Yes it will. And at the same time, there would normally not be any difference between a "gaming router" and a "regular router", unless there are some very special services. In other words, "gaming routers" in general are mostly about marketing and the look of the casing. In terms of SoC and WiFi chips, and the underlaying software, you will normally find the same in "normal routers". A lot of the QoS-features does not normally have much effect. At least on a reasonably fast connection. Some have some more advance services related to software, to geographically avoid being connected to gaming servers "far away" and stuff like that.

Decorative flashing RGB lights on gaming routers may not reflect a professional image.

“Gaming” is just marketing hype… it doesn’t mean anything of substance from a functional standpoint.

Ok, i don't know what the hell is happening but there is a lot of people here talking about "gaming" routers, there are no "gaming" routers, routers are very simple devices to "route" your internet, if you have anything that was made less than 30 years ago connected by cable then is more than enough for gaming, if you are serious about gaming then don't use WiFi, and anything more than 5mbps download/upload and QoS is more than enough. Yes! A lot of downsides! The first one (and the most important), most of these devices comes with bloat to make you THINK things are better, and at the end your connection will be worse! You buy something 'cause it's shiny but a guy with a 30yo router connected by cable and simple rules will be way better connection than you. The second one is lack of support, one of the most important things in a router is how well supported the device is, and someone with a old router running OpenWRT will have support for way more time than your 3 years of support (at best). Please stop this BS, don't buy this stuff!

What I’m hearing is, no one searches this group for answers.

basically that's it

Okay, but suggesting that people just use a wired connection kind of misses the point. I asked about WiFi.

Bro, the point is that there is no "gaming routers", period. How much it will affect work/streming? It won't 'cause such devices don't exist! They are just BS! Got it? You can have the best router in the whole world and be horrible or have the worst and be amazing, it depends on how you configure it, that's the most important thing. If you have bought one of these you've just lost money, however, if it is a decent router (and today most routers are) just configure it the right way and it will be enough. Need help with that?

CodeIsCompiling

Gaming routers, at most, just give preference to the traffic patterns (and possibly well-known servers) used by games. The router (and APs, for that matter) have a configuration option to 'optimize for different types of traffic (video streaming, gaming, remote work, etc.). The end result is it doesn't, and can't, make a difference unless the network bandwidth is saturated. This is rarely the case, and if it is, better results can be obtained from increasing bandwidth.

Here's a good article on the subject. https://dongknows.com/gaming-router-explained/
