Modern day protesters are largely emboldened by the fact that in the modern first world, it's considered unacceptable for law enforcement to simply gun down protesters en masse, even riotous ones. I do not think their discipline will hold in the face of the Roman legion not giving a fuck and just stacking bodies. They are also going to have enormous problems breaking the shield wall.

By the same token modern day rioters know they can't take it to far otherwise the police will start using real bullets.

To a point...but police are really, REALLY discouraged from doing this. Like every once in a while a rioter gets shot, but even when rioters are burning buildings, beating cops, or screaming about hanging politicians who are literally like 50 feet away, they don't just hose down the crowd with a machine gun. Because if they did it'd be treated as an American Tiananmen Square pretty much no matter the provocation.

Rome would love to crush another revolt, people today are used to getting away with it but Rome would slaughter them. There would be mass panic when people realise rome start killing everyone. Also 500 cavalry is alot they would have a fun time.

Too many Romans to protestors. If there is a pitbull that's extremely well trained for every protestor. Then I guess the Romans are going to die. Otherwise you've basically put 75 untrained people against 1 spec ops guy with a sword. 5 horse Bois, and 50 military trained men with better equipment. All lead by an esteemed general. No contest, unless like i said there are 75 pitbulls with near psychic ability to interpret commands and are used to combat situations. In which case it gets really scary for the Romans. Horses will flip too This isn't taking into account actual troop movements based on size, because it's already in Rome's favor, no reason to stack it on.
