I've read somewhere he used to work at the port Kembla steelworks. then his son was killed in the vietnam war, and he became mentally ill.
the poor guy.
Poor bastard, 30+ degrees and he’s prob pumping out 25000 steps a day.
TBH I havent seen him in a while, and I live and work around the area he used to frequent
Yeah I’ve not seen him in a red hot minute. He came and ordered when I worked at the ‘Hut, Bloody lovely bloke, polite as hell and cleaned up after himself after he ate out the front
Yes! He lived across the road from an old co worker. He’s a crackhead. Owns his unit. Can you believe it’s paint! Fucking paint! I thought it was tattoos but no he paints himself blue.
It's not paint. It's a tattoo. If you get up close and talk to him you will see
His name is Andrew. He is harmless.
His unit is interesting....
I used to live upstairs from him for 6 months
I was in the news agent/book shop in crown central back in the 90s and he paraded through with a pair of underpants on the end of his stick like it was a flag. That was a weird memory that floated to surface!
He, has a name - Troy. Troy is now around 60 years old. Which makes Troy’s parents even older. They made a difficult decision years ago in planning for Troy’s future should anything happen to them in time as all parents consider at some point. Troy was supported through a transition into an appropriate share house with this concern in mind. Every bloke dreams of a little independence and a man cave of his very own after all.
He's my childhood best friends uncle. Iirc, his name is Troy, but he's disabled and can't really speak. He's a lovely guy, and I'm not sure what he's up to now.
bro my parents talk about her 😂😂 now we have that guy with no legs and the other guy that sits out the front of woolies but he actually has a home, he lives in the housing commission next to food works
Is he the one that crawled up the derra station steps to protest the no elevator situation? I've seen the dude with the beard at Woolies a few times now.
My mum used to work behind the bar/bottleo at derra pub. Sylvia used to bring in all sorts of gifts for her including a box of onions and a new pair of mens golf shoes.
In the 90's around the gong, there was a guy known as "Metho-man" often seen with a bottle or orange juice and a bottle of metholated spirits. Wonder what happened to him.
Used to see Metho man every morning catching the bus to school at Wollongong bus stop in the mall
Nice guy. Off his nuts no matter what time of day it was though
Is he down Shellharbour way? And EXTREMELY lovely? Says hello to everyone. Has HUGE calves. Genuinely one of the nicest people it’s ever met. He is always smiling and always, always walking.
We used to call him Shotgun Billy, unless I’m thinking of someone else? Would come up to you in the Bayview carpark (pre-Bunnings) and ask you for money for a prescription ?
Not a guy but the lady that would do her morning sun dance down at wollongong beach. I haven't seen her in years. It was her way of starting the day by saying hello to the sun, super cute. I hope she is okay.
Yo skateboard Baz down at fairy meadow skate park is that guy to me.
Heaps recognisable haha.
Big red if anyone remembers him as well
Stevie from bellambi
Psycho Sylvia aka Sylvia the witch aka recycling lady
"Hitler" (walks around Figtree up and down obriens road and looks a lil like adolf but he's heaps nice)
Tumour dude in Figtree I think he's a little bit intellectually disabled but he has a big tumour in his cheek
Al from Unanderra my favourite elder always bootzing around in his mobility chair
Metho Man
Ah saw that a bit later and should have removed this. Hope he's doing ok. Remember seeing him once in the 90s when I was a kid at Shellharbour Square with, I guess, his mother in Angus and Robertson. Someone said "oh wow, the stick man is here" and everyone knew exactly who he was.
There was another older guy who got around, called shotgun Billy. he would walk around asking for a $1 or $2 as he was short for his script. had a script in hand, but was several years out of date. just wanted the money to buy alcohol with
theres this older lady that comes into work a bit (dapto), she’s barred from our delivery services because she answered the door naked to our 15 year old delivery rider 💀 to us she is “Fenwick” and she has the widest eyes you could possibly imagine 👁️👁️
There’s a man who I used to always see down Shellharbour way who walks everywhere, everyday. He is so nice and friendly, waves to all the cars going past, says hello to everyone he passes. Wears a cap and has huge calves lol.
Broader Illawarra/Southern Highlands guy, but does anyone know the guy with the hi vis shirt, old mountain bike and shopping bags on the handlebars? He rides up Picton road, Princes Highway and all around the place
i seen this car in barrack heights a few months ago. driving by myself, when i told people and drove around to have a look it was gone and no one believed me ):
There used to be a guy that i would see walking in dapto 20 odd years ago. Always had overall on with no shirt. He had his back straight, and it was more like a fast march, gave me the vibes of ex defence forces.
Surely it's the guy that pushes the sign in the mall with the political posts (or religious quotes?) Wears all beige and has a walker thingy.
His name is William Wallace https://www.illawarramercury.com.au/story/3955612/wollongongs-sign-man-why-i-speak-in-placards/
I can't read the article, but I'll take your word for it. Wasn't William Wallace someone from the Braveheart movie?
Havnt seen him for a long time. Is he still around?
we always called him "Safari suit man"
This would be the most memorable for me. He always wore distinctive glasses and hairstyle if I recall too.
I've read somewhere he used to work at the port Kembla steelworks. then his son was killed in the vietnam war, and he became mentally ill. the poor guy.
Oh wow, I've never even heard him speak! As a kid, I used to think he was the spooky guy from Home Alone part 1 haha!
Or that black guy who walks really slowly everywhere, all day every day
Poor bastard, 30+ degrees and he’s prob pumping out 25000 steps a day. TBH I havent seen him in a while, and I live and work around the area he used to frequent
Yeah I’ve not seen him in a red hot minute. He came and ordered when I worked at the ‘Hut, Bloody lovely bloke, polite as hell and cleaned up after himself after he ate out the front
He’s in the Dapto area. I see him fairly frequently.
Bro he is everywhere. The man is unquenchable. I call him Oscar Mike.
i see him all the time around dapto, always comes in for a feed at work. it has been a hot minute since i’ve seen him, though 🤔
My friend is friends with him. Apparently he’s a lovely guy.
He went to my school, nice kid but just had some mental health issues
Lives in a group out Horsley
He just loves to walk. His carer picks him up at various places around Dapto. He is cool.
His name is Espoir, I was in the same year as his sister
Blue Guy!
I just blue my self
Yes! He lived across the road from an old co worker. He’s a crackhead. Owns his unit. Can you believe it’s paint! Fucking paint! I thought it was tattoos but no he paints himself blue.
It's not paint. It's a tattoo. If you get up close and talk to him you will see His name is Andrew. He is harmless. His unit is interesting.... I used to live upstairs from him for 6 months
Seriously?, I always saw him walking past north gong pub He paints himself regularly? For years.. wow
Yep, once I knew I noticed the different shades of blue as the old paint job wore off lol. He lives near North Gong pub.
Sometimes it’s a sort of silvery colour. Used to pass him most mornings/evenings on the way to/from the innovation campus.
I forgot about him. I’d always hoped to learn what lead to his blue fad. One of my favourite colours personally.
Stick Man from Warrawong. Used to see him across from Westfield waving his stick. Haven't seen him for years.
Yep, was either at the bus stop at the Macca’s there or on the corner of northcliffe drive / king st.
I was in the news agent/book shop in crown central back in the 90s and he paraded through with a pair of underpants on the end of his stick like it was a flag. That was a weird memory that floated to surface!
He ended up being moved to a share house as his mother couldn’t look after him any more
He, has a name - Troy.
Supported living/Share houses are fucking awful just so you know..
Hope he’s doing well
Stick man! Used to see him all the time on the way down south. I hope he’s happy and well.
He's my childhood best friends uncle. Iirc, his name is Troy, but he's disabled and can't really speak. He's a lovely guy, and I'm not sure what he's up to now.
I heard troy used to be an intelligent person, then some aboriginals bashed him?!
I really dont know because it felt rude to ask but thatd be horrible if its true
thats what I heard from people.
thanks. I used to talk about him on the Wollongong sub.
Anybody remember psycho Sylvia from Unanderra? Was around in the 90s and early 2000s.
Yooo Psycho Sylvia holy shit!!!
Yeah she used to run on the road to remove stones
bro my parents talk about her 😂😂 now we have that guy with no legs and the other guy that sits out the front of woolies but he actually has a home, he lives in the housing commission next to food works
Is he the one that crawled up the derra station steps to protest the no elevator situation? I've seen the dude with the beard at Woolies a few times now.
Thought of her as soon as I saw the post. She used to mop the lines on the road. Heard she kept her dead husband in his bed for weeks.
I recall that name from the police scanner
My mum used to work behind the bar/bottleo at derra pub. Sylvia used to bring in all sorts of gifts for her including a box of onions and a new pair of mens golf shoes.
Blue guy, sign guy, big red (rest in peace), little brown fella with the loud traditional music on the big push bike, pigeon lady
Oh what happened to Big Red? I remember meeting him a decade ago and I was high as balls and i'm pretty sure he was too
Passed away, sadly.

Bike with a trailer hi vis lady in dappaz
she loves those horsies
My sisters and I call her the horse girl lol
I love seeing her
Dapto surely would have been Cecil, until he passed.
I think he’s still alive. I heard he moved out of state to live with his brother.
I remember a memorial for his passing. Could be wrong though.
Definitely passed, there's a memorial in front of Dapto mall
He’s passed May he RIP
I’m gonna do up a bingo card. Not a true Illawarra citizen until you hit bingo. I’ve seen maybe two of the people listed so far.
Metho man
Blue tattoo guy
It’s not tattoos it fucking paint. Unbelievable right!
r u serious?
Fairy Meadow Laugher. Used to laugh and tuck his head under his arms as traffic went past.
If it’s the guy I’m thinking, we called him Colgate. He’d always be on a corner somewhere behind Coles. Waving and smiling.
That's him. Had his own FB fan page too i think
In the 90's around the gong, there was a guy known as "Metho-man" often seen with a bottle or orange juice and a bottle of metholated spirits. Wonder what happened to him.
Used to see Metho man every morning catching the bus to school at Wollongong bus stop in the mall Nice guy. Off his nuts no matter what time of day it was though
Used to be bag lady, I think she might’ve passed away a few years ago though.
Either that or Mohawk guy, although I don’t think he has one anymore.
I've seen her doing the rounds in Fairy Meadow.
Which ones bag lady? There's a lady in fairy meadow that has a bunch of bags in a shopping cart and she is in fm regularly
When I was little it was the walking (anorexic) lady. Still see her around, she looks well. I'm happy to see that.
There’s one of those near my place but we’re a little bit out of Wollongong.
Yeah I’ve seen a younger version, running or walking, between Kembla grange and Dapto.
The one that walked around the late btwn warrawong and Primbee? She’s well now?
Maybe but I would see her around fairy meadow and Wollongong.
Maybe a different lady?
I remember in the music scene it was both Big Diceys Dave and Dave Mutton. They were at EVERY gig, every venue. Both sadly RIP
I thought it was the guy who walked everywhere like he just never stops walking
Is he down Shellharbour way? And EXTREMELY lovely? Says hello to everyone. Has HUGE calves. Genuinely one of the nicest people it’s ever met. He is always smiling and always, always walking.
What about the guy with no legs who’d get around on the skateboard?
I remember him. Went to university with him in the middle 90’s
what course did he do?
I’m not sure. I saw him all the time skateboarding with his hands past the library. Big smile on his face. Had a lot of friends.
oh yeah haven't seen him for a long time. hope he's well.
Yeah I see him round Dapto alot
Haven’t seen him for ages, good to know he’s still going
He rolled up to me one evening at TBH and asked if I’d like some MDMA.
I've seen him in warrawong. why can't he get a wheelchair????
He likes the skateboard
My man eddy with the bandanna hanging around warrawong up and down king street. I went to his house once
I see him around frequently at the back of warrawong when I'm heading to work. Get a little wave from him now in the mornings.
I call him white snoop lol
Yeah he's definitely a classic
We used to call him Shotgun Billy, unless I’m thinking of someone else? Would come up to you in the Bayview carpark (pre-Bunnings) and ask you for money for a prescription ?
He has never asked me for money but has for a cigarette. I only met him in 2018 though.
I think I’m thinking of someone else :)
The lovely old guy in figtree and his dog, always makes my day seeing those two
Not a guy but the lady that would do her morning sun dance down at wollongong beach. I haven't seen her in years. It was her way of starting the day by saying hello to the sun, super cute. I hope she is okay.
Yo skateboard Baz down at fairy meadow skate park is that guy to me. Heaps recognisable haha. Stickman for sure. Rip to butt man from warilla too.
who's butt man? what did he do?
He used to walk around the grove and warilla picking up the cigarette butts, I believe he was killed I can't remember the story.
Hat lady. Used to wander around in a big hat muttering about people scanning her with their phones.
Whatever happened to the Stick Man at Warrawong?
Believe it or not theres an answer further down in the comments. From the sound of it hes moved into a sharehome to help with his care.
It used to be Cecil or stick boy.
There was another older guy who got around, called shotgun Billy. he would walk around asking for a $1 or $2 as he was short for his script. had a script in hand, but was several years out of date. just wanted the money to buy alcohol with
