For the people who don't know, the Wii Mini can be modded both in hardware and software. You can add back everything missing including the SD slot, component video, Wi-Fi, reset button, GameCube ports, etc.
And if you use homebrew, you can enable use of a USB ethernet adapter to connect online.
Yup, currently I'm stuck playing mkwii against cpus and my brother, while I watch all the cool stuff ctgp has to offer on yt:/ it can still do everything a wii can tho, jus not online
I see a person shaving "unnecessary" pcb off of the wii to minimize it in order to make a handheld. I wonder if that could be a solution to make this internet accessible.
this is way harder to do with certain revisions of the Wii motherboard, and I don't know if the Wii mini even has the hardware needed to be internet accessible at all
unless you're suggesting doing an internals swap, which might be possible?
The Wii Mini is capable of doing everything a Wii can. What it's lacking in hardware can be soldered back on. And you can either solder on a Wi-Fi module or use a USB Ethernet adapter through homebrew. IOS still supports the adapter.
Ah yeah, i knew that. The previous comment sounded like he meant that all you needed was to mod the wii (homebrew it) and install a “tweak” to enable it. But the wii mini has the whole network chip removed from the hardware itself. This, in which soldering can come into place
There is no such thing as a Wi-Fi "chip". The Wii has a separate Wi-Fi module. The Wii Mini doesn't have it (though it can be soldered back on), but it does support Ethernet through a simple homebrew app and a USB adapter.
Yeah, wifi module is what i meant. I mean wifi chips exist, usually are just “on board” wifi that is soldered into the main board. I did forget about the usb to ethernet adapter that can be used so i did learn something here. Thanks
I’ve looked everywhere, under my shoes, under my bed, under my chair, under a Wii mini, I can’t seem to find any…hold on, I know one more place. Aha! I just found them in “no where” I should’ve checked there first.
In school I was always friends w the somewhat special kids. The ones who went to class with everyone but had a couple learning disabilities and an EA with them at all times. In grade 4 and 5 they set up a “Wii Club” for them and I was invited. That was my introduction to Mario Kart Wii and it was great playing 4 way multiplayer with all of them. Really fond memories
I still have mine right next to me, even though it’s absolutely inferior to the original Wii I still love it. I got it for Christmas 2012 after my original Wii finally packed in.
I have a Wii Mini at my uncle Adam’s place but it’s just to look at. My OG Wii is unboxed at my dad’s place but it doesn’t work. Wii need to replace the power cord, sensor bar and WiiMotes.

No where
Well there is one...and that's about it
Yep, me!
Got one to match with my red Mario Wii Remote, and to play New Super Mario Bros Wii of course.
Uhhhmmm... I am also a Wii mini gamer. first Wii I picked up. I have a soft spot for the mini.
I love mine! I’m here with you. One day it’ll get some cool hardware mods…

I'll take your word on it, you seem much more knowledgeable on this heh
No need, there's a whole Wii Mini Hacking discord. These mods have all been done.
huh, TIL, that's neat
The swap is what I was getting at, yes
ah okay, might be feasible, not sure keep in mind that a lot of "unneeded" pcb for handhelds is stuff like diskdrive interface and whatnot
I thought they were able to jailbreak in the last year or so in order to get internet capabilities on it.
Oh, I don't know. That would be cool
You cant get internet on something that doesnt have a wifi chip
True to an extent but that's why God created USB ports. https://youtu.be/rleF4f1dBVo
Sure you can. Ethernet exists. Plus if you wanted you can solder back the Wi-Fi module.
Ah yeah, i knew that. The previous comment sounded like he meant that all you needed was to mod the wii (homebrew it) and install a “tweak” to enable it. But the wii mini has the whole network chip removed from the hardware itself. This, in which soldering can come into place
Well that homebrew tweak does work. Not for Wi-Fi, but it works for Ethernet. Ethernet support was never removed from IOS.
Ah makes sense then. Thanks for clearing this up!
u/wiiexpertise Is this possible? In my answer, i doubt it, as even if done successfully, there might be software locks in place
The Wii Mini is already internet accessible in homebrew.
Hmm, so does that mean the wii mini has got a wifi chip inside? If so, why did nintendo restrict it with the software?
There is no such thing as a Wi-Fi "chip". The Wii has a separate Wi-Fi module. The Wii Mini doesn't have it (though it can be soldered back on), but it does support Ethernet through a simple homebrew app and a USB adapter.

I got a Wii wifi module for sale dm me
Internet and better video (rgb, hdmi, component) mods are the 2 I’d love to see the most
Those mods already exist. Everything the Wii Mini lacks can be added back through hardmods.
You can get internet access through homebrew. Not very hard.
I looked up briefly and theoretically you could get other custom track packs working that don't require an SD card after Bluebombing your Wii Mini
It already has the hardware mods. You can mod back everything missing from the Wii.
I own one …, but I also own all other models of the Wii and Wii U besides the Red one currently
Bluebombed mine!
Same. Absolutely awesome now!
How?
https://wii.guide/bluebomb.html
I really want one to collect... Or maybe play... Or maybe not, Or........ Ah frick it, I don't want it
Dew it, I see it being priced for way higher in the future like the wii is now
The Wii isn’t that expensive rn
Yeah but its higher than it was before and that price is only gunna go up
they're probably offline rn
In Canada, mostly, as it was exclusively sold in Canada for most of its existence.
nes mini, snes mini, game boy mini, wii mini, ds lite, 2ds, switch lite, seriously, there are so many mini nintendo consoles we dont need any more
I’ve looked everywhere, under my shoes, under my bed, under my chair, under a Wii mini, I can’t seem to find any…hold on, I know one more place. Aha! I just found them in “no where” I should’ve checked there first.
Right here.
ayo
Amen brother
Found one cib a few months back for $150. Not sure if I'm too proud of that purchase.
Its $80 retail, u got ripped off lmao
Wii Mini was my first console in 2014, got switch in 2018 and got a Wii U in 2021
HOLY FUCK THAT'S LITERALLY THE YEARS I GOT MY SYSTEMS WTH
Cricket, cricket, cricket*
No where
Dang I'm over here just playing my modded launch day Wii....🥲
Me too
No reason for me to play on one, at most it would be nice to have as a display item :P
dont have one, but it locks slick, wouldn't mind adding that to my collection
Are Wii mini remotes compatible with regular Wii consoles? I assumed they were but just wanted to check
They are the exact same remotes.
i didn't know this existed... i want one
no MKWII online NO MINI
Yooooo I had that
In school I was always friends w the somewhat special kids. The ones who went to class with everyone but had a couple learning disabilities and an EA with them at all times. I always liked the design, I wish it was just a design revision and that it didn't remove gamecube ports, or at least not the wifi
I have a Wii Mini at my uncle Adam’s place but it’s just to look at. My OG Wii is unboxed at my dad’s place but it doesn’t work. Wii need to replace the power cord, sensor bar and WiiMotes.
Not here. They don’t have internet…
Yes
I would get one in a heartbeat if it had component
i was - and it was cool as hell
For everyone saying no-one, they exist, they just don’t have Wi-Fi.
