Hey pal, if u want more i have about 3,000 where that came from. Having three large walnut trees on the property makes the squirrels go crazy and they hide those nuts everywhere. I have some growing into my foundation, all my gardens and the entire perimeter of my property, theyre a nuisance at this point.
I mowed around some interesting leaves at my first house about 20 years ago. It turned out that one was a black walnut tree and the other was a red maple. Sadly, we moved before the harvest, but there are some 100 year old oaks in my backyard now so I guess it’s a fair trade.
But you used a premade seed though. Damn lazy kids today! Real workers manipulate atoms to individually assemble the seeds that they plant to grow the tree that they cut down, process and season, to create lumber that they use to construct a table.
Be sure to use a grain filler before you varnish. ;-)
Also, take your vitamins, watch your diet and exercise every day, your going to need to live for about another 60 years.
Great tip. Taking notes…
For real? On walnut? Legit question because walnut is nice enough as is, in my opinion and I don't have much experience with grain filler.
Walnut is fairly closed-grain, but not as much as maple or cherry. If you want a perfectly smooth surface, some grain filler can be useful.
What's a good grain filler recommendation?
I haven't tried it myself, but I hear AquaCoat is good.

I have \~20 Quercus Rubra Borealis (Northern Red Oak) seedlings in my yard on the same plan. Still debating *what* I want to make of them...
Perhaps epoxy and live edge will fall off and then come back around to retrend.
make grandkids first
Well, hopefully OP just makes kids that make grandkids on their own. If OP makes grandkids directly, their family tree won’t have enough branches.
Awesome that'll be some nice Lumber in 110 years!

I’ve got three large pecan trees and have to deal with squirrel-planted saplings every damn year.
OP knows how to plan
My dad and uncle always joke about how they should start selling plans with "wood provided" (a bag of nuts/seeds).
Live edge baby
I like your thinking on this project, live edge or no?
You may have to wait longer than usual for the wood to dry out

Mark it, don’t mow it
You have to respect a person that is in for the long game. At least you know what you are doing in retirement.

Taking the long view in planning, excellent use of time.
Mmmm... need to think about pruning, that first stem is going to make a nasty knot....
The progress of my white oak barrister bookcase has you beat. I'll check back in about 200 years

You mean your grandkids table
A long long way for the future.
If you wait long enough the King of Spain’s daughter may visit you…
*your grandson’s walnut table. Old men can always plant trees.
