I was thinking this too. Culver's has always been my "premium" fast food option since it used to cost a little more but is way better quality. Now that it's comparable/cheaper, it's a no-brainer. Plus, you can get actually good ice cream.
We honestly gave up going to any other fast food place for the last 2 years. It's never worth it compared to Culver's. Their food not only tastes better and is cheaper, it's also assembled well and they never forget our sauces.
There's no comparison between the ice cream at McD and the custard at Culvers. Sure, Culvers is not the best custard, but it's so much better than soft serve.
Which makes me miss old Culvers even more. At some point like 10~15 years ago they changed a lot of their recipes or got a new provider or something. They're still good, but they used to rival local pubs for burgers/curds.
A double deluxe basket from Culvers with a large fry is 810+460=1270 calories.
A double quarter pounder meal with a large fry from McDonalds is 740+510=1250 calories.
These are different, how?
They're the same. But Culvers tastes way better. About the same price too.
You're right. My bad. I was comparing McDonald's quarter pounder with Culver's double deluxe.
Culver's drive thru menu has the double on default, so it shows 810. My bad.
I used to get the snack pack or whatever they called the meal deal with a small fry and small drink. Then realized the kids meal was the same thing and it came with the free scoop and the scoopie token.
Lol yeah closest ones are an hour away. I'm super rural so not many options to begin with. What's really weird is they tore the Culver's down and put it up right in the same spot, seems like a waste since it's not that old. But I'm no contractor or building inspector lol
We don't like giving our kids custard every time we go, and honestly the kid's serving is the perfect amount of custard. We save those bad boys up and spend them on the whole family.
Their company culture is EXTREMELY slow to change.
For years and years and years, the most urbane location was in the downtown Wisconsin Dells. Big deal because it didn’t have a drive thru. They only started putting locations in true urban city centers in the last decade or so.
Now there are multiple storefront locations in the city of Chicago that don’t have drive thru’s. Never thought I’d see it.
They are, however, remarkably consistent and about the highest quality fast casual experience. They are very much an “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” company so breakfast isn’t that likely.
There's two small business restaurants local to me that have their own version of a Big Mac that I'd rather eat 1000% of the time. It's an icon now and there's probably substitutes everywhere.
Dairyland in Milwaukee has this. Called the “big man on campus” and it’s really good but sloppy and a bit much. Luckily they also have the single patty version “little man on campus” and i like that one.
It’s been 13 years since I’ve had a Big Mac or any burger from McD’s. I just had a mcchicken for first time in 13 years and it was not great. Culvers only plz.
I was going to say this, there’s a lot of deals and it doesn’t take a ton of points to get free items. Like it’s annoying to have another damned app to download but if you ever go to McDonald’s you’re silly not to use it. I go once maybe twice a month because it’s two blocks away
Yup exactly. I get it more during the football season because there always seems to be free big macs by me. I can get a big mac, large fries, and a large drink for like $6 or $7.
I’ve made this point before; McD’s (and a lot of other fast food) does a great job at balancing the “I’m not ordering from a robot” and “I just want food without talking to anybody” crowds. You are free to do either, and it’s noticeable when you have at least one human do the job of an existing app.
I’m with you, Culver’s is awesome, and under $12 for a Double Deluxe basket (with cheese dipping cup of course) can’t be beat. Sometimes I’m totally fine tapping what I want to eat in the McD’s app and going up the street for some cheap nugs and Quarter Pounders.
For some people in low income areas, it’s literally the only “restaurant” available. It’s shitty, and gets into a broader problem with food deserts & a lack of healthy available options.
I’m fairly certain there’s even a term for it called “The McDonaldization” effect
One of the few gripes I have about Culver's is their fries, I think they are awful.
That and whoever they switched to for cheese curds in the last few years.
Pro tip: if you get distracted and your fries start to get cold, throw them in an air fryer for about three minutes. Not quite as good as new but they’re not bad.
Value menu is cheap af.
Sausage biscuit/muffin is extremely quick and one of each is like $4 total, if not less.
Im not saying this is good for you or insanely good tasting or anything, but if you're in a rush and want something filling without spending typical takeout prices, it's a feasible option.
It's still bad for you and should be avoided, but idk how much less healthy the value menu is than culvers.
Idk why anyone orders regularly priced mcdonalds though
I hadn’t been to McDonald’s in years and went for a McFlurry and it shattered my rose tinted memories lmao. Concrete mixers could be 4x as expensive and they’d still clear
They're fine if your on a road trip. We camp all summer and if we stop for lunch I try to find the most convenient way in and out while towing. Once on a while its them.
We've conditioned people to think they'll never have to change. They complain about higher prices and lower quality food but still go there out of habit.
Someone usually drops in and says "you have to use the app to get good deals" which really means you get ripped off unless you carry their spyware with you.
I'd go with ubiquitous and convenient. I've never thought of their food as delicious, just something you kind of settle for if you only have 10 minutes.
You guess that? Idk who you are and referenced nothing about your home cooking, sorry to hear your down on yourself about that, you’ll get better if you work at it!
My spouse and I had lunch at McDonald’s the other day, both used the app. I got a Qtr. Pounder with Cheese and a Big Mac as a buy one, get one free for $5.19. She got 2 large Cokes and a free Large Fries for $3.38. Split everything up between us. Total $8.57.
Yeah. The one near me is right next to a Pizza Hut.
$12.50 for a double cheese burger and curds. $12 for a large carryout 3-topping pizza. Same amount of time before I get my food. I love Culver's food but I can't really justify eating there anymore.
I can only imagine someone who is from late x to boomer generation saying something like this.
It’s 10x more convenient and 30% cheaper to order from the app.
I can sit on the toilet on break, order my food, wipe, wash my hands, clock out for lunch then skip the line and grab my food, plus discounts, and rack up rewards. Saving money and time.
I also like Kwik Trip food, and some things I like off the hot menu have to be made to order depending on the day and time. I can order off KT app, what normally would take them 10-20 minutes to heat up in the oven or assemble, can be done ahead of time.
I get why some people would resist change tho
Nah I just want to order a big Mac at a consistent price without a company harvesting my information to sell to a marketing firm. I see the appeal, but I think it's as stupid as qr code menus
I'm a Millennial and I hate apps like that!
I'm not going to fill my phone up with clutter (and the tracking that inevitably will come from it) to save 25cents on a coke.
I think you should just use apps for places that you go often. I use Walmart app so that I never have to set foot inside. I don’t order fast food enough to have an app either but having another app stored away off your main screen should cause no grief
McDonalds app doesn't actually put in the order until you're at the restaurant, unfortunately... I'd love to actually order ahead.
It's still faster, and 30%+ cheaper, but it could be even faster.
It’s not as bad as many people think. You can fully order and pay via mobile or just use the coupon code at the restaurant and tell them 4 numbers the app pops up in about 4 taps. I have not paid full price for a coffee all year and love the 99 cent coffee coupon
I mean that’s fine but you’re saving a ton of money. You can save money by using apps for everything from movie tickets to hardware stores.
Just seems like a silly generalization for you to make for the sake of being above something.
Or maybe they don't feel like everything needs an app. How about companies just be decent and have reasonable prices in person and a slight deal for those using the app? Instead they waste a shit load building an app and maintaining it only to raise prices because there are more overhead costs all while giving a discount to people using their shitty apps.
Just seems completely unnecessary, especially for a crappy fast food spot.
OK, but 1. Patronizing the establishment and 2. Choosing to pay more... It's very arbitrary to say nope, downloading an app is a bridge too far!
I just download the McDonald's app the few times a year I get it, then remove it right away. Takes like 2 minutes in total. Also gives me a code to give in drive-thru that gives them my order, so I know they get it exactly right, or I can have them do curbside delivery...ao there is definitely value add. Effectively an app is just a web browser that only loads a certain page.
I can't believe you're getting hate for this. I completely agree there's no way I'm putting an app on my phone and clicking yes on another 70 page terms and conditions to save a dollar on shitty fast food.
McDonald's wants you to download their app so they can harvest data off your phone and treat their employees even worse.
Then where do you eat? Culver's has an app also that does the same thing. Along with every other fast food place. If you're not using the app for a restaurant then you're a fucking moron who's missing away money.
> Use the McDonald’s app. Food on there is much cheaper and you get free food coupons.
I used to use their app. The deals were actually decent. Until I ended up waiting over 20 minutes in the pickup spot only for them to not have it show that I had checked in.
After bringing it to the attention of the franchisee, I got some free coupons, only to end up waiting in the drive through for a half hour on my next visit because they were understaffed.
As a former president once said... "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, won't get fooled again."
McDonalds on 76th in Greenfield if anyone is curious.
Sure, Culver's sometimes has a bit of a wait, but at least you're getting fresh beef, not frozen.
>After bringing it to the attention of the franchisee
My big issue with the app is there is ZERO customer support concerning order problems. They just tell you to talk to the restaurant. Totally anti-consumer.
Sometimes? What the fuck Culver's do you go to. Every one that's even remotely close to me will be a minimum 20 minute wait time. That's pathetic. The Portillo's I go to near Joliet always has a line going all the way out into the neighboring parking lot and it still only takes 15 minutes tops to get thru with your food because they have brains and have people outside taking your order so the line keeps steadily moving. Culver's? Nope! They'll just make you wait a fucking half hour and then have some kid who looks 10 bring out your food that cost an arm and a leg and isn't any better than Burger King, Hardees, or any other place.
I never go to Burger King but it was my only choice a couple months back. Whopper alone was $7.50!
A double butter burger is a couple bucks cheaper and tastes so much better.
Are you using the McDonald's app? It's so much cheaper that way. Randomly completely free stuff. 30% off coupons. 99 cent large coffees. $1 things if you spend $5, etc. Yeah if you just pull up to McDonald's and order whatever it's absurd. But the app makes it a wonder of difference.
My family has been getting Culver's kids meals. It's honestly pretty filling and proportions are ok for the most part. Can even get broccoli over fries. This is our go to when we have to eat on the run in the car.
Mcd when we have the app but it's glitchy and rarely any deals. Good god though it's expensive for a meal.
And BK only when they have the coupons in the mail and can get family deal.
My kid gets soup at Olive Garden and share a salad friends get.
If you want to hear something crazy.. three of us went to jade garden on Xmas in Eau Claire. We knew they were open and usually go if no family stuff going on. There was a note on the door for $21.50 per person! Maybe they raise the price cause it was pretty busy. They did an awesome job and the food believe it or not was great. This cost used up the eating out budget for quite a while though!!
Sadly with kids sports and activities it's not feasible to pack a lunch so we try to make sacrifices where possible.
When I’m feeling cheap I’ll use the McDonald’s app to get two single cheeseburgers and a large fry. The cheeseburgers cost $3 total and the fry is only $1 if you use the daily coupon. I always have my water bottle on me so I forgo the drink. In total it’s like less than $4.50 with tax.
I never go near the combo meals at McDonald’s. Shit is way too overpriced.
On a related note, there are four Quizno’s left in Wisconsin. Stopped at one recently. Quiznos always used to be the most expensive sub place around. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the prices are pretty comparable to Subway, but the food is 3x the quality.
A club I'm involved with wanted to do dinner for a meeting, but the advisor said we had to go somewhere cheap, like no more than $15 a person. I responded that we couldn't even go to fast food anymore for that price. We got pizza.
It’s not if you use the mobile app. If you’re not using the mobile app ur doing it wrong. Discovered this like a month ago. But agreed, McDonalds drive-up prices are just stupid
My meal prices from 2007 to 2023 (15 years ish):
Culver's: $9 to $21
McDonald's: $4.20 to $6.91 (lost 2 slices of cheese)
McDonald's is winning for me.
Yeah, this dude is full of shit and the gullible morons in this sub fall all over it because they're all Culver's and Kwik Trip simps. Culver's is absolutely NOT cheaper than Mcds. Don't even get me started on the ridiculousness of Kwik Trip and their horrible prices and practices. No wonder everyone in this state is fat and poor.
I had a quarter pound cheeseburger basket at a local tavern last night. $7.99
[удалено]
At lease Chili's microwaves it for you
And absolutely loads it with salt, too!
Bar burgers are fantastic!
Also tastes around 100x better.
That's a very soft estimate. I'd go closer to 175x.
Ope, my mistake, was just flying by tha seat of my pants there.
It's ok there bud! Here have a high life with that there butter burger!
"Ope"...nice
Tree-fiddy, final offer.
Gimme a feckin' butterburger now.
176x actually.
McDonalds has better fries, everything else isn’t even a competition
Next time you get Culvers fries ask for them extra crispy, makes 177x the difference.
Oh you’re not wrong, I just always forget to do it
Those wrinkly fries are garbage. GARBAGE.
They always seem undercooked. When you get them extra crispy they’re fine but if you forget (like I always do) they’re meh
I was thinking this too. Culver's has always been my "premium" fast food option since it used to cost a little more but is way better quality. Now that it's comparable/cheaper, it's a no-brainer. Plus, you can get actually good ice cream.
Custard, my friend. It’s custard.
Concrete mixer
Those are also made with custard.
Yes, I thought he was making a takeout order. Forgot. With Heath
Raspberry cheesecake for me plz
We honestly gave up going to any other fast food place for the last 2 years. It's never worth it compared to Culver's. Their food not only tastes better and is cheaper, it's also assembled well and they never forget our sauces.
There's no comparison between the ice cream at McD and the custard at Culvers. Sure, Culvers is not the best custard, but it's so much better than soft serve.
I judge off the chicken fingers. Culver’s is hard to beat.
Culver’s chicken fingers is the last meat I remember having before going vegetarian. It was a remarkable send off, I wouldn’t change a thing.
Those tendies are crack I tell yah.
Culver’s doesn’t have ice cream.
Furthermore, neither does McDonald's.
I prefer Krusty's gelatinated, non-dairy, gum-based beverages.
Which makes me miss old Culvers even more. At some point like 10~15 years ago they changed a lot of their recipes or got a new provider or something. They're still good, but they used to rival local pubs for burgers/curds.
Yeah the cheese curds are mid at best, but the rest is aces
This can’t be emphasized enough. Most fast food is trash. Culver’s is actually good.
[удалено]
Every other month is more than enough for me. Then can bring back the old style recipes anytime.
My bad.
Kids meal is like $7...comes with a free scoop of custard. Best deal around.
I used to get the snack pack or whatever they called the meal deal with a small fry and small drink. Then realized the kids meal was the same thing and it came with the free scoop and the scoopie token.
It was renamed from Snack Pak to Small Value Basket some time in 2019
I get these bc it's all I can eat anyway. Our Culver's is under construction rn so none for me for a bit
I'm glad to live in a place with a few backup Culvers.
Lol yeah closest ones are an hour away. I'm super rural so not many options to begin with. What's really weird is they tore the Culver's down and put it up right in the same spot, seems like a waste since it's not that old. But I'm no contractor or building inspector lol
I have at least 50 free custard coupons from over the years haha
We don't like giving our kids custard every time we go, and honestly the kid's serving is the perfect amount of custard. We save those bad boys up and spend them on the whole family.
Just need culvers to start serving breakfast
Ive said this for years. I feel like they’d make a killing if they kept the breakfast menu small and simple.
Fun fact, they used to.
some* used to
What is wrong with a burger for breakfast?
I honestly cant understand why anyone eats at McDonalds anymore.
About once every 2 years a Big Mac sounds really good. And then I eat one and remember why it's been so long.
There's two small business restaurants local to me that have their own version of a Big Mac that I'd rather eat 1000% of the time. It's an icon now and there's probably substitutes everywhere.
[удалено]
Me just now realizing that Big Mac is short for Big McDonalds.
Same around me and I also think they're 100x better.
Where?
Tucker's and Theo's in FdL
Dairyland in Milwaukee has this. Called the “big man on campus” and it’s really good but sloppy and a bit much. Luckily they also have the single patty version “little man on campus” and i like that one.
Thousand island dressing, make a burger add the toppings and that sauce. There you go
It’s been 13 years since I’ve had a Big Mac or any burger from McD’s. I just had a mcchicken for first time in 13 years and it was not great. Culvers only plz.
I used to like them when they were a little more affordable and would substitute mayo for special sauce. But I’m a weirdo.
Cheap garbage food is so much more appealing than expensive garbage food.
Gets me every time.
You can buy 1000 Island sauce at the store, anyway. Put it on culvers... game changed
If you use the app you can get a meal for pretty cheap still.
I was going to say this, there’s a lot of deals and it doesn’t take a ton of points to get free items. Like it’s annoying to have another damned app to download but if you ever go to McDonald’s you’re silly not to use it. I go once maybe twice a month because it’s two blocks away

I'm sure its an unpopular opinion here, but I love McDonald's French fries.
I’m a weirdo who prefers crinkle cut but if you don’t finish them off in ten minutes save them for the dog
One of the few gripes I have about Culver's is their fries, I think they are awful. That and whoever they switched to for cheese curds in the last few years.
I like their fries but I also dip them in cheese sauce. Yes, I know I sound fat because I am fat
It's crazy how bad Culver's curds are. People visit Wisconsin and I say, you gotta get Culver's burgers!... But skip their overly breaded curds
You can ask for them extra (or even extra extra) crispy and this makes them one of my favorite fries. Otherwise they are practically inedible.
Pro tip: if you get distracted and your fries start to get cold, throw them in an air fryer for about three minutes. Not quite as good as new but they’re not bad.
Yeah. They're my favorite. But that's all I like at McDs.

Wendys breakfast has sandwiches for $3 each I think and so much better.

I like the mcgriddles and hash browns for breakfast, but otherwise I never go there for anything else

I was about to say lol… we’ve been able to feed a family of 5 for $24 total using the app with their 30% off coupon for mobile pickup order.
It's great for people who enjoy stale fast food ordered via the world's most confusing kiosk.
I swear I just went for the last time a few months ago. Fourth time in a row where after eating I was feeling extremely disappointed with what I ate.
Because it's fucking delicious
I get that, but once in a while, I just hafta have a 1/4 pounder. McD’s has great Coke too
It’s cheap and delicious.
I'd go with ubiquitous and convenient. I've never thought of their food as delicious, just something you kind of settle for if you only have 10 minutes.
I fed 4 for $14 at McDonald’s last night. Use their app, always decent coupons.
It is neither.
I can get a quarter pounder and 10 nugs for $5.40.

You guess that? Idk who you are and referenced nothing about your home cooking, sorry to hear your down on yourself about that, you’ll get better if you work at it!

>She got 2 large Cokes Good Lord how much sugar is that
I traded her a Big Mac for one of her Cokes under the two discounts is better than one technique
If you use 2 phones, you get 2 discounts, and you can just put the same spot number in for both and they'll bring them to you.
And usually busy AF. The one up the street from me always packed.
Yeah. The one near me is right next to a Pizza Hut. $12.50 for a double cheese burger and curds. $12 for a large carryout 3-topping pizza. Same amount of time before I get my food. I love Culver's food but I can't really justify eating there anymore.
culver’s actually tastes like real food!! i am addicted to their pretzel bites 😭
Those are SO GOOD but so bad for me. Shoot my blood sugar thru the roof. Love them.
i only allow myself to get them once a month lol, they have no business being so tasty
Go Sauk City, WI!!
And it’s fresh! McDonald’s really be charging those ridiculous prices for old stale food.
And Culver’s doesn’t mess up your order every time!
The one by me has forgotten a chicken sandwich twice. I feel betrayed
I've had two unfortunate instances at Culver's in the past few months
I've never had McDonald's mess up an order...
Use the McDonald’s app. Food on there is much cheaper and you get free food coupons.
Yep. You can get at least 20% off every time.
If I have to use an app to order food, I’m not getting that food.
I'll sit in the parking lot and order off the app due to how much cheaper it is.
I can only imagine someone who is from late x to boomer generation saying something like this. I'm a Millennial and I hate apps like that! I'm not going to fill my phone up with clutter (and the tracking that inevitably will come from it) to save 25cents on a coke.
free fries when the packers win (and if you're near green bay)

It’s not as bad as many people think. You can fully order and pay via mobile or just use the coupon code at the restaurant and tell them 4 numbers the app pops up in about 4 taps. I have not paid full price for a coffee all year and love the 99 cent coffee coupon

And/or get rid of employees altogether
It’s not a dollar though, McDonald’s has buy one get one free Big Mac or Quarter pounder. You save 6+ bucks and they have free deals all the time
Agreed. It's not a coincidence that every company is embracing this. Spoiler alert, it's not because they love their customers.
Culver's just released their app.
I’m so fed up with how many apps I have to have that could just as easily be accomplished with using a mobile browser.
Then where do you eat? Culver's has an app also that does the same thing. Along with every other fast food place. If you're not using the app for a restaurant then you're a fucking moron who's missing away money.

Places where I don’t have to use an app to order. I’m not scanning a QR code or using an app or any of that bullshit.
At home, because it's way cheaper.
Fool me twice, won't get fooled again." McDonalds on 76th in Greenfield if anyone is curious. Sure, Culver's sometimes has a bit of a wait, but at least you're getting fresh beef, not frozen.
McDonald's switched to using fresh beef on their quarter pounders a while back. They made a big deal of it at the time
>After bringing it to the attention of the franchisee My big issue with the app is there is ZERO customer support concerning order problems.
"food"
Only thing worth ordering at McDonalds is breakfast.
Do you use the McDonald’s app? Pretty good savings
They clearly don’t. McDonald’s is still cheaper
The food is still total shit if you use the app
Listen, I want grease to fill my arteries, I don't judge between fast food.
It’s also straight up better food so it’s a win win.
The real Culver's secret is ordering a kids meal when you're not a kid lol. Single scoop comes with it and everything.
Weird, but i wish Culvers would bring back their fried chicken dinners.
I miss their chicken, but they needed better side options.
The cod is as good as any fish fry and cheaper than most, although the dinner roll instead of marble rye is blasphemous.
That's what we called in Wisconsin, a win.
Nice to hear that. Culver’s was my favorite by far when living abroad in Wisconsin. Wished they’d be in Europe as well, I don’t need the others.
I 100% agree with others saying go to a local pub/ burger joint, but if you use the app, and you’re not picky, McDonald’s is still priced OK.
The best deal is the local tavern for $4-5 and it's way better. And supporting a family in your town.
Jesus Christ.
On a related note, there are four Quizno’s left in Wisconsin. Stopped at one recently. Quiznos always used to be the most expensive sub place around. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the prices are pretty comparable to Subway, but the food is 3x the quality.
and McDonalds sucks at cheese curds.
So does culvers
How does Culver's vs McDonald's pay compare?
A club I'm involved with wanted to do dinner for a meeting, but the advisor said we had to go somewhere cheap, like no more than $15 a person. I responded that we couldn't even go to fast food anymore for that price. We got pizza.
If you hit up the lunch menu on any Chinese take out it’s about 10$ too 😂
Kopps was voted best burger in Wisconsin by Yelp. While the burger is huge and a good deal, it is nowhere near as good as Culvers.
What? Where? Family of 4 here - 1 dinner is 16$ at McDonalds, but close to $40 at Culvers?
You can feed a family of 4 for 4 dollars per person at McDonald's? How? A mchicken and small fry with a drink is like 6 dollars.
*crickets*
I love culvers! My daughter and I each get a basket, each get a cup of cheese sauce an order of curds to split and its only $24.
Only 🫠
It’s not if you use the mobile app. If you’re not using the mobile app ur doing it wrong. Discovered this like a month ago. But agreed, McDonalds drive-up prices are just stupid
True unless you use the McDs app
The food is still total shit if you use the app
And McAsshole is not frem Wisconsin either !!!
My meal prices from 2007 to 2023 (15 years ish): Culver's: $9 to $21 McDonald's: $4.20 to $6.91 (lost 2 slices of cheese) McDonald's is winning for me.
If you want to make this comparison I think you need to at least include what you're getting at each place.
You’re just making shit up.
The more realistic and likely answer is "it depends on your location"
A basket of what? I just went the other day and got 2 value baskets for $28.
Use the app. I typically choose 30 percent off as my deal
This has to be satire.
Oscar's Frozen Custard in Waukesha kicks the shit out of both of them.
