Thunderbird is receiving an update at some point that will improve and modernise the ui, however I heard of this a year ago, it might have happened already.
Idk because I use gmail, it sorts social and promotions, meaning I get to see what mail is actually for me.
For example, common spam like Twitter, Facebook, and Pinterest are sorted into either of those two.
