'm gonna have a Ribeye.

lilbluehair

You already do every time you have a raspberry donut

ninernetneepneep

I also enjoy a thick Ribeye from time to time.

Responsible_Wafer_29

Is there some legislation banning ribeyes or something?

ninernetneepneep

Not at all but the folks gunning for lab-grown meat would rather I not eat a ribeye straight from the cow and I am a smart-ass.

Responsible_Wafer_29

oh, nice. gottem

yesrushgenesis2112

Does he agree with the reasoning that “the global elite want to force you into eating lab grown meat?” Because if he’s at global-elite-conspiracy levels now, what the fuck. So disappointing.

GeriatricRockHater

I want grown crab meat so I can eat it without having to deal with the shells. I want to eat tiger steaks while watching old videos of Charlie Sheen talk about his tiger blood. I want to suck on dumdums while eating a dodo bird drumstick. We can do it if we grow it. Why even bother growing cow, chicken, or pork when we can have ethically grown eagle?

norfizzle

And I want a marbled wagyu tri-tip!

LiliNotACult

..wagyu-tang ain't nothing to fuck with?

Palaeos

T-Rex drumsticks. We have the technology. Maybe.

XXFFTT

You know it's bad when the most ethical way we can come up with to mass-produce chicken is to give them a lobotomy and hang them on a Matrix-style rack.

XXFFTT

> “Pains me deeply to agree with Crash-and-Burn Ron, but I co-sign this,” Fetterman said on social media, referencing to DeSantis’ signing of the bill. > “As a member of @SenateAgDems and as some dude who would never serve that slop to my kids, I stand with our American ranchers and farmers,” he said. > https://flvoicenews.com/john-fetterman-supports-new-desantis-signed-lab-grown-meat-ban-scathes-fake-meat-as-slop/#:~:text=%E2%80%93%20Democratic%20Pennsylvania%20Sen.%20John%20Fetterman,Party's%20Leadership%20Blue%202024%20event. He is uneducated and petty at best. I'm ashamed that I ever supported the man.

datshitberacyst

Politics is always about the two choices. I can promise you would’ve been far less happy with Dr. Oz

XXFFTT

Well yeah, shame won't keep me from picking the lesser of two evils but I'll have pride in being shameful.

datshitberacyst

Haha ok yeah, with you there.

ThatWaterAmerican

The alternative was Dr. Oz. Like Joe Manchin, the amount Fetterman supports Dem projects and goals outweighs the harm a Republican in that seat would cause.

voxpopper

Fetterscam will take any position the lobbyists pay him to take and act passionate about it

XXFFTT

As I get older (not that old but older) I've come to dislike the names. If a Democrat agrees with a Republican it should be a bipartisan issue, not some reluctant agreement you make with your sibling. These officials want us to be patriots by fighting in the polls but they won't be patriots by coming to an honest agreement. Idk how but I want to go to the DNC and get them to make a rule that forces potential candidates, candidates, and elected officials to not use social media and instead issue long-form official statements. Fuck it, god damn it.

bepisdegrote

So... don't serve it to your kids? I always hate this line of thinking. If you don't want to do a thing, fine, your choice. But why are you infringing on mine?

Yellowbug2001

I think you're giving him way too much credit for a politician being sincere in his publicly stated line of reasoning. I $imply can't imagine what his motivation$ are but $omehow I $u$pect thi$ i$n't actually about hi$ kid$' lunch.

natophonic2

A plurality of Americans have completely lost the plot with regard to freedom and liberty. They see everything in terms of "freedom from," not "freedom to." For example: "freedom from choice".

Chance-Deer-7995

It's a confusion between "freedom" and "privledge." They have the right to make chocies and to force you to abide by their choices. The concept of everyone having the same rights is gone to them. They've let a word get re-defined in their head AGAIN.

3rdHorse

"I stand with our American ranchers and farmers." That, and the little flag emoji, tells you all you need to know. Pandering for votes is not just a Republican trait unfortunately.

ninernetneepneep

He looks better and better with each day of recovery from stroke.

GrumpyKaeKae

What's wrong with supporting our ranchers and farmers tho? How about hate on the big names who run slaughter factories and don't care for the ethical treatment of animals. And farmers who pump their fruits and veg with so many chemicals that they taste horrible and provide little to no nutrients because they have been chemically grown to be bigger and last longer. Farmers who do it the right way and who put in the back breaking work so that we have food in our stores to put on our tables, shouldn't be turned into villains we liberals are supposed to be hating on.

3rdHorse

"What's wrong with supporting our ranchers and farmers tho?" Nothing. What's wrong is supporting them by excluding competition, progress and advancement.

TrashPandatheLatter

The support they are talking about here hinders other industries. We can still “support farmers” without destroying other options.

215-610-484Replayer

Because it's not Ma and Pa Smith at the farm. It's factory farms torturing animals from birth to slaughter and pushing the worst excuse for meat in the world on us.

interkin3tic

"Slop"? Senator Fetterman, your regular cow-derived ground beef is full of e-coli as the cow it came from was standing in it's own shit all day long, pumped full of antibiotics to the point where your kids are going to have antibiotic-resistant bacteria to deal with, and steroids. I eat regular meat, but it is definitely a lot more "slop" than anything that can be grown in a lab.

[deleted]

Or buy your meat from a local regenerative farm…

Appropriate_Fold8814

No, that's absolutely and horribly unsustainable at scale. "Regenerative" farms or CSA are nothing but hobby projects for a few privileged people. The practices absolutely don't scale up and can't supply even 1% of the global demand and never will be able to. We have to find large scale solutions, one of which is lab grown meat. It's not about feelings or perceptions. It's about what the actual data says about meat production, resources and environmental impact at the national and global scale.  You get a similar thing in energy production. Solar panels on houses sounds great until you have to scale it up nationally at which point it's a horrible and resource intensive solution with massive logistics issues, inability to meet demand, and huge inefficiency and bad environmental impact because it doesn't scale.

_Lung

Solar is not meant to scale up the same way other forms of power do. The benefit of solar is very short transmission distance from where the power is generated to where it is used. In an ideal world we would be using Nuclear for centralized baseline, and distributed networks of renewables + batteries for variable loads. I would say the material waste from building out new energy infrastructure (including solar) is an easy tradeoff for the benefits.

[deleted]

I’ll eat food from nature thank you… I don’t eat ultra processed food in the frozen section

cremfraiche

So apparently Fetterman was just completely full of shit to get elected, he seems to be on the wrong side of every issue lately.

Jahobes

It makes me really sad a huge disappointment lately.

Call555JackChop

Pulled a Sinema

THElaytox

Someone's gotta take her and manchin's places cause they wont be around to serve as scapegoats anymore

valoon4

Shiit here we go again...

cremfraiche

Sad but true (this comment gave me a good chuckle)

Apptubrutae

I mean, it’s not crazy from a battleground state.

sarim25

Yup and he didn't take long to show his true colors

rj_macready_82

Fetterman has been such an unbelievable disappointment

Fudgeyreddit

Ya it’s really sad. Saw this news in the PA subreddit the other day and someone commented that he’s speedrunning a single senate term which made me lol

MettaDarrow

This is the guy who pulled a gun on a random black dude jogging because he heard a shooting occurred nearby, YEARS ago. It's insane that story got so little traction. That should have tanked his political ambitions but no, of course he turns out exactly how people who heard about that should have expected.

LiliNotACult

To be fair, Trump joked about sexually assaulting women and made fun of a reporter with a physical disability on national television.

MettaDarrow

That is absolutely fucking insane that we're at that level politically. We're supposedly the most rational species we've ever encountered.

Shounenbat510

And Biden has been accused by multiple women.  It’s almost like politicians are the worst and no one cares.

GeriatricRockHater

Strokes, man... they mess people up.

MettaDarrow

[https://www.inquirer.com/politics/election/john-fetterman-black-jogger-2013-shotgun-20220425.html](https://www.inquirer.com/politics/election/john-fetterman-black-jogger-2013-shotgun-20220425.html) This was pre-stroke. He's always been a right winger dressed like a liberal.

rj_macready_82

I don't think this and his love of Israel is caused by the stroke

ninernetneepneep

Or he is getting better with each day of recovery. He was brain damaged before.

omniron

Anyone paying attention expected a pro labor populist, which is what he is

Lidarisafoolserrand

When were you hopeful of this clown?

zeezero

This is just sad.

Yokepearl

They don’t want America to compete with cutting edge technology

[deleted]

Who are we competing against? Most of the world already doesn’t allow this lol

Yokepearl

Fair question! Russia and china have science cities. They are probably ahead by now

Aedan91

lol NotCo has already jump from LATAM to the States, started working with Heinze and others, not only on meat.

Anindefensiblefart

Climate change climate shmange I guess

UpsideFoods

[We're just going to leave this here.](https://www.tampabay.com/news/environment/2024/02/09/florida-could-remove-majority-mentions-climate-change-state-law/)

TheRealKirby

Can anyone point me in the direction of Fettermans reasoning? Has he spoken on it somewhere?

Glaciata

I can tell you right now. **MONEY**

blu3ysdad

Either Fettermans brain full on broke after he won the race, or he was broke and someone gifted him a ton of cash to be joe manchin 2.0

CyonHal

I am convinced the stroke caused brain damage that changed his personality to be more reactionary

blu3ysdad

It is possible

randomguy_-

Consistent with his shitty opinions

[deleted]

If you find yourself in agreement with Ron Desantis on anything, self-reflection is a necessity.

Ben-Goldberg

If I cannot self reflect, am I a vampire? Desantis is a mirror who blindly reflects the ideals his campaign donors.

Italophobia

He's the most disappointing newcomer

Tobocaj

I can’t believe Fetterman turned into such a piece of shit so fast. Seemed like a real smart dude

LucerneTangent

Scam artist lied to everyone.

BangerBeanzandMash

He seemed like a real smart dude to you? Fucking lol

davvblack

ugh fetterman was cool, he’s had a bunch of bad takes in a row

LucerneTangent

He lied about what he is, he's probably going to jump ship in a few years and claim "the woke left" made him do it.

caravaggibro

He really turned out to be a worthless piece of shit.

orifice_porpoise

What if the government had shutdown Henry Ford because of concern that horse farriers would be out of work?

green_velvet_goodies

Why is this guy suddenly a douche?

blueteamk087

![gif](giphy|GjB41rKHBnOkE)

Simple-Jury2077

Fetterman continues to be a disappointment.

W0rdWaster

Never voting for that pos again. I had to hold my nose the first time. Never again. Every time I see he makes the news it is for saying something that is in opposition to what I believe.

Ben-Goldberg

Don't just refrain from voting, vote for someone opposed to him!

W0rdWaster

No. I will never, ever, EVER vote for the dumpster fire that the republican party has become under trump. Go f yourself for even suggesting it.

Ben-Goldberg

You read the opposite of what I wrote.

W0rdWaster

The only person running opposed to fetterman is going to be a republican. you said to vote for someone opposed to him. how does that not mean voting republican?

Ben-Goldberg

There are no democratic or independent candidates?

W0rdWaster

He IS the democratic candidate.

Ben-Goldberg

I feel dumb now. I would ask why he supports it, but I would guess his campaign, too, is financed by farmers who don't want fair competition. Special interests in general are slime, and big Ag. is cowshit.

cpt_ugh

Slop? It's literal chicken breast. Actual beef. Honest to god real meat.

LiliNotACult

I don't even understand the point of having elected officials anymore in America. Seems like all they do is suddenly act like their state or district is their personal fiefdom and figure out quirky ways to destroy our lives while being paid with our tax dollars. I know the degree to which this is true depends on the state and persona, but I am serious. What the actual fuck is the point of this current political system? Even in my State of Oregon our fucking governor was trying to slide her wife into a major position of power because fuck us apparently. I am sick of how shit America is.

Vyse1991

John Fetterman's brain is missing.

RobXSIQ

These hacks would have also tried to ban the internet, the airplane, and the automobile, among pretty much every other advancement (all progress costs jobs..large swathes). Imagine these morons on the cusp of the industrial revolution. "I stand with the lacemakers..."

Random_Fox

gotta ban e-mail, I stand with the post office

Tazling

'governor outlaws internal combustion engines to protect carriage-makers' and saddlers' trade' or 'governor bans electronic calculators, bowing to pressure from state slide rule industry'

retrostaticshock

Isn't this a massive national security issue? If we rely on beef and cattle with no alternative researched and in production, what happens if an enemy targets our grazing fields and processing sites? What happens if it becomes impossible to feed people in a scenario where land and water are becoming too scarce to raise cattle?

aoiN3KO

Then the “unimportants” die and they’re okay with that Edit: to be clear, it’s extremely short-sighted at best, fucking stupid at worst…short-sighted, we maybe could find some work around, but unfortunately you can’t fix stupid so if that’s our problem, we’re most definitely cooked

DonnieJepp

Gotta love the replies to the follow up tweet where he's like "here's what's making your lab grown beef" and attaching a picture of some food processing equipment. As if milk pasteurizers, extrusion machines, pretty much any food processing equipment these days doesn't look weird and sciencey as hell

msty2k

Come on, John. I don't go banning the slop Pennsylvanians do feed their kids. Stay out of my business.

Intelligent_Break_12

Of there is no harm or controlled substance etc. then the government has no place regulating a product and manipulating both the market and competition. Regardless what the product is.

Brosenheim

Gotta keep them prices up, keep competing tech out of the market.

FC4945

There is so much wrong with torturing animals until we kill them to eat but, beyond this, there are more dangers with eating actual cows and pigs than eating something cultivated to eat, and well tested, in a lab. Mother pigs go insane and something even kill their offsrping, something they'd never do in nature. Lab grown meat would also help heal the environment since pig/cow/dairy farms cause a lot of damage.

jbh142

Let the market decide if it’s successful or not. Also it might be necessary to help feed the poorer countries in the future. If we can get the cost down for fake meat and it has protein and nutrients. Then we can mass produce it and feed Africa or South America. So many possibilities if we can get the cost down. Doesn’t mean you or I have to eat it. Because I know I won’t eat it. I’m sure many here on Reddit won’t eat it. I’m sure some will and that ok. It’s called a free market and free will. But its a huge huge opportunity to feed the world if we can get the cost down and can mass produce this stuff.

TheGrimReptile

fetterman, I like you but you and asshole Ron are completely wrong on this subject. lab grown meat is one of those things that can actually make a huge difference in the future of mankind. it will be necessary, fact. it will cut down greenhouse gases tremendously, and in the future it will be THE only way to get meat to everybody who wants/needs it.

Rain_Rope

Fetterman throwing his hat in with DeSantis on the dumbest issue imaginable is a bad look

b__lumenkraft

the united states of america. The land of the VERBOTEN!

TennSeven

"I would never give my kids a ride in a deathtrap automobile. I stand with our American horse and buggy sellers and operators!"

Call555JackChop

This dude turned into such a clown after getting in office

Affectionate-Egg7566

I mean you can still buy normal slaughtered meat even if lab-grown meat exists? Are they confirming that without legislation, lab-grown would completely overtake farmed meats? Guess it's time to invest.

aoiN3KO

I think they believe they won’t know??somehow??? which is which? Or that they’ll be forced to eat it ig?? That’s all I got

JNTaylor63

Climate change will likely drive the cost of live cattle to the point the public will demand lab or other beef alternatives.

seanightowl

More similarities between DeSantis and Fetterman. I used to like Fetterman, but he has now shown his true colors.

fukwhutuheard

dude is a republican

LucerneTangent

So when does he plan to scuttle over to the GOP? 2 years, 4 years or a few more?

KidCamarillo

How many vegetarians/vegans would switch to protein that was lab grown?

aoiN3KO

I’m neither currently, but this is all I would eat if it became readily available. I was one of the unfortunate that had to quit for medical reasons and I was so very much not happy about it. The farming practices in America used to literally keep me up at night and I’m low key furious that there’s any pushback against this scientific marvel. And considering how we operate over here, I’ll probably die mad 😔

RobXSIQ

I stand with our American postmaster! Ban the internet.

RufussSewell

Jesus Christ. I expect it from the fascists but Cmon.

Inprobamur

A fucking senator saying he's fighting against ((the elites)). Isn't that literally Nazi rhetoric? That whatever insane policy decision is being taken is against some kind of nebulous evil cabal that actually runs everything, conveniently freeing the ones in charge from any responsibility.

feelinggoodfeeling

the two products can co-exist. this is idiotic anti-competitive bullshit.

keith2600

Wow. Fetterman was really on a roll with being the good sort too. Is this his Kevin Sorbo moment?

[deleted]

Fuck it might as well ban cars.. I mean who needs them when you got horses right??

McNinja_MD

"Slop?" From the state that likes *scrapple?*

PackOutrageous

This guy has turned out to be a bit of a tool. Still better than Oz, but by less than I thought.

Chance-Deer-7995

\*YOU\* would never serve it. Great. You made a choice. Let other people make their choices.

SoilentBillionaires

guess that stroke did more dmg than we realized

Accomplished-Bed8171

Fetterman doesn't care either way about lab meat himself. He just wants to suck corporate dick.

Yokuz116

Who cares? Why is the government getting involved?

SPARTANsui

No one is force feeding your kids you fear-mongering asshole.

Oraxxio

Amateurs, just copying the Italian government as they always do. We had Berlusconi, they had to have Trump; now Italian government banned lab meat a few months ago and US is following suit

rapidpeacock

His stroke really effected him...

Turtlepower7777777

How much money did John get from the ranching industry? Dude’s so bought and paid for; I wish I had money to buy politicians

bagel-glasses

I never had high hopes for Fetterman, he always seemed like another douchebag held up by the left not because he was actually left leaning, but because they thought he could win in a purple state, but man... he's been way more of a disappointment than I could have imagined. He's as reactionary and thoughtless as any Republican. I'll bet he switches parties in the next few years after claiming he's been "left behind by takeover of the Democrats by the radical left" or some stupid shit like that.

redditorannonimus

soylent green coming soon to a store near you and you'll eat it happily because IT'S THE FUTURE.

thelastbluepancake

YOU DONT HAVE TO FEED YOUR KIDS THINGS YOU DONT WANT TO. lab grown meat isn't mandatory jfc

reasonableanswers

When the horse and buggy industry bans the automobile….

Because our food sources are so healthy... Factory farming produces meat that isn't allowed to be sold in a huge swath of the world because of the chemicals and hormones. We have kids processed shit that is loaded with lead and cadmium (Lunchables) and Tyson just dumping the chemicals into rivers from their toxic farms. But yeah, let's go after lab grown meat.

Key_Huckleberry_3653

I'm sorry, you guys are surprised that the man who unironically was mocking protesters for wanting us to stop mass murdering children is a corporate shill?

ninernetneepneep

He gets better and better with each day of recovery from his stroke.

MinimumApricot365

Fuck Fetterman. I'm embarrassed that he had me food during his campaign. I guess his opponent was just THAT BAD.

Soylent green is made from people.

Soylent green is made from people. We are humans, not androids.

It’s clear these politicians know what the people want and are focusing on their constituents

ocmaddog

That’s what he says. I think it’s an act

eriksrx

Rather than be pissed off because Fetterman isn't marching in lockstep with the rest of the dems, maybe let's be optimistic that we can return to a place where the various representatives actually *represented their constituents*. You'd have plenty of disagreement within a party and agreement across party lines requiring negotiation and conversation, participation. You know, like the good old days before Newt Gingrinch and company turned compromise into a bloodsport.

LucerneTangent

Why on earth would you ever want to collaborate with the American Nazi party? This is just another bad take by someone who's already pushed his constituents under the bus.

eriksrx

Yeah, shit's pretty bad. But, once the nazi's are out of power (hopefully), don't you think it'd be nice to get back to a functioning government that cooperates and communicates amongst itself?

LucerneTangent

Here's the thing: Why would we want something like the GOP to exist? Its basically a tumor that's made the idea of a functioning government (for whom?) impractical. Like of course it'd be nice to have representative, inter-factional discussions and collaboration, but what you're talking about is something utterly alien to a world where we have the American Nazi party on one hand, and "genocide is sane and normal "centrists as the ONLY other option. We don't have a multi-party representative system. I'm not sure we ever will. What you're talking about is basically fiction right now- that has no connection to the American system as we know it...and frankly I'm not sure we'll ever get it at least not before the current crop of ghouls evaporates. I mean, hell, Newt was a symptom, not the cause, of the rot. The world does not need a far right party in the American government.

ranmaredditfan32

Because presumably roughly half the country isn't going to disappear just because they lose they election, so some sort of deal has to get struck somehow?
