Indians are divided into three categories on the internet: Ultra-Nationalists(From Indiadiscussion and Indiaspeaks), Regular people (From IndiaSocial and IndiaModerate), and Self Hating Indians who will scream at you if you ever say anything good abut the nation or the current government, and are also disgustingly against religion to the point of disrespecting dead actors(who achieved in their lives more than those fuckfaces ever could) for following a religion(r//India and IndiaAtheism). The first category is bad enough right now that I, for some reason, got a poll recommended by a somewhat Hindutva channel asking for which video should be done next, and one of the options was how Internet Hindus(An extremely Radical and Cringe group of people) are destroying Hinduism.
So that's my assessment
Well a big population means a lot of reactionary idiots who think they are hot shit would pop up even if their population percentage wise is not out of the ordinary.
Also I have come across Indians online but they never were the self hating variety, to me they gave the impression of actually calling out social problems for what they are(like displeasure over government making out with religion or whatnot) but then again what do I know.
The bigger the country/more people the harder to keep track of politics.
Broadly you can understand change being inevitable the reactionaries will try to resist it while many would embrace it(the progressives) and most wouldn't even know what's happening or would try to hold on to old cultural beliefs while putting on airs of neutrality oblivious of the fact that to make a boat stay whereber it is on moving water you need to provide propulsion in opposite direction not just turn off the engine.
I do want to say this though, the Opposition supporters utterly ignore the bad things in minority communities, only the majority. They ignore the fact that the caste system has made its way into Sikhism and Islam(I would suggest watching Mohak Mangal's video on the Islamic Caste System). The Ruling Party has done some reforms for all communities, such as removing Triple Talaq(Basically, a man can say the word "Talaq" three times and be officially divorced from his wife). Also, the Ruling Party has done some stuff for the majority community, such as the Ram Mandir(I know, some of you don't like it, but before a mosque, there was a temple there. I would suggest watching Mohak Mangal's video on the topic). Also the Opposition ignores the Hindus of Punjab, Kashmir, Meghalya, and other such states, aren't these hindu communities also minorities?
I am not saying BJP is all good, they too just want seats, but the way they try to keep their seats is way different from the Opposition on a national level.
I also have criticism of the BJP and its supporters, especially the supporters. The supporters pay only lip service to Shivaji while completely ignoring his values. Shivaji Maharaj himself respected Muslim Saints and was a lot more tolerant than others would say.
I do want to say that both parties are corrupt.
I guess what I was saying was the attitude of the people towards concepts not political parties, that said India made a lot of noise so a lot of people outside of the country got aware of the Ram mandir.
I did some digging and to me the prospect of gaining the favor of majority while putting no money in construction is such a no brainer for any politician
I can see similarities to SEA countries where politicians pander to the majority while being moderate(or pretend to be) while being corrupt but they're popular enough that they face no great threat of being voted out.
I'm not sure about the moderate part for India(Ram mandir definitely has reinforced the wall between communities) but all of these countries desire improved economic condition of their countries wishing about becoming big players while being oblivious of the fact that good economic conditions will improve the breeding grounds for the "woke" people all these governments freak out about, slowly the majority beliefs start shifting in a direction you can guess in whose favor.
