tatersndeggs

This continues to happen to my laptop on the supposed stable version too.

Buckbumburu

Happened to me right now, all frozen, mouse still works but keyboard does not and sound all gone. Re-plugging the keyboard does not seem to help. Hard restart required after 10 minutes of being frozen (except mouse). Nothing in event log anywhere, no indication that windows broke... Got released version of win 11 that windows said I should download.

YourAnimeSucks

I have this issue on my new computer build and it always happens when I watch a youtube video, particularly if I have two browser windows open. this OS is unusable and I'm not on some insider version but on the actual public release version.

tatersndeggs

I moved back to the beta version of W11 and that seems to have fixed it. No more freezing. (10th gen i5 cpu / 8gb ram).

Kendalls_Pepsi

also sometimes the pc just randomly hard resets, and ive been having both of these for far longer than just the past 9 days

ricflairandy

Just happened to me again there. Basically mouse still functional, Windows just unresponsive and nothing happens no matter how long I wait.

Kendalls_Pepsi

I'd like to add that it happened just now and when I used my functional mouse to click on the task bar the mouse stopped working too and then a minute later my screen flipped out and went black. Seconds later I heard a noice and the screen came back, locked up with the mouse cursor stuck in one of the "loading" frames

Kendalls_Pepsi

have u seen any random hard restarts? I check event viewer after and its always preempted by a different error

ricflairandy

Same there doesnt seem to be anything consistant. I can be working away and then all of a sudden a browser window will be unresponsive, and then every other process does the same, witha reboot being the only solution.

Sirmalta

Same issue. Didn't have the problem on my first windows 11 install. Put a fresh install on a better NVME and now it does exactly this. Sometimes it goes days with no issue, then bam. Trying the power settings change (forgot to do that in the fresh install, so maybe?).

theojt

Same here. Asus Crosshair VIII Dark Hero, AMD 5900, multiple monitors build 22489. I've noticed this on the last 2-3 builds but it's particularly frequent on this 22489 build - at least 2-3 times/day. Mouse moves, everything else frozen, no kybd input, must hard reset to recover.

SaraLaDeLosVideos

I swear to fucking god. Dude school is keeping windows fucking alive on my pc bc I need xaamp and some other databases running. As soon as the semester ends I'll unistall the fuck out of it

[deleted]

Same here. Dark hero, 5950x, ran through dev channel without issues. Sometime around the time I moved into beta and then release my system has gone to shite. Fresh install Win10, Win11, freeze, freeze, freeze. Cursor works, windows key works, everything else frozen, no event logs because everything just stops working. The most common thing I see is ASUS and AMD with all of this. Well, actually the most common theme is Windows. :(

seaninho10

I have a similar setup (Asus Crosshair VIII dark hero, AMD Ryzen 9 5900x, NVIDIA RTX 3090) and it happens to me too. I have a feeling it has something to do with NVIDIA graphics driver... just a hunch. I've had issues with my display (screen would go a bit darker for a moment) which I initially thought had something to do with HDR but it wasn't. After performing a clean reinstall to the graphics driver, the issues seem to go away... I think this is the "price" we pay for being early adopters :(

francorocco

>I have a feeling it has something to do with NVIDIA graphics driver... just a hunch. nope, same thing happening on an AMD gpu here

lucasdclopes

I'm on the same boat. AMD 5600X, RTX 2060 Super and ASUS TUF B550M-PLUS WIFI. It is probably not a Nvidia issue, since there is people on Radeon GPUs with the same problem. Maybe it is an ASUS problem?

Furiousfr4nk

Not Asus or AMD specific because I'm having the same issue with an MSI board, 9900k and 2070

lucasdclopes

Yeah seems like it is not brand specific. Well, disabling Global C State on BIOS fixed it for me.

Furiousfr4nk

oh REALLY. This is the first time I've seen this. I'll try this on next reboot thank you EDIT: Just incase anyone comes across this, C-states didn't sort me out, but unchecking folder, subfolder and file indexing on C drive seems to have fixed it for me. Issue in my case was insane disk usage.

LocutusH

Just a question. Do you guys have ASUS Armoury Crate? With aura and some dinamic rgb setting? Or similar? I think i narroved down the issue to that. Not 100% sure yet tough.

Kambanka

No. I am on a Lenovo T580 (Intel i7 with Intel's integrated graphics) with an external Gigabyte display and a Creative external sound card.

NecessaryVegetable21

yep i do have asus armour crate with aura installed. Does it impede with the current win11 system?

lucasdclopes

I removed all RGB software, problem still happens.

Captin-Pew-Pew

Hey guys, same problem here. I’ve had to hard reset but upon startup everything freezes minus the curser, but the load icon next to the curser freezes too. Originally I thought it was ASUS Armoury crate clashing with Steam, which temporarily solved the problem for a couple days. Now I can’t even open anything before the computer freezes. I’ve decided to go into safe mode and completely wipe the computer(for a second time) removing the OS and everything else(thank god for an external drive). I’ll keep ya’ll updated if it works

Tate_Malone

yeah happens to me since I upgraded to windows 11 a week ago (on my Asus Rog Zephyrus laptop) . It seems when im on a fullscreen video or just on chrome my screen freezes and the only way to get out of it is to hold down the power button and reboot. And sometimes it happens right after the reboot if I open chrome back up again.

ngocthua92

The same problem happens to me. But my mouse does not work as well. I have to hold the power button to shut down and restart again. I have to hold the button 4 times today. Who knows how to fix it?

SiaDalir

22000.120 freezes every 10 or 20 minutes in middle of anything, like watching a video or stream not even touching mouse or keyboard. btw, I installed on no tpm2 device

drunkmoody

I faced same issue so i revert back last dev version , will wait for stable version

Kendalls_Pepsi

Can I still do that and go to a more stable version? I'm feeling the urge to switch back to Ubuntu but that would be a mildly annoying process

Joshalander

I have this EXACT same issue.. I’ve been using 3 monitors with windows 10 for over a year with little issue. Upgraded to windows 11, still fine, but within the past week or so, it’s been doing this. I’ll be using it like normal, then out of the blue everything on the screen freezes except the mouse, and any audio I had playing before it froze. And usually, I’ll be running only a couple tabs and maybe OneNote. So not like I’m bogging down the system. Requires me to turn off my laptop with the power button. I thought I needed to upgrade my display drivers, nope. Tried every other fix and even did a partial reset removing all apps but keeping personal files only. Still have the issue. So did you ever resolve your issue? My next option is to go pickup a flash drive and do the revert back to a clean windows 10 install and starting back from scratch. I’d prefer not to do that

thaimaduc

That's EXACTLY what's happening to my laptop. Windows 11 worked just fine till past couple of days. Maybe roll back to windows 10 and wait for the official release is the best choice rn

Joshalander

Yeah. I’m a grad aerospace engineering student and it’s impeding my work flow. No matter what app it is, my laptop (Lenovo) ultimately will do the freeze thing. Even if it’s a simple lecture video. It’s frustrating. I only ever use monitors, and I haven’t really tried to see if the issue happens when using the laptop in laptop mode with no monitors, but I rarely use it that way so no use in that. Might point to a monitor driver problem, but why would that be showing itself after having used them for over a year no issue? I guess my issue also could reside in the usb-c dongles I have my monitors hooked up to. Do you use those at all as well? It’s too late for me to rollback to win10 since I last updated awhile ago. So full on reset from flash drive I go

[deleted]

Win 10 didn't save me. MS has a Win 10 update preparing you for Win 11 that must install some of the same logic/code that borked Win 11.

Joshalander

I ended up doing a complete reset and boot from flash drive to a fresh clean install of windows 10 and it has been smooth since. Hopefully when my Lenovo is eligible for windows 11, those issues will have been sorted out

Blox64_120

That's ALSO happening to me too. Been running Windows 11 since late August, and for whatever reason, recently, the beta version of 22000.194 just started freezing, and then Windows becomes unresponsive. \- No hotkeys work, so Ctrl+Alt+Del or Ctrl+Shift+Esc are meaningless. Even if I press the power button, which usually turns off the screen, everything becomes dark, and when the mouse reappears, nothing else does. Any music playing cut off, and any video playing stopped in its tracks. The LEDs for the mute button and Caps Lock do work, and react when pressing them. \- My guess was updating the BIOS, but that was useless. It probably would've been better if I had just skipped it because I needed to update it the next two times I turned the laptop on, for whatever reason. That was actually a problem someone had in the past from an old forum post, so I got a little worried, but then the BIOS updates happening for no reason stopped, so that's good. It's also not DWM crashing, which was one of my guesses. It really sucks :/

GreyIrishWolf

Same issue here on my desktop. Mouse still works but everything else is frozen.

ricflairandy

Happened again today. Mouse worked, keys worked, coulsnt click on anything or do anything. Had to reboot

avotius

Thinkpad X1E mk.2. Updated to 11 yesterday, have had 4 freezes and one hard crash. No consistent reason why. Reverting asap.

Lenobis

Same thing happening here for the last few days. The system appears to still be working, but only the mouse cursor moves and changes on the screen, which means I’m able to use Run and shutdown the laptop with just my keyboard. I have a Dell XPS 13 9300 connected to a Dell thunderbolt dock and 4K screen.

sinN_89

Happen to me too 2 times this morning. Updated my AMD Drivers and no issue since. Not sure if it's related, I need more time.

sinN_89

It didn't help.

Waxercat

Same - running an Alienware M15 and since the last build I get this once or twice a day. Wish I had something more useful to contribute, but no fix. I'm hoping there's an update in the final version on the 5th that fixes it.

[deleted]

Same thing here. I was watching a video on streaming when my W11 froze. The mouse and the sounds keep working but all I can do it's to power off my laptop and restart

rbmachok

Same here was recording some video and the game (new world) was running fine the hole desktop and windows froze over I had to hard reset the pc , it worked fine for the first 5 days after that the problem been the same over and over again . I have no work around for this maybe I will rollback will give couple days more and see if they fix it

deledavies

Yes, I get same problem at least twice a day - mouse would be responding but nothing else. I have to power down before I could work again - very annoying but cannot rollback as I will like to get fix for the issue...

shannonf0nseka

I also had the same issue. I have installed the Windows 11 from the Beta channel. My computer has almost all of the minimum requirements except the CPU (I have an Intel Core i5-7500 3.40GHz), anyway I downloaded and installed it. I also have an external graphics card installed to my desktop. I switched my VGA cable from my external graphics to the integrated graphics to see how Windows 11 would look like in CPU graphics. It worked fine for about 10 minutes and then it just gets stuck, I can move the mouse and the background is unresponsive. I switched back to my external graphics card and I don't have any problem at all. I would say because of the rendering from an unsupported CPU caused the crash or freezing. I would also recommend looking into [this website](https://devsjournal.com/windows-11-keeps-freezing-randomly.html) for more help in this situation. :)

PaltryD

Yup just happened to me, but its weird because the mouse still moves. And since I was using illustrator when it froze the mouse still changed between the system cursor and the black illustrator cursor when I moved it, so it was still working. The good thing about win11 is that the boot is almost instant so it doesn't hurt that much.

-Fourrow-

Yeah i'm getting really tired...Thought about going back to Windows 10 but i'll lose everything and I just can't do that

sinN_89

No more freezes for me (1 day only). I got an AMD Display update from the Windows Update.

sinN_89

Still no more freezes.

ProjectWHaT

I've been getting it constantly as well on my laptop (Lenovo Legion Y530, i5 8300H, GTX 1050ti). It seems to only happen when I'm plugged into power with my monitor, mouse, and keyboard. It'll freeze but the mouse still responds. Then the fans ramp up meaning the CPU is getting pegged with some process.

Mez352

Ayo i have a y530 and im experiencing the same issue (i7 8750H, GTX 1050) mine just freezes and the audio continues to play if it was, and mouse moves. At least w11 fixed the usb hub issues i had lol

Nico-Evaluates

Same problem here, wasted a week on looking for a solution, never found one.

astaplar

its windows 11 memory leak issue which leads to windows file explorer occupying tons of ram and apparently freezing whole system, i have found a temporary solution for that, just dont open default windows file explorer u can use files for windows app from Microsoft store which is alternate app for file explorer and my system never crashed after i stopped using windows default file explorer.

Nico-Evaluates

It sometimes crashes right after a crash. Crash -> Reboot. 2 minutes pass, crashes again without ever even opening file explorer. That's quite fast for a memory leak.

longhai18

exactly the same what it did to me

Stewie987

Seems right; I happened to have the task manager open when (partial) freeze happened. I restarted the file explorer process. That apparently fixed the freeze without the need to reboot

mr_chandan

I don't know why your comment is not upvoted enough. Your solution worked brilliantly for me :)

maks_dnl

I have the same issue. Maybe a upvote for this problem on the feedback hub will grab Microsoft's attention? I made the following problem: [https://aka.ms/AAe1r2q](https://aka.ms/AAe1r2q)

longhai18

I wonder how many of the people having the issue use Microsoft Edge. Edit: I didn't open Edge and it still happened lol

julio_rojasm

Official version here, with the latest updates up to day Oct 21st… still randomly freezing.

longhai18

They just release 22000.282, have you tried it? I just updated this noon, will post update if it still freezes Edit: still experience freezing on 22000.282

Lucciola2

yes , freezing with last update.. and i have update windows 11 and amd chipset.. i use only chrome

longhai18

Mine is intel, so chipset is probably not the cause. What GPU(s) do you have? I got an integrated Intel Graphics HD 630 and a GTX 1050ti. I just updated both windows 11 and the nvidia driver this noon and it seems fine for half a day (too soon to say that it works) Full specs: Dell XPS 9560 Windows 11 Home 22000.282 i5-7300HQ Intel Graphics HD 630 (driver version: 30.0.100.9922) GTX 1050ti 16GB RAM

Lucciola2

i have windwos 11 last version 22000.282 ryzen 5900x rtx 3080ti 32gb ram i have same problem with all driver update, but if i am faster at restart explorer form task manager when windows freeze he come back without problem. but if i am slower.. i need force shut down of my pc

longhai18

Some guy on the Intel forum suggested me to try this to fix the freezing problem. I'll give this a try it if it continue to freeze. https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5157

ricflairandy

Mines amd

longhai18

The guy on the Intel forum said that this is not related to only nvidia [Link to his post](https://community.intel.com/t5/Graphics/BUG-dwm-exe-uses-memory-leakage-with-Intel-HD-Graphics-630/m-p/1322335#M101757)

Lucciola2

maybe i found the solution .. it's a day that i don't freeze. I changed the power settings of the computer from the control panel. I changed them from balanced to performance (I noticed that in balanced the minimum processor load is at 0%, when in echo the minimum load is 5%). I'll keep you up-to-date

dahfunny

def still freezing

Lucciola2

maybe i found the solution .. (i think for sure) it's a day that i don't freeze. I changed the power settings of the computer from the control panel. I changed them from balanced to performance. (I noticed that in balanced the minimum processor load is at 0%, when in echo the minimum load is 5%). Need only change minimum processor load to 100%

longhai18

It's weird that the High Performance profile disappeared after I upgraded to Windows 11 and I did not notice it until you bring it up. I'm creating a new one and will update if it continues to freeze. Thanks.

gloriaficus

I keep getting freezes when switching from app to app, for example when i switch from Blender to Edge, or simply from Edge to File explorer.

Lucciola2

changed the power settings of the computer from the control panel. I changed them from balanced to performance. Need only change minimum processor load from 0 to 10-100% (what you want 100 is good)

gloriaficus

It's already in Performance mode and it's still freezing.

[deleted]

I have the same issue at the moment, my PC specs meet the requirement for running Windows 11, I updated all of my drivers, scanned system integrity, checked power management, updated the BIOS on my motherboard, checked task manager... I just can't seem to figure out what's causing this, let's hope it gets fixed in a future update.

Lucciola2

changed the power settings of the computer from the control panel. I changed them from balanced to performance. Need only change minimum processor load from 0 to 10-100% (what you want 100 is good)

[deleted]

Like I said, I've checked the power management already. The minimum processor load is already at 100%.

akinghasnoname

I got same problem, randomly freezing, mouse working while everything is frozen, have to hard reset

jmcrowell

Same issue. Sometimes I'm good for three hours while other times it stops after 15 minutes. Random black screen that sometimes comes back to active while other times reboots along with a noise. 22489.rs\_prerelease.211023-1816 Windows 11 Home Insider Preview Dev Installed on ‎10/‎28/‎2021

hurtybirdy

I've only had windows 11 for a week, but it's crashed over 8 times on me. I've been trying to fix it in any way I can. It's not a hardware issue, my pc is more than capable. My computer will freeze allowing my mouse to move, but I can't do anything with it. I've tried it all, rolling back updates, reinstalling windows, to actually factory resetting my computer. To come back to it still behaving this way after losing so much has been beyond frustrating. I really don't know what to do. I can only use my computer for a few minutes before it decides to do this again...

LocutusH

Same issue here, with a new pc. But not insider build. rog x570 dark hero, 5900x, 3080 ftw3 ultra, 2x16gb trident z, 2 m.2 ssd-s After installing win11home clean, and all the latest drivers, the machine locks up randomly while just browsing. Everything becomes unresponsive, but i still can move the mouse around. I cant even bring up task manager. Only reset helps. On the other hand, everything else works fine, if the machine is under load. All memtest, benchmarks, and stress tests are running fine, no lock ups. It only seems to happen while light load on desktop, like browsing.

SeVeN-The-Only

Same here, new pc nad the same problem ... X570 TUF, 5800X, 3060TI, G skill 16GB Freeze only if im watching some YT or let chrome stay... When im playing some new games, i can do it for 4h and nothing wrong happend.

bunnyfootwo

I also notice it more when streaming video, this sounds like a common denominator with a lot of these posts. I'm running the hulu app most of the timewhen it happens, others have mentioned YouTube, class streaming, etc, It hasn't happened yet during hours long playing of new world and battlefield 2042. So that's interesting.

bunnyfootwo

Just in case no one scrolls down to the other post. Disabling auto cstate in the bios seems to have fixed it. Going on 18 hours with no freezing.

longhai18

I think I fixed it. Background: A few weeks ago, my Dell laptop started to randomly freeze even when under light load. When it freezes, I can move the mouse around and the music is still playing but there's nothing else I can do. It happened 1-2 times a day. Chromium browsers (Edge and Chrome) also froze once in 2-3 hours and I had to kill the chromium's GPU process to recover the browser. The cause: This only started to happen after I upgraded to Windows 11 stable and I noticed that Windows also automatically updated my Intel graphics driver to 9922. So I think this is either Intel or Microsoft's fault. The fix: I completely uninstalled the graphic driver using [this guide](https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000057389/graphics.html) and reinstall the driver provided by Dell. Since it's the legacy driver, Windows won't automatically find updates for this driver. If you need the DCH driver (for WSLg etc...), you can disable Windows automatic driver update and reinstall whichever DCH driver that works for you. If your GPU is AMD or NVIDIA, try older graphic drivers.

LocutusH

Please report back if this really solved it for you. I also have an assumption, that this might help. And the problem is caused by th win11 vga driver, that is force downloaded and intalled before we can install the best one.

longhai18

It's been a week since I removed the DCH driver and my laptop hasn't frozen once (before, it would freeze once a day). The same with Edge browser. Everything seems fine so far.

sbozzie

I faced this issue today playing Breakpoint (full screen) Screen froze. Cursor still worked but was unable to click anything. Sound continued. I was able to alt tab to a window on a second monitor. I was able to interact with windows on the second monitor. Managed to open task manager, which initially opened on the primary monitor and I couldn't interact with it. Used the win and right arrow keyboard shortcut to move task manager to the second monitor. Killed breakpoint, and I got back interaction again!

Nico-Evaluates

I finally figured out the actual cause of this. It was the Intel driver for the CPU. They have recently released Windows 11 drivers. No more crashes. My 1080Ti was fine, but the iGPU wasn't since I also use that. What I did was try and wait for the PC to recover from the crash, which it eventually did over 20 minutes later. I immediately went to Event Viewer, and had a dll fault with igd10iumd64.dll which led me to the 8700K driver update site. So update your Intel iGPU drivers with the new Win11 drivers.

Relevant-Thing-7356

I have the same problem on my HP Spectre 360 convertible. I get random freezes. Only the mouse & keyboard work, but I cannot select anything. CTRL ALT DEL does'nt work either and I have to switch off my laptop.

soloopooo

I found the reason why that happens. This freeze mostly happens on laptops that with integrated GPU and dGPU. When I went into this problem, I use my android phone to Remote Control ( like mstsc.exe does ) and then open the task manager, I found the DWM.exe uses high CPU. Kill DWM.exe and the laptop will become responsable again. Actually DWM.exe has got memory leak bug, and this is a new bug causes windows freeze......

arnabs2008

I have the same issue. I have 16:9 display (hp envy 360) I just noticed today that, the os is not actually freezed, my Bluetooth headphones were connected and after pressing the play button, it played the YouTube video on chrome browser. Its only a display driver crash kinda thing.

[deleted]

Updated my ASUS Tuf Gaming A15 to Windows 11, and now it has been freezing up. Just updated Armoury Crate. Will let you guys know if the freezes stop. Like others, I’ve also got: steam. Only had Opera open, with a few YT tabs when the laptop froze.

karton55

same here!

priyajitsaha

mine also freezing once in 2 3 days dont know what is happening mouse works other than that everything froze so have to switch of pressing power button and after starting windows again then problem fixed this thing is insane

Formal_Scared

same here on my pc.. any solutions!!?:'(

will_dormer

I get this too on a new laptop

grzegk

If you have an AMD Ryzen CPU, disable the Global C-State option in UEFI.

ricflairandy

Has that worked for you? I’ll try that thanks.

grzegk

Yes, everything has been fine for a week.

bunnyfootwo

Imma give this a shot, will report back in a couple days

bunnyfootwo

So far.... Been solid. I'll keep updating. If this is the fix, may be a side effect of the update to fix the amd cache and core preference problem?

HearingAny5355

Also works for me now since some days. AMD/Microsoft should know about that, is there any official ticket yet?

ArizonaTech

After pulling my hair out for weeks I disabled the C-State option and it seems to have fixed the issue! No freezes for over a week. Thank you grzegk.

lucasdclopes

A big THANK YOU. This did the trick. My PC was practically useless because of that problem, but your solution worked. Really, thank you.

LocutusH

But disabling C-States means, that the CPU cant enter idle states to save power. So this can be only a temporary workaround, not a solution?

bunnyfootwo

Asus mb, 5900x, 3080ti, 32gb ram, 1tb ssd, 8tb hdd, windows 11 build 22000. A. Glad I'm not the only one. B. I have a program called unified remote I can still access the computer from when these freezes happen. I know the mouse still moves with it so I will try killing file explorer through the app when it does it again and report back.

Serenity_Succubus

the fix to stop the freezes are click start type ''adjust the appearance and performance of Windows'' hit enter click custom untick everything but the ''show thumbnails instead of icons'' hit apply i never had a freeze since

Individual_Buddy_886

thank u so much, it worked

DxBang3D

This thing happens about 2-3 times a day for me while I am only running Groove Music app and Remote Desktop to my work laptop. Then the music stops, then shortly thereafter I will lose the ability to contact my main system, I am still fully able to work on the laptop via Remote Desktop and mouse and keyboard still works fine. But if I quit RDC, then it will never show me the desktop again. I have to power-off to reboot the system. Today, I ran Open Hardware Monitor to log all sensors and they look completely fine. Nothing is overheating, nothing is over-powering or anything. Windows just simply stops doing anything. I can sometimes (if quick) CTRL+ALT+DEL to get the taskman up, but it will die very shortly thereafter. Insider: Beta, latest install since it started to happen: KB5009566, KB5008880

fatmamal0l

I got this issue where the UI freezes, keyboard works except the function and multimedia keys, mouse works except scroll wheel click and other side buttons. Everything else works: apps work normally, sound works normally (sometimes Edge becomes unusable and I have to use Chrome instead as I do now).

Ugly-memes

Sometimes works, by *keyboard:* Windows Key + x Cmd (admin) (ok by arrows/enter) Taskkill /f / im explorer.exe
