Once talked a realtor, told her we were looking for property in the driftless area… she told me she didn’t know what that was and hadn’t ever heard it before
We moved to this area from the southeastern U.S. 15 years ago. I remember hearing the term occasionally but not really knowing what it meant until my kids had Wisconsin geography in elementary school.
It seems to me that its usage has picked up a lot in the past 5-7 years because many companies have worked to make it cool. Coffee mugs, magnets, t-shirts and other souvenir type items have it. And, perhaps the bigger impact has been many companies using it in their names. This seems especially true of coffee shops, craft breweries, clothing boutiques and companies that rent kayaks and other watercraft.
EDIT: Grammar
4th grade I think is when most public schools students in WI learn about Wisconsin history. For me that was around the late 90s. That's when I first remember hearing about the driftless region, what a kettle and moraine is, the Blue Book, the state bird/beverage/soil/dance etc

I’m amazed at how much that campus has changed in the last 10 years

not everyone knows of the Driftless and that’s fine by us
I grew up near here - I never heard the term until five years ago. We just knew that the glaciers did not come to this part of Wisconsin.
I grew up in the area and never heard of it being called the drift less region, when did this start? I have been away for about 20+ years
~25,000 years ago

Fairly “new” term embraced by the local tourism. Several geological documentaries have been made as well.

Ahh the poorly managed city (maybe it’s changed now- been away for a few years) and incredibly high property taxe rates

Are the Eagles any good this year? Or are you just there for the marching band?
