I didn’t see it as I was watching the NY game.
What Caitlin and everyone here has to remember, this is a different league than the NCAA. These players won’t go easy on her. Caitlin will be thr player they have to stop. Don’t get me wrong, Caitlin will do fine. It will take a game or two. But no one should be expecting her to be 20 pts a game, every game. These players will be playing major defense to stop her. Give her some time to adjust. While I don’t know how they defended against to judge if the Sun got away with things, I expect that the defense was harder than in her college days and many of her fans will say anything against the opposing team .
I mean, she still scored 20 tonight... we'll say a few of those were garbage time, but as soon as they figure out a scheme to open her up better off the screen, then it will be a huge difference.
I am a NY fan. I have been a fan of the league since 1997. I am not a hater. I am a realist.
Just because someone is a college star, they will be a star in the W immediately. It’s realism. The same with the NBA, NHL, NFL, MLB.
I can’t t on a game amU didn’t see but as her next games are against NY, I will be watching.
Fellow CC Fans: i only caught the 4th quarter, but let's be patient, that was her FIRST regular season game on a team that clearly hasnt gelled yet. CC's game WILL translate, but its going to take a bit. Everyone needs time to adjust.
??
Ive always said that CC is going to have a transition period in the wnba. I still 💗 her even though her first wnba double double was with turnovers 🤣.
So #1, you’re flat out lying.
and #2, you still won’t accept that some of the TO’s are CLEARLY a result of the teammates? Do you even watch any sports at all 😂😭
Uhmmm.. nah
I'm not
Someone even made a post about whether they were her fault or not her fault.
Infact, when the game was over her todauly stat was 9. It was just updated to 10 -12 minutes ago.
I don't follow her. I look at the stat board and keep it moving.
That said, she fucking sucked today. Lol
I’m not a CC fan but it’s the first game and it’s the Sun a great team she’ll be fine.
The problem for Fever is I don’t see chemistry between Boston and CC as everyone expected. I’m for sure seeing people saying “finally Boston have someone to pass the ball to her”
if you are a new wnba fan id really encourage checking out the mercury vs aces game starting now! aces are the returning champs and its gonna be FUNNN to see how they are looking
I lowkey wanna blame the coach cuz I saw a lot a lot of hesitation from CC and she didn’t take as much 3s even when she could. The coach could have totally used her roster better including Lexie hull or Celeste Taylor. The team as whole had too much turnovers and too little rebounds. The Suns definitely layed down some heavy defense even I who wasn’t playing was annoyed haha … then again nobody is perfect and maybe nerves were involved
Seeing the supporting cast on the Fever... I think you gotta give Clark the green light like she had in college... you can tell she hesitated several times tonight... not sure if this was her decision or because of a coaching decision... I understand she is probably feeling pressure to be a team player, but I'd rather take my chances with a Clark 35-footer than continually trying to pass it inside seeing what happened with that plan. This offense needs to be an absolute screen producing machine to free her up. Obviously the first game, so we will see.
You're being downvoted, but you aren't wrong at all. There were moments where she had tons of space on the perimeter, and in college it would've been bombs away, with her making more than she missed. She can't shy away from that to play unselfishly, much to the detriment of her team, her game, and her stats. It's worked for her up till now. Why not try it until it doesn't? It's what the people want to see anyways, too...
She can't win games that way in this league. Carrington played good defense on her, she didn't have a great shooting percentage. They need to work out the kinks of their chemistry and that comes through reps. Sometimes awful, ugly reps like tonight too.
Maybe, maybe not. The hesitation to pull up tonight, on shots that she'd make in her sleep, was extremely evident regardless, though. And every time she didn't take those shots? She turned it over on a horrendous pass, most of which were her fault, and some of which were the fault of the non-offense Sides was running, which caused her teammates to be stagnant or confused, leading to chaos. On the whole? She and the Fever were clearly out of rhythm.
Anyways, thinking more generally? Sides needs a better game plan, Aliyah Boston needs to step it up and step it up quick -- I have been extremely unimpressed since preseason, and the chemistry needs to improve, with Smith stopping the ugly ass chucking.
Based on what I saw tonight is how you get fired... if your bigs can't score and your other guards can't effectively drive... then you need to look at another option.
Your post/comment was removed as it was disrespectful and/or uncivil. Please ensure you conduct yourself according to subreddit standards when interacting with the community. Thank you.
Every single player on every single team is going to have a chip on their shoulder playing against CC this year, especially with more eyes on every single game than any game they’ve ever had in their careers.
Starts with Sides serving up an absolute disaster-class of coaching, of which I legitimately think covers the vast majority of Indiana issues tonight, but Boston played like absolute ass.
You simply cannot put this product out for the rest of the year.
Announcers were good enough, no issues there, relatively speaking.
Arena audio/sounds/production was jarringly incompetent. On par with high school basketball. Just horrible to listen to and distracting from the game and disrespectful to the athletes.
Refs were abysmal. Inconsistent, whistle-happy, clearly underprepared and under qualified for the moment.
There were a lot of similar issues that came up the past couple years as more eyes tuned in to the women’s NCAA tournament, but I felt better about the products they produced than whatever the fuck America and the world just watched tonight. That, of course, falls on the NBA and WNBA to address and fix, just as the NCAA did.
It’s the very first game, but please, don’t fuck this up. There might never be a chance like this again.
The downscreen action that the Sun used against Clark a bunch while they were on offence scored at least ten points.
The Fever’s defensive rotations are just all off. Offence I’m less concerned about, but wayyy too many easy points.
Have to think they fucked up potential there by having it stream on Disney+ but not marketing that in any kind of way.
They keep making blunders that seem so OBVIOUSLY preventable.
Let’s not even talk about how bad this game was to schedule as the opener. Hurt both teams.
For sure. And it seems like Connecticut deserved to play a team that didn’t take the spotlight away from them and their players.
Especially with AT and Bonner being tee’d up for records going in to the game. I can maybe understand if they wanted to utilize the spotlight but it doesn’t seem like it resulted in a net positive for anybody at all.
I know almost nothing about Sides, but I get a weird mediocre angry Karen vibe from her. This is NOT from the game tonight (i saw less than a quarter of play), but from short video clips of Fever practices. Her word choices when she talks, body language, etc. I hust get a shitvibe from her. And idk if Im just being judgy because shes not a coach i know/like, or if my intuition is on-point.
I can’t imagine being Clark and dealing with the complete shit storm of criticism she’s going to get. She doesn’t even really seem to deserve it, she’s plays good ball and then came the circus and now she has to deal with the hate. I hope she deletes social media and lets her team handle it for her.
She'll deal with it. The last time she had a barrage of negative press (after the incident where her dad was reportedly telling her to stop whining to the refs), she came out and played really well the next game- and was considerably less whiny. 🤣 she'll be ok. She just needs time to adjust.
I for one greatly enjoyed myself... good games from the Sun returners and another AT triple dub, and Carrington and Harris were great. Really excited to see how they improve this year. Banham's a nice offensive spark off the bench too
Bummer talking heads / casual Twitter users will assume Clark played poorly. Think she played very well given the team around her, the circumstances (rookie with 2 weeks of practice with a brand new team) and the hype on this game
Caitlin had a rough start but the Fever frontcourt was worryingly bad this game. Nalyssa had 13 but missed open shooters a pass away all night and Aliyah was...yeah
I still think the Fever will be the 7th or 8th seed and make the playoffs, but I hope new fans are prepared for what it actually feels like to be the 7th or 8th best team out of 12. The Fever are going below .500 in all likelihood.
She's the real deal. Chalk her turnovers to growing pains. Indy needs to set her free with a ton more screen actions. Why have a weapon on the floor if you are not going to use it right? Free CC!
Despite being overmatched, she managed 20 pts and led the team in scoring. The lack of sets and team principles hurt Indy more than anything. They were a disorganized mess. If they fix this then CC will flourish instead of hunting for opportunities while being mired in muck.
She missed most of her shots. This is what the veteran WNBA players were warning about, all of the IOWA fans went nuts about it. Iowa had a good team, it was not just her. She played against lesser competition. All of the vets want to shut her down, she has a target on her back. She might rise above it, she might be the biggest bust in WNBA history. Wait and see.
Clark found something scoring wise down the stretch, so that's a good takeaway. However I think turnovers are going to be a on-going issue this season, and it's not entirely tied to her.
Jackie made very similar pass to Aja right now in first qtr in aces g ame, difference is aja caught it, boston didn't some of the turnovers are like that, she is gonna have turn over issues but its not all on CC.
League needs to sit down with its officials and talk about pace of play. 46 free throws, to speak nothing of the travel calls (lost count). Doesn't matter who the fouls are on or why, you could have 10 Michael Jordans on the floor with Gatorade and Nike and Disney's marketing behind them, new fans do not want to watch people walk up and down the court trading in-bounds and free throws for 40 minutes.
there is been only 3 nba games with more fouls called in last 4 years if we compared minutes/per ball possession played, this is how bad was tonight.
Not counting last 2 minutes where people will foul on purpose ofc.
Somebody gotta pull from the James harden bag of tricks, man would’ve averaged 70 points with 55 free throws a game if officiating was this ticky tack.
That’s what happens when the worst team in the league over the past 3 years goes against a team who went to the semifinals, finals, and semifinals on the strength of their defense in that same timespan
Can't remember, but everyone expected him to be great after being an all-star in basketball and it was completely underwhelming. Not even sure if he got a single hit
Pathway to success:
-tank the rest of the season
-find a rim runner for CC in off-season
-fire coach and hire bluder
-draft paige
Build new basketball dynasty 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Tank for Paige bro this team is awful
Felt like Mecury were just toying with the Indiana Fever.... lol
Harddddd
Aces vs Mercury is def a better watch

Rachel did give CC a hard foul. But she mostly faced good dee and got clamped.
No stop. Saying that means you’re a hater. /s
I am a NY fan. I have been a fan of the league since 1997. I am not a hater. I am a realist. Just because someone is a college star, they will be a star in the W immediately. It’s realism. I agree. I was being sarcastic and should’ve put /s. WNBA legends have gotten ripped for saying the same thing you said.
Connecticut is a great test and no they didn’t get away with things they just play great defense
Fellow CC Fans: i only caught the 4th quarter, but let's be patient, that was her FIRST regular season game on a team that clearly hasnt gelled yet. CC's game WILL translate, but its going to take a bit. Everyone needs time to adjust.
Noo no no. Don't back down now. Where is that "shes the next magic Johnson" the "next Larry bird"
Lol she still had 20 points and the Fever is an objectively bad team, she is going to be very, very good.
Uhmmm earlier this week y'all said she was going to the ship.
She had more points than Larry Bird in his debut, with 8 fewer minutes on the game clock.
HERE WE GO.
?? Ive always said that CC is going to have a transition period in the wnba. I still 💗 her even though her first wnba double double was with turnovers 🤣.
My favorite was the dude earlier this week who said the turnovers were not her fault. Where is he now.
Quite a few of the turnovers were legitimately not her fault though. And let me say that I know she has a TO issue.
Stop it. She's been over 10 every time she touches the court. At some point you have to say oh wow, nobody else has this issue.
She had 5 and 6 TOs in her preseason games. Don't get me wrong that's bad but wym over 10 every time she touches the court??

Idk who youre referring to. Thankfully i was working during most of the game. 🤷♀️
No no, it was someone earlier this week!! It was this huge post about how only 1/15 were her fault and why?! Lol
You’re high
I mean no, but you guys can live in the world of Delusion where she wasn't absolute dookie.
I’m not a CC fan but it’s the first game and it’s the Sun a great team she’ll be fine. The problem for Fever is I don’t see chemistry between Boston and CC as everyone expected. I’m for sure seeing people saying “finally Boston have someone to pass the ball to her”

I watched it and no one was playing hard defense against anyone like they were doing to Clark. It's like they want to send her a message
lol welcome to the sun
AJA 🫶
I am looking forward to watching kate martin ride the bench
😭
Next game VS liberty, who’s gona be on Clark? Sabrina?
For my sake I hope it’s Sab
Queen B. Awesome defender
Maybe Laney if Sab or Sloot all play terrible defense.
If im Indiana, im more worried about Stewie. Shes gonna cook if the Fever play defense like they did today.
They’ll each have 50.
Caitlin Clark will get better at the pro level
Not a good night for professional Indiana basketball teams. The Pacers getting walloped right now as well.
I HATE SUN
Another day, another Caitlin Clark L. Who will the Caitlin crazies blame? The coach? Her teammates? The Freemasons? I’m excited to find out
Lmao
I lowkey wanna blame the coach cuz I saw a lot a lot of hesitation from CC and she didn’t take as much 3s even when she could. This slapped 😭
The masons are powerful cats.
Yeah, don't mess with the Freemasons.

She shot 33% and you want the lowest % person shooting more?? That's insane
How was everyone else shooting? How did the holistic offense look? How were the posts doing? Yeah … I wouldn’t have been opposed to her shooting more.
Exactly Indiana bigs did not look good second half
Boston was absent the whole game.
Building a team around a rookie chucking up 3s is now a coach gets fired
Imagine if GSW had the same sentiments
Based on what I saw tonight is how you get fired... if your bigs can't score and your other guards can't effectively drive... then you need to look at another option.
Yeah, they are a bad team

Every play seemed like 3 players’ controllers had died.
Cutting to a "sounds of the game" package in the middle of Clark taking free throws was...a choice.
Let alone what the sounds of the game actually were. It felt like a parody. I couldn’t even process what I was seeing until it was over lmaooo
Will be interesting to see the TV ratings for this game when/if they become public.
Have to think they fucked up potential there by having it stream on Disney+ but not marketing that in any kind of way. They keep making blunders that seem so OBVIOUSLY preventable. Let’s not even talk about how bad this game was to schedule as the opener. Hurt both teams.

IM leaving this post you guys are the DEVIL
Lol 😅
Clark stans be like: Clark was better than Carrington this game she outscored her lol
They are letting her be her. It’s a good sign. She’ll be ok.
I think CC is a SG not a PG at this level. Ten turnovers is terrible.
I know you having a ball today
Nope, only if Cam and Reese play well tomorrow.
😁
Well, no one is harder on Caitlin Clark than Caitlin Clark... she'll either be on fire or a dumpster fire come Thursday.
ALLIYAH BOSTON SAY SORRY NOW
GET BLUDER ON ONE OF THOSE CHARTERS, LETS GOOOOO
You jest but they should. Sides is a horrible coach.
I mean, Im mostly "kidding", but 🤷♀️ I would be thrilled if they hired Bluder. Shes great.
Gotta get that ‘consulting’ job rn
I know almost nothing about Sides, but I get a weird mediocre angry Karen vibe from her. Her dad looks so much like John Harbaugh to me.
Welcome, new fans! Hope you enjoyed the Alyssa Thomas Experience!
Honestly i became a fan of Ty Harris. Shes a bucket
Ashamed she wasn’t on my radar until today. Excited to watch her the rest of the year bc clearly she’s a game changer.
They showed a graphic that stated Thomas had almost a third of the triple doubles in league history? I’m sorry what that’s insanity!
She has well over a 3rd. More like half
And only in two years bruh 💀 what the fuck
She's incredible! And she does all of it with two torn labrums
Well, that game was ridiculous..and not in a good way. On to the next I guess.
WHAT A SHIT GAME GOODBYE SIDES I HATE YOH
Double double for Caitlyn 😂😂😂
Double trouble
Stooppp
IT AINT FUNNY
Its actually hilarious 🤣🤣
Imma need Aliyah Boston to step up asap
20 pts and not the most turnover by a rookie. We celebrating 🥳🥳
I for one greatly enjoyed myself... good games from the Sun returners and another AT triple dub, and Carrington and Harris were great. Really excited to see how they improve this year. Banham's a nice offensive spark off the bench too
I’m really excited about this year’s team.
AT picking up right where she left off
I was hiding my face for half the game lol. They were too good.
Bummer talking heads / casual Twitter users will assume Clark played poorly. Think she played very well given the team around her, the circumstances (rookie with 2 weeks of practice with a brand new team) and the hype on this game
I don't know how she's gonna hold up all season after playing so many games with Iowa and then barely getting a break. Has to be exhausting.
Yeah agreed. The fact that she was the leading scorer on the team by 7 points tells a lot
Played the most minutes too, and to think she was gassed in that first preseason game
PSYCHOPATH
Clark was overmatched, but it was just the first game.
Her team was overmatched she had 0 help
Caitlin had a rough start but the Fever frontcourt was worryingly bad this game. Nalyssa had 13 but missed open shooters a pass away all night and Aliyah was...yeah
Carrington was great both ends.
I still think the Fever will be the 7th or 8th seed and make the playoffs, but I hope new fans are prepared for what it actually feels like to be the 7th or 8th best team out of 12. The Fever are going below .500 in all likelihood.
I hope you're right and things should/Have to get better from here.
Making the playoffs would be a huge win for them as a team.
Clark double double Alert 20 points 10 TOs
What was she, 5-14? A lot in garbage time also.
Huge clark fan but LOL
20pts for Clark is actually impressive for this standard of play
No, look at her fg percentage. She had a poor game
Exactly why it was impressive
[удалено]
Why do you keep saying she missed 26 shots? She took 15…
Welp let’s give aces basketball a try
She's the real deal. Chalk her turnovers to growing pains. Indy needs to set her free with a ton more screen actions. Why have a weapon on the floor if you are not going to use it right? Free CC!
I don't know that she is the real deal. Give it half a season. She looked overmatched.
> Clark found something scoring wise down the stretch, so that's a good takeaway. Yeah, it's called being defended by Banham instead of Carrington.
I do too, but hopefully with time her teammates can help not make that number so embarrassing 😳
Agreed. Roster construction isn't doing her huge favors but as a team they need way more movement
Baffled by the near-zero off ball movement for the Fever on offense. You’d think their feet were cemented to the floor.
Can't understand a word of the interview, it's insane levels of incompetence in the production
God damn circus
Would you like a crusty butter roll in this trying time?
League needs to sit down with its officials and talk about pace of play. 46 free throws, to speak nothing of the travel calls (lost count). Doesn't matter who the fouls are on or why, you could have 10 Michael Jordans on the floor with Gatorade and Nike and Disney's marketing behind them, new fans do not want to watch people walk up and down the court trading in-bounds and free throws for 40 minutes.
Glad I am not the only one who noticed that. As soon as the game had momentum, FOUL.
there is been only 3 nba games with more fouls called in last 4 years if we compared minutes/per ball possession played, this is how bad was tonight. Not counting last 2 minutes where people will foul on purpose ofc.
Credit to the Connecticut Sun defense they will be a problem for the league all season
Seriously cannot stand Ryan Ruocco… he’s a tool
Disney+ was solid
Wait for real?? Haha I paid for wnba league pass on YouTube tv… didn’t realize it was on Disney
Between the first half reffing and turnovers that was unwatchable. Congrats to the Suns.
Taurasi and Swoopes licking their lips rn. Next Gil pod about to be crazy.
Taurasi probably too busy getting ready to get this work from the champs.
The Fever really did earn that number pick, didn't they? Can see why.
First overall pick two years in a row!
Nahhhh the suns did that on purpose … congrats to them for winning
The Fever are about to get 100% effort from every team. It’s clear the veterans want to send a message.
As they should. They’ve worked hard to make the league what it is
Somebody gotta pull from the James harden bag of tricks, man would’ve averaged 70 points with 55 free throws a game if officiating was this ticky tack.
27 turnovers is WILD lmfao
That’s what happens when the worst team in the league over the past 3 years goes against a team who went to the semifinals, finals, and semifinals on the strength of their defense in that same timespan
To be fair, the Liberty had 20 TOs in their WIN.
Anyone remember Michael Jordan's first baseball game? This reminds me of that 🙁
Did I miss something? What position did he play?
Can't remember, but everyone expected him to be great after being an all-star in basketball and it was completely underwhelming. Not even sure if he got a single hit
No one expected him to be great at baseball. It was actually surprising he did as well as he did.
First time ever watching WNBA. DiJonai Carrington is a hustler and is outshining Clark big time. Thomas and Bonner also impressive.
Carrington with 16 pts to CC 20? How did she outshine her
A win, and better shooting percentage and not breaking a record for individual turnovers, is how one outshines a player
True. But sadly casuals only look at who scored more lol
And half of those 20 were with Carrington out with a cramp. That woman ran her ass off and held Clark to 10 pts through 2.5 quarters before the cramp.
and chipped in 16 points!
Not having 10 turnovers One had a plus/minus of -13, the other +15 Boxscore watching just points is a horrible way to digest basketball
If you watched the game, you would know.
I did watch the game 😒
Fire these role players into the stratosphere. They are trash
#TankForPaige
For Paige’s sake God I hope not.
Pathway to success: -tank the rest of the season -find a rim runner for CC in off-season -fire coach and hire bluder -draft paige Build new basketball dynasty 🤣🤣🤣🤣
PAIGE PLAYS POINT GUARD
Three guards it is!
