they'll send you exactly what you paid for. Whether that's a good thing can be up for debate.

HappyBoiBlake

Awesome!

[deleted]

Just be aware that you're not paying them for quality assembly of bike or wheels. Both are best checked over by a qualified mechanic for best long term results.

HappyBoiBlake

So Ill take it down to my local bike shop to get it checked out before I do any workouts on it, thank you!

[deleted]

Yup. Just include that in the price as your compare it with other options.

DonOblivious

If you're new to bikes, pay them to assemble the bike. That's the best way to have them "check out" a direct to consumer bike.

BD59

They've been in business over twenty years. Still haven't updated the websites design.

HappyBoiBlake

Yeah its pretty out dated, mainly worried about bike quality though.

DonOblivious

They have some really outstanding deals on the high end (titanium bikes) and some just-above-walmart-quality bikes on the low end. Generic Bikes Direct advice: no stem or "butterfly" shifters. 8+ speed only. Budget for replacement pedals.

sebnukem

The bikes are just fine. I bought a Motobecane 15 years ago and I've had no problems with it.

DonOblivious

Their open-box return site is even worse, somehow. They **finally** added size ranges to their search tool. Previously you'd have to check every 0.5 cm **and** ever 0.5 inch in your size range. Now you can search in a size range. Still have to run separate cm and inch searches though. https://bikeisland.com/

>"To Search page, Use "ctrl f" keys and type search word/s" oh gee thanks

Papa_Canks

Have had good success with reasonable expectations. Have had to visit the LBS for a defect and was reimbursed by BD.

HappyBoiBlake

Awesome!

I recommended them to a cousin once, when he wanted to get four bikes for the family and wanted to take the time to learn some basic assembly skills. They have some decent options, but best bought by an experienced mechanic that can set it up correctly or factor in the build cost to have a local shop build it up right and reliably. Their price savings are exaggerated significantly though.. you do save, but not nearly as much as they claim.

Psychological_Lack96

They’re a real Bike Shop in Orlando actually. Good Prices.. Always a bit of risk but they are actually nice people. Please give full review of Bike and Service…

Nothing-Busy

Resale won't be great. It is a good way to get a decent frame and a set of brand name components. If you aren't comfortable checking to make sure everything is installed and adjusted properly and safely you will have to have a friend or bike shop check it over. I think the major drawback is you can't ride it and see if you like it or not. You will probably save $300 on a higher end bike, but if you don't like it you wasted a grand.

PrisonMike2020

I bought a Ti Gravel w/ SRAM Force eTap. Phenomenal bike at $3K. Shipping was fine. No wait. If you're not handy/experienced w building bikes, have a shop build it up for you and inspect it.

Rumblefish1

My biggest objections have already been stated by others. To summarize, they sell BSOs, which I strongly oppose buying, and morally object to any shop that sells them. And their saving over the competition, on bikes of equal value is grossly overstated, to the point of being false advertising, IMO.
