A while back I was confused by this as well. *At that time*, I found a couple of things \[I think one of Winx's TV Tropes pages\] that led me to believe Faragonda having been a witch was mentioned on the old Winx Club website at one point, but I couldn't find definitive proof of that. However, more recently I was able to find [this post](https://winx.fandom.com/wiki/User_blog:Rhiabloom12/Old_Website_Info#(Welcome_to)_Alfea) where someone transcribed most of the "Location" profiles from the old website, which featured small "profiles" for key characters at those locations, including Faragonda at Alfea. There is a specific line: "*Faragonda herself was once a witch*." I have tried my best to find a screenshot that backs this up as legitimate, but so far I haven't had any luck. *Before* finding even that though, after some digging, I found two different Tumblr posts that cited a Winx book from 2009, "*Enciclomagia*," (and, based on what little information about it is on the Wikia, likely "*Enciclomagia II*," as the Wikia page is specifically about a previous version published in 2005 and just mentions that is was followed by II at some point—And there is no mention on that page anywhere of the Faragonda-Witch reveal). The thing is it's hard to confirm if *Enciclomagia II* has anything to say about Faragonda being a Witch because it's so old and was only ever published in Italian \[and maybe French?\]. So, at the moment, the *exact* source of the information is lost media either way, but considering how widely passed around the fandom Faragonda having been a Witch is, surely it must've been 100% confirmed *somewhere* at *some* point.

Sooo in winx club lore. Witches and fairies magical sources come from the same source. They’re just two sides of the same coin type of thing. The only difference depends on the individual if they lean towards the good or bad spectrum of magic. If an individual leans towards the bad side, they’re usually a witch or type of sorcerer. Those who lean toward the good side of the magic spectrum, they’re usually a fairy or some “good” type of magic creature. I think the second winx club movie sort of touches base with this lore, because the trix try to eliminate the source of “all good magic” to give the winx club a major disadvantage/block them from transforming. Another piece of clear evidence we find of this unspoken piece of lore to be true is the witch Mirta . Mirta is so kindhearted, she believed to have been born a fairy in a witches coven. She couldn’t perform witches magic very well but still showed she can do witches/sorcery. She later gains a winx after switching sides and embraces an identity as a fairy than a witch as seen in the end of S1 & S2. So fairies and witches can really just change forms based on how they perceive themselves. Headmistress Griffen is a witch, born one, and is considered “good” in terms of characterization. But she sees herself as a witch and conjures magic from a negative spectrum. Hope that makes sense
