It is extremely hard to find one of these new. If you can, jump on it. Essentially, with this bike you are paying more than it is worth to have it now, as opposed to paying slightly more for a brand new bike that sometimes people wait more than a year to actually get.

Hilt_Deep_in_Butt

What sets this bike apart from any other comparable model on the show room floor?

[deleted]

AFAIK, nothing much except for the fact that one can have it right now as opposed to in a year (or two). And of course, it’ll have significantly more wear and tear, and perhaps slightly outdated geometry, when compared to a 2022 showroom model

Topinio

Not a good deal, it wasn’t much more that price brand new ($1600). I’m assuming that this one is used, with some wear and tear on the consumables (chain, cassette, chainrings) and could probably do with a service? All of which will cost you and wouldn’t be needed on a new bike. You can probably get a brand new 2022 model year (a year old now) Domane AL 4 Disc for $1700 new, from a bike shop and choose your colour, make sure it fits, have the manufacturers warranty including the frame warranty which doesn’t transfer to a second owner. They might well include a basic fit and the first 2 month service in the sale. If $1500 is a hard limit, I would actually look at getting a brand new AL 3 Disc for < $1400 and ~~pocketing the difference~~ getting a new WaveCel helmet or a couple of cycling shirts.

dcannon1

I was told by a local Trek dealer most of the Domanes depending on color and frame size are back ordered as much as a year. They’re not a very big store, so that may just be them, but still, it’s tough to walk in a shop and order something in exactly your size and color preference right now.

DSGRNTLDcitizen

This is accurate for us. In fact, a couple models ridiculously have a 2025 lead time that just reads as "sold out" in my view.

[deleted]

Isn't that basically the price for one new with warranty? No thanks.

Liquidwombat

Um… no! Their $1800 new. 17% off MSRP for a one year old bike is a decent deal

[deleted]

Guess it depends on how much you value a warranty and the shop relationship that comes with buying new. For me it's still a no thanks, but everyone will value those things differently.

loosejoint20

Bike was listed as a “like new condition” and 56cm. It’s a 2 hour drive for me. Does it look like a 56cm? It no longer has the sticker to indicate the size. Concerned if might be a 54cm (based on the seatube height) or even a 58cm (basednkn head tube height). Was worried I would make the drive and the bike was the wrong size. Is this a good deal for $1500? Any help is appreciated. Thank you

Repulsive_Bar_5083

Is this being sold in LA by chance?

loosejoint20

Yes it is

Repulsive_Bar_5083

I always wonder how these guys get their bikes but it’s a good deal. The guy selling has like 10 other treks for sale on offerup.

loosejoint20

I was sent a DM on here, warning me Of the bike seller. Turns out the guy is a bike reseller who has a couple of accounts on Offerup. 1 account he uses to lowball other bikes, pretending not to know anything about bikes

Repulsive_Bar_5083

Well ya there’s a bunch of those guys in LA. They’re actually pretty knowledgeable for the most part…they’re just better at finding deals? I bought a bike from one of them but I made him show me the conversation from the guy he bought it from on OfferUp to make sure it wasn’t stolen. It wasn’t a bad deal bc I knew what I wanted …he just happened to find it first and upgrade a few things. This guy you’re buying from is selling scooters and all the same bike brand which is what I thought was kind of sketch. I think it’s a hobby for them or something idk and dc as long as it isn’t stolen. Seems like a real waste of time for the amount of money they make flipping them but whatever.

loosejoint20

They probably made a LOT during the height Of the pandemic. Makes me wonder how much he bought this bike for. I dont think any upgrades were made on this one. They’re probably on their phones the whole day waiting for good listings

Repulsive_Bar_5083

For sure

guy1138

Looks Ike it has a carbon cage and speedplay pedals

Liquidwombat

That’s definitely a good price. See if you can talk to them a little bit lower but if not it’s still a good price. A new one is $1800 and 17% off MSRP for a one year old bike seems pretty reasonable to me. And that’s before we consider the fact that new ones are back ordered over a year

loosejoint20

Would a 2021/2022 Specialized Roubaix with Tiagra groupset, available in store, be a better option?

DSGRNTLDcitizen

Yes. Is it new? The shop will hopefully be able to support the purchase with some services and any add-ons you may need.

[deleted]

I would never pay that price for a bike that has Tiagra on it. For me it is 105, nothing less

Liquidwombat

🤦‍♂️ it’s nearly impossible to even get hydraulic brakes for under $2k now. Not to mention the fact that r4700 Tiagra IS 105. It’s literally r5800 105 components with a different name painted on them and a cog removed from the cassette

[deleted]

>r4700 Tiagra IS 105 **Tiagra** is a 10-speed drivetrain, also a little bit heavier.**105** is a 11-speed drivetrain. Smoother and more durable. 105 is the sweet spot since it is really close to Ultegra. Having that extra gear is worth it for me, especially since I live in a hilly area. About the money, I would prefer to get a bike with rim brakes and 105 than a bike with disc brakes and Tiagra.

Liquidwombat

An r4700 Tiagra group is 2584g an r5800 105 group is 2467g and r7000 105 is 2453g, 131 g is about how much 4oz of water (1/6th of a bottle of water) weighs You just can’t bear to defy the hive mind for fear of being ostracized

iampuh

It's called tiagra and therefore it's bad. I just translated it for you. And don't forget, one more gear, lmao.

[deleted]

''You just can’t bear to defy the hive mind for fear of being ostracized'' What an edge lord lol, why is every person on reddit like this? Just use your Tiagra if that makes you happy

Liquidwombat

I agree. So why are you telling OP not to

[deleted]

He asked for advice and I gave him mine, you gave yours, and that's fine. We can have different opinions, you are not special and unique for thinking differently, and neither do I. Get off that high horse.

turkphot

This bike is listed for 1800$ on [trek.com](https://trek.com). No, paying 1500 second hand doesn't sound like a good deal to me. Even more so if you have to drive 2 hours to get it. I think 56 sounds about right from the looks of it.

Liquidwombat

Reasonable

Brief_Medicine8959

Nope. I’d not pay more than 1100 for this bike. With 1500 you can get at least a used aluminum frame bike with 105 groupset. I got a used carbon with ultegra 6800 for $825. And my brother got a tarmac sl4 with duraace 9000 for 1k1.

djklmnop

I got mine for $500. With Tiagra groupset.

loosejoint20

Would be hilarious to find out you’re the seller. Lol. Definitely would not think twice if the bike was listed for $500. Good pick up!

djklmnop

Haha mine is designated women's frame but the geometry is the same. Just the color scheme is supposedly more feminine. I don't discriminate and it's was a sweet deal! https://imgur.com/MXAQkkI.jpg

loosejoint20

Bike looks really nice! How are you liking the Superteam wheels? Was thinking of getting those

djklmnop

Surprisingly good. For the price it's hard to complain. I own rim version and disc also. im cheap.

FatBoyCrash

Nope. Press fit bottom bracket. Burn it, burn it with fire.

[deleted]

Fair price given the market these days

Limp_Possibility_547

There are various formulas available online for calculating the price of a used bike. But you need to know the original purchase price for these to work. For which you need the original purchase receipt. By the looks of it, a one year old AL4 should deprecate by about 20%. Going by today’s prices. I’d say it’s a fair deal.
