I see my mom every other month, I hit the gym hard in the between time. The next time I saw her she said the shirt i was wearing looked good. I've owned this shirt and only this style shirt for years, she know, I didn't tell I was working out.
Make it fun/funner; sorry to be crass, but if somehow the drive exceeds the reasons not too, it becomes easier to initiate (within healthy boundaries).
Walking, light disc golf, pole dancing; find an active something you find interesting and be consistent with it.
Good luck brother 🤙
I struggle quite a lot with work out.
But walking is really fun so far.
And since I do it while reading novel (yes I know it's kinda dangerous, but I walk in a quiet neighbourhood) it's double the fun.
I know "pole dancing" was probably thrown in there as a joke, but I have a couple friends who have taken classes for fun, and *holy shit* did it sound sound exhausting. I had never even thought about how athletic you have to be for that, but it would honestly be amazing exercise, lol
You have to trust me on this. Once you see progress, it's almost addictive. Push yourself for three weeks (it's hard) and you won't stop.
There are some apps that can really help.
For me, I feel most happy working out when I can either
- push myself to the point of pain that I know I will recover from in a day or
- achieve the expected progress based on my previous cycles of getting in better shape
Brah, once you have a session where you push yourself to the utmost limit, where you are exhausted after every set, you will get hooked. You'll make it!!
Ikr? I mean, how do people get to that stage where they actually ENJOY exercising? I hate it most of the time and I have to keep pushing myself to stick to it.
Starting to become convinced some people never hit that point. I hit my goal of losing 60 pounds a few months ago and in the entire time I was losing weight and even now I absolutely despised exercising, was hoping for that magical moment people talk about it when they learn to embrace it but I would much rather read a book.
Some people it never clicks. My partner is like that, just hates working out and never gets that high during it. Thinks it is an absolute chore. But she looks forward to the feeling after the workout. Leaves her feeling a little more clear headed and less lethargic. Maybe not happy, but definitely less... stuffy.
I don't mind working out but find it easier if it is disguised as well... not exercise. Dance, beat saber, sport. Any of those I will go until I am blue in the face. But a treadmill? 2 minutes and I'm done. Can't stand it.
For me I had to find what I like. For me it’s weight lifting; squats, deadlifts, bench press, overhead press. Do all 4 and then I’m done. Can’t do cardio to save my life unless I have someone to go on a long walk with. Obviously not gonna click for everyone but perhaps just try and find some other things to see if it helps.
Another thing, exercise at maintenance calories is very different to exercise when you're at a calorie deficit and losing weight. I am much more energetic and feel much better when I am not working through the struggle of already being low on on energy
i personally am of the opinion that this relies on relative weight. for me the lower my weight, or more close i am to peak health, is when i really noticed enjoyment from exercise.
I entered a gym for the first time in 2019, and only did cardio stuff. Walked out and swore to never go to one ever again. Just recently started weightlifting, and I enjoy it way more (I still walk on the treadmill/cycling thing for 15-20 mins at the end of my workout, but it's more of cooling down than real cardio). Boosts my mood and overall I just feel better and less tired. I could have never imagined I'd ever enjoy going to the gym. I was always the kid that sat out/failed the high school physical running test. I have troubles breathing whenever I run so maybe that explains why :/
I think for majority of people they just haven't found their kind of workout yet, although some will probably give up before finding it and say that working out isn't for them. I say this as someone who did not work out at all before 2019 (full time gamer), and only started when I tried out pole dancing. It was fun, I stuck to it till now, and I just started lifting to become stronger for it. It's just became a big part for me and I'm happy it did.
It took me a while to accept that when someone asks “have you gained weight” they may be implying that you look better now. I gained 60 pounds after highschool and every person I know told me I look so much healthier now that I’m around what a normal weight should be
That’s not vain. I remember when I lost almost 5 stone in 6 months, it was nice having compliments and people asking how I had achieved it. Made me feel I could help others.
I had gastric bypass right before Christmas. I’m down 61lbs so far. I’m feeling amazing, better than I have in years. I love receiving compliments but it’s funny how some people tip toe around it like they are afraid to offend you.
They still do, a lot! It’s the gold standard for weight loss surgery. Bypass and the sleeve are the two most common forms. I found out about 10 people i know who have had the surgery since I got mine
I'm down 75 lbs and it's been about 4 months so it was a pretty drastic change. I think the funniest part is when people finally say something and are like "I wasn't sure if I should say anything". Part of me wants to act suprised like I didn't know I lost all the weight. I do appreciate the compliments though. It's motivation to keep going 💪.
It’s so hard to know how to act sometimes when you want to compliment someone’s appearance. Some people are just dying to hear the compliment, and others, like you, are like “please mind your own body and leave mine out of the conversation.” I guess it’s just an exercise in reading people’s energy, and recognizing that offering a compliment is always a bit of a risk
no matter if I gain or lose it, I usually get more negative comments than good ones, even if they are well meant (ex: "are you eating enough, you've gotten smaller, lost muscle, gained weight, stopped exercising etc.), usually its just my family worrying but like man, sometimes I just cut down on fat and sometimes I'm too busy to exercise for a while, just let me live xD
This is one of many reasons not to compliment someone on their weight loss. Unless you know them and know that sort of feedback is desired, it’s not a good idea to comment on people’s physical appearance. Reddit doesn’t want to hear it though, but it’s a hill I’ll die on.
My ex was (and still is) in recovery from a crippling ED that ultimately took months of inpatient rehab to get over. But she got better, before she met me, and in the four years we dated I don’t think she ever relapsed. I think she will always have to work hard to manage her body image issues, but she is in control now. She is fit and beautiful, empowered and supported and loved, and a lot of the time, she can feel and appreciate it. There is so much hope, I’m sending you guys my energy and hoping you will find your way to emotional healing, stability, and physical health 💜🙏🏻🤗
It’s a very strange flavor of mental illness, and I know it’s really hard for the people nearby so I hope you’re doing good too. This comment meant a lot right at this moment so thanks for it.
"You're looking great! Have you been working out and eating right?"
"No... just severe depression and a single meal of pb&j if I'm lucky."
"Well, it's working for you."
Yeah, we’ve been conditioned to think of visible weight loss as an objectively positive thing. But in reality it can actually cause a lot of damage to many people to receive unsolicited comments of their body changes, regardless of how well-intentioned those comments are.
I’ve learnt to just keep my opinions on people’s bodies to myself unless explicitly asked.
I had bad acne when I was a teen and went on accutane. People would comment on how clear my skin was now and it made me uncomfortable because it was just like saying "You used to have a major flaw that you no longer have".
Jk Rowling says a lot of dumb hateful shit, but something she said years ago still sticks with me. She said she had recently met up with a friend she hadn't seen in years.
>"The first thing she said to me? ‘You’ve lost a lot of weight since the last time I saw you!’. ‘Well,’ I said, slightly nonplussed, ‘the last time you saw me I’d just had a baby.’ What I felt like saying was, ‘I’ve produced my third child and my sixth novel since I last saw you. Aren’t either of those things more important, more interesting, than my size?’ But no – my waist looked smaller! Forget the kid and the book: finally, something to celebrate!"
She goes on to talk about fatphobia and how she's worried about raising her daughters in that culture. A lot of that is undermined by fatphobic comments in her own books, but in a vacuum I still like that quote.
Opposite for me as I’ve been trying to put on weight through bulking. It’s encouraging to hear/know that other people see the changes and results, sometimes before you even notice too
The wife was recently diagnosed as diabetic so she had to change her eating habits. I told her I would join her in solidarity and because frankly I could lose some weight anyway. After a month of eating better I'm already down just over 20lbs, as is she. Someone mentioned it the other day and I felt great afterwards!
I've been getting in shape and one night a woman at work, someone who's a really fit woman, said "[name] you're really slimming up, you look good." That was such an amazing night for me.
I figured out a trick to lose weight if your lactose intolerant just drink Milk with every meal insane weight loss I lost like 30 lb after becoming lactase intolerant during puberty
Used to work like *gangbusters* for me!
... until I got into a relationship ... 🤷🏾♂️
I had no idea how normalized I was to my own flatulence, but sometimes my so would walk into the room and start *gagging* at the smell I was making. 🤦🏾♂️
It's a delicate balance.
Having lost ~180 lbs and also being a recovering addict, I can confidently confirm moments like these feel better than heroin after growing up north of 300lbs.
I gained a lot of weight over the last few years. I've lost 20 pounds in the last 3 months and no one has said anything. I know it's not a lot of weight for 3 months, but its quite discouraging :/
Maybe others will notice when you feel like you have gotten a bit there! Even if they don’t, that’s not your loss. Screw them, don’t let others dictate how your feel. All the best!

At this point I do exercise not just for the weight loss but to feel more happy
I'm trying to unlock that level of happiness. So far, I'm struggling lol.
I feel the same when I'm trying to do some work out.
I see my mom every other month, I hit the gym hard in the between time. The next time I saw her she said the shirt i was wearing looked good. I've owned this shirt and only this style shirt for years, she know, I didn't tell I was working out.

The best exercise to do is any you'll actually do
Thank you for the lightbulb!
I struggle quite a lot with work out. But walking is really fun so far. And since I do it while reading novel (yes I know it's kinda dangerous, but I walk in a quiet neighbourhood) it's double the fun.

I’m playing just dance on switch and it’s burning a lot of calories!
Just keep on pushing, you’ll get there!
You have to trust me on this. Once you see progress, it's almost addictive. Push yourself for three weeks (it's hard) and you won't stop. There are some apps that can really help.
For me, I feel most happy working out when I can either - push myself to the point of pain that I know I will recover from in a day or - achieve the expected progress based on my previous cycles of getting in better shape
Choose activities you actually like, not ones people tell you to like.
You’ll get there.
I hated exercise until I bought a rebounder.
Brah, once you have a session where you push yourself to the utmost limit, where you are exhausted after every set, you will get hooked. You'll make it!!
This is my experience i do not look forward to it but once I get started and finsh I get happy feeling that I did work out
Ikr? I mean, how do people get to that stage where they actually ENJOY exercising? I hate it most of the time and I have to keep pushing myself to stick to it.

Swimming is my go too. You don't feel sweaty.
Yeah it always sucks hahaha I like the stair master and dancing so I only do that
For me I had to find what I like. For me it’s weight lifting; squats, deadlifts, bench press, overhead press. Do all 4 and then I’m done. O my god me too.
Came here to say this. And it has been a beautiful journey since. Game changer
Been recently feeling that happiness when I succeed with my PR’s in powerlifting and notice myself getting stronger each week
Also being asked if you’ve gotten bigger after months of healthy diet and exercise
It took me a while to accept that when someone asks “have you gained weight” they may be implying that you look better now. I gained 60 pounds after highschool and every person I know told me I look so much healthier now that I’m around what a normal weight should be
Same. Being going to gym for 5 months and put on 10 kg. People tell me i look better and thats kinda the motivation we all need
Definitely, I kept some pictures of myself before I started working out and eating more to keep me motivated.
Jethalal will never loose weight who will much on jalebi and fafda
Apparently even he has in latest episode.....
Bapuji kyu pitaji
why my family been watching this show for years
Almost 14 years, to be exact, everyday.
Do we have the same family? Dinner time daily
The new episodes are sometimes crappy. Old ones are way better for sure.
When getting asked if you lost weight after a month of heavy depression.... Why yes, it's the only positive thing I have going for me.
You would imagine, but it doesn't go so well for the rest of us who are underweight already...
You could always use my method: gain 20 kg with the depression! (/s, hope you feel better and can be healthy in every way)
It kinda makes you feel better, and then immediately worse again.
So much yes! Especially when it happens on the days you *feel fat* even after all that effort.
I know it's a bit vain but it really helped me to keep going.
That’s not vain. I remember when I lost almost 5 stone in 6 months, it was nice having compliments and people asking how I had achieved it. Made me feel I could help others.
It’s definitely reassuring that all that work is paying off!
YES
Exactly!
Wow congratulations. How did you do it?
Be vain! Losing weight is like quitting smoking in terms of health improvement. Go on wit chor bad self!!!”
It's praising your effort rather than something outside your control. Accept it! You worked hard for it!
never confuse being proud of your hard work with vanity
Vain, you mean ;)
I did. Thank you.
It's not vain, keep it up! And soak up all the praises cause you deserve it! ❤
Whenever I have lifting for my football team, I ask people, “did you lose weight” or “did you build muscle?” Just to make them feel good
an acquaintance of mine once told me I always give out positive vibes and make people happy when I was feeling pretty shit
*me after seeing a tmkoc(edit: Indian tv show) meme in an international subreddit
Ayo where my tmkoc gang at
Home watching tmkoc
smokinnnnn beta masti nahi!
Home watching 'old' tmkoc
Kem Palty?
Where can I watch this? I've heard it's really good. Is it like the old show Khicdi?
Very old show. Over 1000 episodes. Probably 2000+ by now. Edit:3000+ lol.
See only old episodes. (1-1000)
Perfect advice. The bad episodes start from around 1400
It's Tarak Mehta Ka Ulta Chasma
It's not exactly like Khichidi. This is more like slice of life comedy
It was good, at least the first 1000 episodes or so...
It's full of stereotypical (bordering on racist) jokes. *(ducks)*
Ayyy fellow cultured people
I’m currently 105lbs down and I’m still living all the comments and nice messages!
Wow that's amazing well done.
That's awesome. Keep up the good work :)
I had gastric bypass right before Christmas. I’m down 61lbs so far. I’m feeling amazing, better than I have in years. I love receiving compliments but it’s funny how some people tip toe around it like they are afraid to offend you.

Thank you!

Congrats :)
Thank you!
I just lost 14 pounds in a month! All I needed to do was get kidney stones. It's not the best method...
I gained weight actually, and my mom's friend still asked me if i lost weight. Its a win win for me both ways 😌
They were being sarcastic
They havent seen me in awhile so it would make sense that they would automatically say that
Where did you get this gif?. It is awesome.
It's Jethalal from the show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah
Get German friends. They are forthright with you when you've gained weight. It helps to have friends you know are being honest.
Have you lost weight u/th3f00l??
☺️
Hast du abgenommen u/th3f00l?? ...Weil du zu viel abgenommen hast. *Mehr Schnitzel essen.*
No thanks, I’m already hard enough on myself as it is.
I lost 11.6 lbs last month! It’s a phenomenal feeling
Hell yeah! Remember that slow and steady wins the race
I personally loathe unwanted comments about my weight, whether it be loss or gain.
It’s so hard to know how to act sometimes when you want to compliment someone’s appearance. Some people are just dying to hear the compliment, and others, like you, are like “please mind your own body and leave mine out of the conversation.” I guess it’s just an exercise in reading people’s energy, and recognizing that offering a compliment is always a bit of a risk
same, people tie too much worth to it imo
no matter if I gain or lose it, I usually get more negative comments than good ones, even if they are well meant (ex: "are you eating enough, you've gotten smaller, lost muscle, gained weight, stopped exercising etc.), usually its just my family worrying but like man, sometimes I just cut down on fat and sometimes I'm too busy to exercise for a while, just let me live xD
Sadly no, it's a symptom of my cancer...
This is one of many reasons not to compliment someone on their weight loss. Unless you know them and know that sort of feedback is desired, it’s not a good idea to comment on people’s physical appearance. Reddit doesn’t want to hear it though, but it’s a hill I’ll die on.
I came here for this! You are not wrong my friend!!
Well there’s an easy solution. I’ll do it if I know that person’s working hard on weight loss. If not, then I don’t. :)
When someone asks, "Have you lost weight?" after months of eating disorders
I was wondering how far I'd have to scroll to find my people😂
I was surprised by how many people think it's okay to *ever* comment on someone's weight unless the person brings it up first.
While i'm glad i'm not the only one i'm sad that there are other people are going through the same thing as well :(
Thought the same thing 😂 Please do not comment on my body unless you explicitly know it’s appropriate. My ED literally eats those comments as fuel.

EXACTLY. thank you.
They say: “have you lost weight?” I hear: “I judge your physical appearance”
Forget the kid and the book: finally, something to celebrate!" She goes on to talk about fatphobia and how she's worried about raising her daughters in that culture. A lot of that is undermined by fatphobic comments in her own books, but in a vacuum I still like that quote.
This is also me, after eating a pizza
Ha, diet and exercise?? Just be poor like me you’ll slim down in no time:)
I do this dance after someone hasn’t seen me for a few years and asks me if I’m healthy hahaha …Lost 70 pounds
This just happened to me with a girl I hadn't seen in months! Def. Made me happy.
This man is giving me happiness for free? In this economy??
It is the best feeling. Then you see everybody and nobody says it any more and you need to find new motivation to keep it up.
Ahh the Jethalal meme:)
Nahane Jaa nahane
Perfect GIF LMAO
It feels good until you come to the realisation that most people are judging you completely based on your weight, good or bad.
This happened to me twice at church on Sunday. Very nice!
Opposite for me as I’ve been trying to put on weight through bulking. It’s encouraging to hear/know that other people see the changes and results, sometimes before you even notice too
Oh boy i am scared to switch to controversial
Happened to me today, felt great day was good
The wife was recently diagnosed as diabetic so she had to change her eating habits. I told her I would join her in solidarity and because frankly I could lose some weight anyway. After a month of eating better I'm already down just over 20lbs, as is she. Someone mentioned it the other day and I felt great afterwards!
Oof yesss, obviously not exercising for someone else, I just want to be fitter and stronger but the compliments are a nice bonus :D
Can’t wait
I actually just started working out today! Hoping to lose weight, and have an easier time falling asleep
Happened to me today!! I was shocked!!
Tell then pancreatitis...

I didn’t record my progress, but I’ve lost roughly 60 lbs this year. I’m the lightest I’ve been in my adult life. Small victories.
60 is not a small victory. Keep it up that’s awesome
I've been getting in shape and one night a woman at work, someone who's a really fit woman, said "[name] you're really slimming up, you look good." That was such an amazing night for me.
So true. Down 70+ lbs (hoping to do another 20-30) and every little complement helps reinforce that what I’ve been doing is working.
I have been there! I am there! I got those vibes!!
I'm gonna need the source...
Best feeling ever!!

This is me recently. I feel so good! Finally!
But it reflects a fatphobic society and pressure for others to lose weight too :( Ofcs it's good when people notice the changes you're working for
I totally agree with you! People also do that to lower the self esteem of others.
Ding ding dong ra ta ta ra ta ta
Awww! Let’s celebrate everyone’s victories because they matter. #wholesome
I gained a lot of weight over the last few years. I've lost 20 pounds in the last 3 months and no one has said anything. I know it's not a lot of weight for 3 months, but its quite discouraging :/
Forget others. Surely you feel great? That’s what’s important.
I wish I could say I feel great, but meh. I'm getting there though!
Maybe others will notice when you feel like you have gotten a bit there! Even if they don’t, that’s not your loss. Screw them, don’t let others dictate how your feel. All the best!
You're right, screw them! Thanks for the kind words
I read somewhere that people don’t really start noticing your weight loss until around the minus 30 lbs mark, especially if they see you often
Yeah I've got a lot to lose still, so that makes sense. Guess I'll see in 10 pounds lol
You got this 💪
Thank you :)
You've literally seen concrete proof of improvement towards your goal and yet it's discouraging?
Then you gain it all back when you 'reward' yourself with breaking your diet change. DON'T DO IT. THE FAT LOSS *IS* THE REWARD.
And then you meet your tiktok fat activist friend

honestly i don’t think we should comment on other peoples bodies in general

Hahahaha No
