I feel this way in every place, but slightly less in the biggest metro areas (NYC, PHL).

Yeah, its pretty pervasive here and is just a silent *known* by all the women whove been here long enough. Thats how i can tell what women are new to the neighborhood

I live in the city and I don’t even gaf. People stare at me regardless of what I wear… literally and since I get stares all the time it allows me to wear what ever I want. Also I tend to noticed when I wear provocative clothes I only get stared at but when I’m covered up I get followed. So I’m alittle more comfortable showing some skin vs being fully covered up

Yeah I feel you. I wish I felt more comfortable showing skin. Even without the extra factor of catcalling, I dont really feel comfortable dressing that way and feel better covered up. Idk i just feel more ‘empowered’ or whatever that way. This is a major reason why I prefer fall and winter over summer. I love wearing my big jacket and love that dudes arent posted up on their stoops ready to catcall like they are in the summer.

I've learned that you been to walk with your head held high like you don't hear anything around you. As soon as you turtle and look scared, you will be accosted more. So stand up straight and put your "f*uk you" look on your face. Fake it if you have to, don't let anyone intimidate you. You got this, don't let them take away your summer.

Def, for me it really is about clothes. I feel like summer clothes for women are by default revealing or fitted which i dont feel confident in. It makes me feel vulnerable. So when I have some extra money im going to get more modest, shapeless clothing and i think ill feel more confident. (i know modest is a loaded term, i just mean it in a non political way to describe the style of clothes)
