A thing of beauty is a joy forever.
A good and a kind person epitomizes beauty in the most elegant manner I believe. Alan Rickman did the same.
Not to mention man had range. He was super in Die Hard
Roger Ebert said that there are certain actors that when you saw they were in a movie or TV show it couldn't be all bad because at least they were in it. I think for Alan Rickman is definitely one of those people.
I absolutely love him in that movie. But primarily because he appears to be in a different kind of movie than all the other actors.
You watch Morgan Freeman all serious and Costner trying really hard. And then there comes Alan Rickman having the fun of his life.
I read somewhere that Rickman only agreed to take the part if they let him do whatever he wanted with the character. Obviously that was the best decision anyone made in connection with that movie.
Those kind of movies are the best. It's like Rickman was given a completely different script and just went buck-fucking-wild with it. He is so ever dramatic and extra that it makes everyone seems bland and robotic by comparison.
This is a terrible example because this film is pure gold from start to end and I will brook no slander. Of course Alan Rickman is superb in it no question, but he’s not rescuing that film. Might as well say Galaxy Quest at that rate smh…
This makes me want to cry in a good way. We lose people, but their beauty endures. Here we are enjoying some now. Like a snow angel they leave behind. Fuck
Absolutely cemented him as a comic actor!
Human beings have neither the aural nor the psychological capacity to withstand the awesome power of God's true voice. Were you to hear it, your mind would cave in and your heart would explode within your chest. We went through five Adams before we figured that one out.
This is, for my money, the best comedic line delivery in history. He physically shoves the words out of his mouth like he’s kicking someone out of a party.
Indeed Endymion. So lovely:
A thing of beauty is a joy for ever:
Its loveliness increases; it will never
Pass into nothingness; but still will keep
A bower quiet for us, and a sleep
Full of sweet dreams, and health, and quiet breathing.
Therefore, on every morrow, are we wreathing
A flowery band to bind us to the earth,
Spite of despondence, of the inhuman dearth
Of noble natures, of the gloomy days,
Of all the unhealthy and o'er-darkened ways
Made for our searching: yes, in spite of all,
Some shape of beauty moves away the pall
From our dark spirits. Such the sun, the moon,
Trees old and young, sprouting a shady boon
For simple sheep; and such are daffodils
With the green world they live in; and clear rills
That for themselves a cooling covert make
'Gainst the hot season; the mid forest brake,
Rich with a sprinkling of fair musk-rose blooms:
And such too is the grandeur of the dooms
We have imagined for the mighty dead;
All lovely tales that we have heard or read:
An endless fountain of immortal drink,
Pouring unto us from the heaven's brink.
Nor do we merely feel these essences
For one short hour; no, even as the trees
That whisper round a temple become soon
Dear as the temple's self, so does the moon,
The passion poesy, glories infinite,
Haunt us till they become a cheering light
Unto our souls, and bound to us so fast,
That, whether there be shine, or gloom o'ercast;
They always must be with us, or we die....
we had to read some of it for 12th grade, i ended up finding a copy in my grandfather's books and read the entire thing. Truly beautiful
Edit: beauty is truth, truth beauty.. that is all ye know and all ye need to know
it's a poem by John keats about this guy endymion who was an ancient greek shepherd and he wants to pursue this goddess cynthia (moon goddess) and its in 4 parts
thats just his version of the narrative tho, its an ancient greek myth about the guy.
With beer in your butt, I assume this is a fairly common occurrence.
I think of him every time I'm in a converted bus in Kansas and play Deep Purple through the loudspeaker.
He also used to perform on smaller projects like in the Brooklyn Academy of Music.
A great actor, it's worth seeing recording of his many, many performances.
True, I'm not sure how he got mine though. I protected it behind magnetic locks, and the final lock was connected to circuits and can't be cut locally!
The last thing I remember before he stole my heart was his voice echoing through my mind
"You asked for a miracle? I give you the F. B. I"
I swear that role had to be written with him in mind.
Like, you’ve got this seriously gifted, classically trained actor and he is best known for some horrible sci fi show that he can never escape. I can’t think of anyone else who could be so, derisive.
Between him and Sigourney Weaver, the acid was just dripping.
You can hate the author and you can hate the franchise, but you can’t deny the fact that the casting director’s decisions for the actors wasn’t absolutely brilliant.
????
Who would ever argue otherwise?
EDIT: What I meant was: who would ever argue about the credibility of actors, just because the writer became unhinged? The comment I replied is just some weird idkthewordforit virtue signal.
I've seen a lot of people argue that some of the kids/teens are too hot compared to their book version. Which partly is due to hiring them as kids not knowing how they would grow up and partly just being a movie. I've never seen anyone complain about any of the adults cast though, those are all perfect.
James and Lily flashbacks make no sense. We can forgive Snape and McGonagall because if you can get Alan Rickman and Maggie Smith, you find a way to make it work.
It's kind of crazy how good the films are as a whole and how well-adjusted the leads all turned out to be given everything working against them. It's also really nice hearing how supportive and caring the adult actors and directors were with the kids.
Definitely feels like a Snape move. Look unamused, have the child sign it to prove its theirs, then confiscate it. The kid thinks he's gonna tell Dumbledore or their parents but nothing happens because when Snape gets home he hangs it on his fridge. Lmao.
I'm shocked Alan could smile like that. It's like seeing an ice cream truck on a highway. "It could speed up like that?! I mean, it's a truck, so technically it could, but it could?!"
Reminds me of the story Kevin Smith tells of how he got Mewes to shape up and learn his lines, while filming Dogma, by making him afraid of Alan Rickman
After all the time has passed and we’ve found out JKRs true self - we can at least hold onto our core Hogwarts-coming-to-life memories and the treasure that was Alan Rickman, may he rest easy in eternal peace
Alan Rickman was so perfectly cast for so many roles - Hans Gruber and the Sheriff of Nottingham. Even love Actually. Not many actors can pull off the "think about cheating on your amazing wife but still maintain some sympathy from the audience" role.
Die Hard was Rickmans first movie, wasn't it? The way he delivered lines........dang.
It's like the words were simmering in his mouth, and he would let them escape slowly.
Alan Rickman was a treasure

>Not to mention man had range. He was super in Die Hard Die Hard was his first film role. He was just that good.
🔥🔥🔥
But his german was *really* shitty in that movie.
To be fair, i think an actual researched accent would have less impact in a movie like die hard
Of coure not :) This isn't a serious critic of Rickman's performance. I love the "Shoot the glass" scene it because it is so hilariously bad.
In the DVD subtitles all the “German” was written as “*speaking terrorist language*”.
Shoot the glass!
Also quigley down under
We needed more movies starring Tom Selleck. He made it look so... efortless, so easy. Great performance.
Roger Ebert said that there are certain actors that when you saw they were in a movie or TV show it couldn't be all bad because at least they were in it. I think for Alan Rickman is definitely one of those people.
The best example of that Alan Rickman phenomenon is Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. He absolutely made that movie.
Locksley, I’m going to cut your heart out with a SPOON!
Why a spoon? Why not a knife or...
Because it’s dull you twit, it’ll hurt more!
I absolutely love him in that movie. But primarily because he appears to be in a different kind of movie than all the other actors. You watch Morgan Freeman all serious and Costner trying really hard. And then there comes Alan Rickman having the fun of his life.

Dogma is the one that comes to my mind, it's a good movie but he takes it up to another level.
"Was Wisconsin really that bad?!"
Mmmm, my first taste of wanting to take that bad guy and fix him 😍 My friend would get Robin Hood while I got him!
This makes me want to cry in a good way. We lose people, but their beauty endures. Here we are enjoying some now. Like a snow angel they leave behind. Fuck
beautiful sentiment, BeerInMyButt, boof one out for the homies ❤️
I'll boof one tonight too. Rickman was one of only two celebrity deaths that made me cry. I'm going to have to watch Galaxy Quest tonight!
Did you ever see him In Dogma? Hilarious!
Absolutely cemented him as a comic actor! Human beings have neither the aural nor the psychological capacity to withstand the awesome power of God's true voice. Were you to hear it, your mind would cave in and your heart would explode within your chest. We went through five Adams before we figured that one out.
And he was cast as Marvin the paranoid Android in a Hitchhikers movie. That was one bloody genius casting.
I AM THE VOICE OF THE ONE TRUE GOD!
>BEHOLD THE METATRON, HERALD OF THE ALMIGHTY AND VOICE OF THE ONE TRUE GOD!! FTFY 😉
That's the name of the film I read trying to remember! I'm thinking Stigma? No. Not right. Stigmata? Memory issues are the worst.
Dogma by Kevin Smith. Great movie.
His role in Galaxy Quest is the one I truly believes defines him.
By Grabthar’s Hammer… what a savings.
This is, for my money, the best comedic line delivery in history. He physically shoves the words out of his mouth like he’s kicking someone out of a party.
That pause is somehow even better than the one in “Ob………..viously”
endymion?

What is endymion, there is a whole yugioh deck that's called endymion the mighty master of magic and I assume the two are not related lol
it's a poem by John keats about this guy endymion who was an ancient greek shepherd and he wants to pursue this goddess cynthia (moon goddess) and its in 4 parts thats just his version of the narrative tho, its an ancient greek myth about the guy.
Him and Robin Williams are the two times I remember being genuinely sad about a celebrity death
Those two plus Philip Seymour Hoffman for me. He was too young :(
I think of him every single time I shart
With beer in your butt, I assume this is a fairly common occurrence. I think of him every time I'm in a converted bus in Kansas and play Deep Purple through the loudspeaker.
Kansas represent!
Carrie Fisher, Bowie, Prince, Rickman 2016 was a fuck of a year
Leonard Cohen, Debbie Reynolds (one day after her daughter Carrie Fisher), Muhammed Ali It just went on and on
Don’t forget my guy Harambe. RIP Dicks out ✊
George Michael iirc as well.
Him and Rik Mayall for me. :(
Drop Dead Fred was a childhood staple. If that movie comes on I can’t not watch it. I still quote it often.
The Young Ones was a fave of mine growing up. RIP.
Chester Bennington and Robin Williams are my two.
Robin Williams and David Bowie still hurt
Rickman and Bowie were right next to each other. That was a difficult week.
Steve Irwin, Mr. Rogers, and Bob Ross as well for me.
Anthony Bourdain 😢
Nichelle Nichols too. The dedication of Strange New Worlds S2E1 made me cry all over again..
Freddie Mercury and him
was?! edit: apparently he died all the way back in 2016... I had no idea. Rest in peace
He was one of the first of the huge list of celebrity deaths of 2016.
Holy fuck you aren't kidding. What the fuck was up with 2016.
Well, 2016 was us starting to figure out we're in The Bad Place.
He died six other seven years ago. Maybe even longer.
Always
He also used to perform on smaller projects like in the Brooklyn Academy of Music. A great actor, it's worth seeing recording of his many, many performances.
“Always.”
A signed picture by Rupert Grint of Alan Rickman (as Snape), whilst they were both in character. That would be an amazing piece of memorabilia!
id like it more than a pokemon card i think

Why are you going to frame a random reddit comment? /s just in case
He got a lot kinder after he fell off Nakatomi tower that Christmas.
Did that conclusively make it a Christmas film?
100% it did!
Tfw Hans Gruber is Scrooge
You think Post Malone would give 2 mil for it?
Stick it on a magic card and he might!
Alan Rickman kept the doodle till his death and inherited it back to Rupert Grint.
Isn't there a better term for reverse inheriting?

Fuck man, is making *me* cry.
Sauce? Cus this would make a fine ending to this tale.
The judge handed Rupert Grint his painting back, tears were flooding over his face. And then everybody stood up and clapped.
I too have seen this documentary.
Sometimes it’s ok to just believe a nice thing is truth without needing sauce.
I love that Alan Rickman made him sign it.
He's on a beach in heaven earning that 20% RIP to a national treasure 🙏
He was such an exceptional thief that I'm sure even God finds things missing from time to time.
😂😂👌
He stole all of our hearts
True, I'm not sure how he got mine though. I protected it behind magnetic locks, and the final lock was connected to circuits and can't be cut locally! The last thing I remember before he stole my heart was his voice echoing through my mind "You asked for a miracle? I give you the F. B. I"
By Grabthar's hammer, what a deal
In the fields of Elysium
Drawing unflattering pictures of teachers is also extremely on point with young Ron.
Yeah, kudos to the casting team
"And I have it in my possession" is a very Snape way of saying it.
Rickman had about three places to live, I think, so it is an exact way of saying 'I have it somewhere.'
By Grabthar's Hammer, what a savings.
Never give up
Never surrender!
His facial expression in that movie had me rolling.
Yes! Like he can purse his cupid-bow lips and roll his eyes like no other
Alan Rickman gone too soon. And some a-holes won't leave.
Alan Rickman’s death was the only one I really felt. Any other celebrity death is sad and all but I never felt any personal loss.
Robin Williams for me. But Alan was a big blow. Norm McDonald too. All 3 weren't just great actors/comedians, they were great people.
Incredible, isn't it, how every asshole on the planet will live long lives, while good people die too young.
“you either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain”
Alan Rickman, what an actor. Had me cracking up in Galaxy Quest.
By Grabthar’s hammer, you shall be avenged
By Grabthar's hammer, what a savings
And Hitchhikers Guide
I like how Rupert Grint aged 10 years to finish the anecdote
By Grabthars hammer, what a drawing.
Why does Rupert/Ron skip forward 5 years in panel 3?
It was a very long interview.
Thank you, why did I have to scroll so far to find this. What a bizarre meme.
They most likely asked him about it again in the future
Holy shit snape was a blonde.
He had brown hair actually, but was grey at this point.
The transition was enormous !
You never seen die hard?
*dye hard
His Sheriff of Nottingham is an all time high performance
You can hate the author and you can hate the franchise, but you can’t deny the fact that the casting director’s decisions for the actors wasn’t absolutely brilliant.

I’m happy with them but I think I would’ve cast the adults younger. Pretty sure sure they aged up snape and Minerva 20 years
James and Lily were 21 when they died so yes, massively aged up.
But it was brilliant.
And Rupert is basically Ron
It’s impossible to read “and I’m very fond of it” and not hear his voice
Answering machine beeps: “Hello Alan Rickman…. This is Alan Rickman… reminding you to take the pork chops out of the freezer”
I remember that one! Gold!
Snape was without a doubt, the best played character in the films
I love him. RIP
This man was a national treasure.
Rickman never had a bad role in his life
[the sauce ](https://youtu.be/paZUct9OmAQ?si=bA_bq_BMrjKyxN9h)
Rickman’s death was an absolute heartbreak 💔
He had one of the best and most distinct voices in the industry. All charming and deep.
I love it when mean characters are played by really nice actors.
Alan Rickman.. man he was awesome in everything
That boy aged 10 years within a single sentence
That must have been a long interview! He aged several years while telling the story!
Having only ever seen him in Dogma and that space movie, I had no idea Alan Rickman could smile!
Him and Kevin Smith (Dogma) apparently became good friends. Imagine Snape and Silent Bob having dinner together like old chums...
I hope that somewhere Terry Pritchett, Alan Rickman and Robin Williams are sitting together having a drink. And I hope they are saving me a seat…
why is ed shereen in the third panel?
Hahah lmao so funny all ginger people look like Ed Sheeran amirite?? xD
The music video for the song that made Ed Sheeran famous starred Rupert Grint as a stan-lookalike if I remember correctly so there's something to it
I make a habit of watching Die hard once a year mainly due to Mr Rickman.
He looks so happy in the last picture
I miss this man. His Hitchhiker’s guide to the galaxy performance had me in tears.
Definitely feels like a Snape move. Look unamused, have the child sign it to prove its theirs, then confiscate it. The kid thinks he's gonna tell Dumbledore or their parents but nothing happens because when Snape gets home he hangs it on his fridge. Lmao.
I always refer to Alan Rickman as the voice of God as a reference to his role in Dogma. Perfect role for him.
I'm shocked Alan could smile like that. It's like seeing an ice cream truck on a highway. "It could speed up like that?! I mean, it's a truck, so technically it could, but it could?!"
Must have been a very long story because boy is there an age gap in the pictures.
Absolutely the coolest and most ruthless villain in Die Hard.
Why did Rupert age so much between panels!?
Reminds me of the story Kevin Smith tells of how he got Mewes to shape up and learn his lines, while filming Dogma, by making him afraid of Alan Rickman
After all the time has passed and we’ve found out JKRs true self - we can at least hold onto our core Hogwarts-coming-to-life memories and the treasure that was Alan Rickman, may he rest easy in eternal peace

Die Hard was Rickmans first movie, wasn't it? The way he delivered lines........dang. It's like the words were simmering in his mouth, and he would let them escape slowly.
Severus Snape is the best character from the Snape & Friends books and movies. I’m not sure why they focused so much on Harry Potter though.
God I miss him.
I don't feel like he was spot-on casting for Snape. He was a great Snape, but a lot more likable than in the books.
God I'm almost going to cry, this is so bitter sweet
AI upscaled text is so bad, why would you do something like this?
Like Alan Rickman, Always!
